Agreed for the most part, talk is cheap, especially coming from any career politican.

At this point in my life I've listened to a lot of great speakers but it doesn'tean much if your actions don't match your words.

Enjoyed the speech!

My super important key takeaways:

- Manchin sitting on the GOP side was late 80s California, skateboard counter-culture edgy! He's Crystal Clear Pepsi.

- AOC is super hot.

- Give Biden a skinny stick mic and all I see is Bob Barker.

- Boebert is one decision away from ending up on the 'Casting Couch'.

- I like when they trot out kids for political points because you can't boo the kiddos.

- Poor Justice Breyer looking awkward when spotlight was on him.

- Madison Cawthorne's IQ needs tested. He just looks dumb.

- I immediately thought of a turtle when I saw McConnell.

- Pelosi must have had lettuce stuck in a tooth crevice, she kept futzing with her mouth.

Most importantly.....piss on Russia!

Yeah, he's going to swing for bringing us together. Ukraine might have just helped him win an election. Republicans will either have to vote for the GOPer-ish bill he puts up, or have egg on their face. He can sell it as border security, and stuff some build back better in it. We all want secure borders, the right lost sight of that. We just don't want people mistreated for being foreign, and we see illegals as people, while GOPers don't. Progressives won't mind “securing the border” in exchange for more liberal immigration reform. And he will get everything the left wants by giving all of you more of what you want than your own party. Bring on 2022.

This is called a pivot to the center. Now we will get moderate legislation that the Rs can save face with and the Ds get a bone. whoop whoop.

Did Joe meet with McConnell this week? This reeks of backdoor dealing.

And he damn sure tried to get a big chunk of credit for the world coming together, even in the US, over Ukraine... I didn't like most of that. How's he going to stand there bragging like he won some big prize for America, while we watch the Ukrainians get killed being the real heros.

Regardless, I don't care who the president is - what party they are - the SOTU is nothing but a big campaign.

Then you have the stand up and clap, sit down, listen to 2 sentences and stand up a clap again, then sit. Then you got pelosi looking at her papers wondering when she's going to have to stand up and clap again. Stand up, clap. Sit. Stand up, clap. Spend spend spend.

Maxine looked like satan during the speech, but she sure smiled after as she followed Biden around.

It changes nothing. I loved how Biden said something along the line of "I know, I've been here 36 years." yeah, Joe, and nothing has changed.

Don't care what party is president - the sotu is a joke. I can't imagine what it looks like to the rest of the world.

I want everybody to read this again.

You know it’s bad when this is the best response Arch can come up with. A whole lot of nothing. Conservatives gonna have to just be like Putin and make up reasons to attack Joe Biden. Lol it’s ok to agree with Biden bro it’s not that deep.

What? The whole speech, as they all have been recently, was nothing but a campaign event. biden hasn't done any of what he campaigned on to begin with. But suddenly, with more spending, everything will be fixed. The sotu is i joke.

Biden gave a rah rah speech to a bunch of clapping seals, and didn't actually address any of the problems this country has. It was a waste of time to watch that.

Did the word inflation even come out of his mouth once?

He was trying to put a positive message out. He doesn't have easy answers that play well on those subjects. Politics 101.

I mean the average guy that heard just what I did would probably be saying, “Hell yeah!”, about most of what he said.

Well ok. It's not going to look good to Americans who have to live with all these problems the country has. It makes him look disconnected from reality to pat himself on the back like everything is great. It would have been better if he addressed the problems. Even at a high level.

rofl You 're either on a roll...

sick or ill...

Maybe even a little willynilly

But I could actually be down with that just to see how long it lasts. Trump would have a huge public meltdown if republicans start legislating under a dem. I don't think the GOPers in congress have the stones to tell Trump to shut up. We'll see.

I actually think McConnell is as big or a bigger problem on that front. He’s been the epitome of what DC talked about in the other thread. No platform. Just prevention.

It was funny watching the VP's jaw drop when the President said at the close of his rant about Ukraine that "we stand by the Iranian people".

That was funny. All in all, he did a good job with all the predictable promises and talking points.

Boebert Booed For Outburst During Biden's Remarks About Sick Veterans, His Late Son
Paige Lavender
Tue, March 1, 2022, 10:57 PM·2 min read

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) was booed by her colleagues for heckling President Joe Biden as he spoke about Afghanistan and Iraq veterans and his late son, Beau Biden, during his State of the Union address.

