Fargo, McFadden would likely be a top ten pick at least a 1st round pick. Remember, we don't have a 1st rounder at this moment.

One other point to bring out is that for sure, CHUD knows the guy and his capabilities.. so if we did go hard after him, you can bet the reason is because Chud is recommending it.. Given the good stuff we've seen out of our offense and how much we all seem to think Chud is the reason for most of it, I think it's safe to say that if Chud goes to Savage and says,, GET THIS GUY,,, Savage will do so..

JMO however

Savage could have also been scouting McFadden's back-up, Felix Jones, who has a ridiculous 9.1 YPC Average.

If he comes out I have heard anywhere from mid-first to late second, so who knows.

"I'm not saying he isn't good. I'm saying there is additional risk in dealing with somebody whose only been a backup."

thats why we should use a two back system. Turner as our speed small back...lol
And draft Javorski Lane (2nd day) for our inside the 20 RB and Goal to go guy. As the change of pace back and 4th quarter bruiser. He goes around 300 lbs right now but can easily slim down to 270 and gain some explosion

Well JMHO

ur, that's the first thing I thought off, but doesn't he have to stay in school for one more yr. Isn't the rule THREE yrs. removed from high school?

Supposedly this RB class is loaded, at least that is what I was told when I was on my draft Peterson rant. (good thing I was wrong isn't it? ).

Maybe we get back in the 1st round?

For those of you telling me during last yr's draft that good RB's can be had later in the draft, isn't that also true for NT's and DT's? I seem to remember that being tossed around also.

Fargo, I would LOVE to be able to get McFadden, but I just don't think he will be there when we pick, he will be next yr's Peterson, i.e. the 1st RB off the boards.

Could some of you guys who were giving me hell last during last yrs draft, post a list of the likely RB's that will likely be day one picks this yr?

,,that's right,..and even if we do end up with one I would only hope that it would be used for a D player....We have a very young O that already is 4th in the league in scoring,...I think we can let that ride until we shore up the D...JMHO.

I would *love* to get that guy, actually. It all depends on what sort of speed he has though. At worst, he'd be a load and a half as a FB.

And for you draft junkies, here is a pre-season NCAA top 100 list of players with the number of players in each position. Looking at this list it looks like it's true that the RB class is strong for next years draft. I say we address the D front 7 using FA and see what needs are remaining and use the draft to plug the remaining holes. 21 RB's in the top 100 is pretty deep. IMO. And 'Yes' I realize this is only 1 person's opinion.

source

After reviewing hours and hours of articles and tapes of college football players all across the nation I decided to come up with a preseason list of the top 100 players. There is some room for error in this process with only returning sophomores, juniors and seniors allowed to make the list. Of course some freshman is going to step in and make us take notice (Jimmy Clausen?, Arrelious Benn?, etc.) and somebody else will make this list eventually when they step in and become a star at a glamour position such as USC receiver and Ohio State tailback. Remember, this is only a list of players that I have seen play and have proven it already on the college football landscape. I hope you have fun with this list as much as I did and please feel free to email me if you think I need to make a correction.

Here's my take on what we should do. First off we keep Dorsey, good smart QB that knows Chuds system and probable has more to do with DA's success than the the QB coach.

Resign Holly he's done nothing but impress and will come cheap. Good CB's are hard to find.

Give DA the long term contract. After next season trade DA or Quinn. I think we'll know by then who want to keep.

Jamal must go he's not the back he once was. His speed is not what it used to be.

Keep Chaun Thompson he adds great depth and is a very good special teamer he also knows all of the LB positions.

Here's the FA's I like

Bernard Berrian WR

Albert Haynesworth DT

Terrell Suggs OLB
Tedy Bruschi MLB
Randall Godfrey MLB
Nail Diggs MLB

Randall Gay CB
Marcus Trufant CB probably too much

Bob Sanders S this is a pipe dream

Josh Brown K Phil's gotta go his leg is not strong enough Josh's is.

And last but not least we draft a RB in the 2nd or 3rd Rnd.

http://bestfatathletes.blogspot.com/2006/04/profile-in-fat-javorski-lane-rb-texas.html

Quote:

Profile in Fat: Javorski Lane RB Texas A&M: The up and comer

Jorvorski Lane Texas A&M
FR Lufkin Tx
5'11 274

Javorski Lane is a load at RB aptly nicknamed the Lane Train. A compact 5'11 274 lbs, Lane has the ability to do it all at RB. He can hit the hole, he can make the hole, he can run over linebackers and he has tremendous hands. As a true freshman, Javorski made an impact for the Aggies as a goaline specialist early on. As the season progressed, Lane received more playing time and started 4 games. Javorski broke the 100 yard barrier 3 times in his freshman campaign. His breakout game came against Oklahoma State when he pounded them for 139 yards and 3 TD's. His best game came against the national champions horns when he busted out for 109 yards on 17 carries.
Lane has the potential to be amongst the greatest fat running backs of all time as he is still very young and is very very big.

Blocking - watch Javorski pancake the Linebacker and then De-cleat the second OU defender.

Running

2005 Stats

10 Games 119 attempts 606 yards 5.0 yards/carry 9 TD's

2006 Stats

13 Games 166 attempst 740 yards 4.4 yards/carry 19 TD's

ok, I hate to pull a Paul McGuire... but when I watched that video I really noticed this guys feet, lol

They do remind me of the bus and Jamal, the way they just keep chopping away when surrounded by people. And for a man his size, he has some nifty moves.

Every time I check in on this thread I go off and search for current salary cap figures and I can't find doodley.. too early for that I suppose.

Would be nice having a ballpark figure and knowing where we stood vis a vis the rest of the NFL.

Ok, ok, I see you found doodley. I, on the other hand, found the movie trailer to Beowulf.. looks cool.. plus the digital version of a naked Angelina Jolie (which they don't show unfortunately) is of some interest..

yeah, but instead of a fat QB, he's a fat but fast and nimble RB that can block like all hell.

If nothing else, I think that he would be a superb FB at the next level, and should rock in short yardage situations.

Lane has really slumped this year though. I think last year team's were so stunned by the fact that they had an absolutely mammoth man bowling over them. This year team's have seen that Lane is really not that athletic (in general, not just for his size), and he tires out very easy. I think that he could be an okay goal line and short yards guy, but he needs to spend a year in an NFL weight training program. Skill position players who have high body fat percentages, even at RB, typically weed themselves out of the league fast.

But, he's still fun to watch.

1. You all got to get at the back of the bus...I've been pimping Javorski Lane for over 8 months

2. This season's slump - simply put they are not using him...he destroyed one team and then the next game (nationally televised) they ran him twice! The announcers were miffed, why aren't they using Lane? Lavorski was miffed...and I too was miffed cause I was looking forward to seeing him.

3. Javorski is reportedly at close to 300 lbs. the 270 numbers are from when he was a freshman.

4. I expect him to slim down to a svelt 270 for the combine if he chooses to come out. and run around a 4.65 - 4.7

I want him to be our Power back and change of pace RB to use especially in the Red Zone...he is very hard to stop with only 7 or 8 in the box. And play action passes would be a premium with him in as well as mentioned he has very good hands! He would be a 2nd day pick for us.

JMHPre-08draft Pimp job

btw - there are several sophmores on that list that won't even think about coming out. Tebow among others.

I do agree he hasn't been used as much this year. This thing with Lane vs Goodson is that if A&M is losing early, Lane is worthless. They need Goodson in there, who is at least a viable threat in the passing game. Lane is there to preserve leads and control the clock.

Lane still reminds me of the monstrous FB that FSU had back in the mid 90's...Pooh Bear Williams I think was his name. I cannot remember his first name.

Although I see what you mean, I don't believe Savage would ever pick player a player based on someone else's personal scouting opinion. It's been documented that he has listened to other's and ended up taking the suggested player a few times, but he has his own scouting program. Although someone's suggestion may be enough to put him over the top on a player and he subsequently picks him, I doubt very much that a coach's desire is met simply because he is a respected coach.

Savage is going to do his "due dilligence" and choose based on his own opinon and that of his scouting program.

That's what I think and I can't remember the last time I was wrong about anything.

You are going into way to much detail there Dd!

When someone asked you the time, do you explain how to build a watch

well, if you don't take into account the rotation of the earth as well as the angle of tilt and position of the earth relative to the sun, then just the time doesn't tell you much.... of course having Lat. & Long. would help too because the measurement of the current time is meaningless without considering the location for that measurement.

Thanks Fargo....

of the ones you have listed, I'll be honest, I haven't done alot of research yet, still to much into THIS football season....However...... ,
even though he is a Michigan boy, I DO like Hart. I don't like how he has battled injuries this yr. though, but maybe that means he falls to us in the second rnd.?

The only other one I have seen some of that really impresses me is Lupkin, our of Georgia (just don't tell turk). He seems to have the size and ability that succeeds in the brutal AFC north.

Either way, I think we need to get some help at RB this off-season. Wether it's through FA'gency or the draft, it doesn't matter.

Nice post NC I agree, it isn't IMHO a forgone conclusion that we HAVE GOT TO GET, Turner. If PS decides that we have got to get this guy nobody has the cap space we do, so we could sign him if thats what is decided. As nice as that would be, he will carry a hefty price tag.

Also, I really like Lupkin too, and your spot on with that assesment, I had the same thought.

I thought this thread was about FA though how did it turn to the draft, we got half the winter and spring to talk about the draft..