Biden was speaking about the effects of “burn pits” that “incinerated wastes of war — medical and hazard material, jet fuel, and more,” saying some veterans battle “a cancer that would put them in a flag-draped coffin. I know.”

After that remark, Boebert shouted, “You put them in, 13 of them,” referencing 13 service members who died last year in a bomb attack in Kabul. Democrats booed Boebert after the outburst.

Biden continued without acknowledging Boebert’s comment, mentioning his son, who died of brain cancer in 2015, by name.

“I don’t know for sure if the burn pit that he lived near ... in Iraq, and earlier than that, in Kosovo, was the cause of his brain cancer, or the disease of so many of our troops, but I am committed to finding out everything we can,” he said.

Boebert tweeted about the moment after the speech, claiming she “couldn’t stay silent” when she heard Biden refer to “flag-draped coffins.”

Earlier in the speech, Boebert and her colleague Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) attempted to start a “build the wall” chant as Biden spoke about immigration, but it didn’t take off. The Daily Beast’s Matt Fuller reports someone told them to “sit down.”

Boebert also made a sartorial statement during Tuesday’s event, wearing a shawl featuring the phrase “drill baby drill.”

Outbursts from lawmakers during presidential addresses aren’t particularly common. In 2009, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) made headlines for shouting “You lie!” at President Barack Obama during a health care address in front of a joint session of Congress. The taunt was later used against him by his own constituents at campaign events in 2017.

Truthfully, it's been Putin that has united the world... and then Zelinsky and his people. That said, I am really impressed by the type of leadership Biden has showed throughout the Ukraine situation. Influencing the coalition in an involved but not overbearing manner. IMO, if we've decided that sending troops to Ukraine is not in our best interest, then what we've helped get done is pretty much best-case scenario.

McConnell looked like he was gunna cry.

I thought it was a decent speech, agree the clapping needs to be stopped. Just give the speech damnit, this isn't a pep rally.

Made a big deal about child care, but I'm not sure what his solution is, it's not like they can lower the cost, best they can do is offer assistance for certain income brackets.

I missed a bit of it, but there was something about all the world leaders agreeing to a minimum corporate tax? Anyone know anything about that?

All in all, not a bad speech, and not a attack on one side or the other. But as always, it's all lip service until things actually get done.

You told us you would, now make it happen.

The sizzle wasn't bad, but I don't see any steak yet. Let's see if he can deliver.

I really wish the address was given without the clap track because of its effect on psychological responses regardless of what's being said. I'm so sick of manipulative political theater.

I agree. He said he just released oil from the reserves. The amout was about a 2 day supply. The price of oil went up again today.

He said a lot of things but if past history repeats, there isn't a workable plan. Spending money is one thing. Spending it without a workable plan isn't.

I didn't watch the address - and really haven't seen the content other than what's been posted here.

Question for all - if Biden just went Centrist on everyone, extending an olive branch across the isle and making proposals that certainly go some way to meeting Republican goals. . . . and if Moscow Mitch continues his past history of simply blocking anything a Democratic POTUS wants to do ... who will be at fault?

I know that's simplistic - but my gut says if members of the GOP were applauding Biden, no matter what it was for, he will do everything to stop bipartisan support and compromise. Trump too. No doubt these GOP and Barr who recently stated Trump is unfit to be a leader - “has shown he has neither the temperament nor persuasive powers” of a leader - will be added to an ever growing list of RINOs.

Actually that's a complete lie. But I've learned to expect that from some of you. Once again you make noise but provide no facts. Let me give you an example. All along you've claimed "Democtarts want to defund the police! If they're elected they will defund the police!" You said that because those on the far left promoted that. But that's not what Biden ran on. You've continued to spout such nonsense for a very long time.

The infrastructure bill provided 350 million dollars in police funding. 200 million of it to be released this year alone. An infrastructure bill is something Trump also ran on but never made any serious attempt to deliver on. That's not what you are describing. But you will never stop lying so it's a wonder I even bother.

I think this was always his position and not something he is now saying to the country as mid-term elections approach. Now, I think he walked a fine line about this during the riot season of 2020 (which he could be criticized for) but as the election drew near, and I'm assuming afterwards, he has been pretty consistent in his messaging here.

I already said it once, but I'll say it again… I think Biden and company took a big swing toward center last night to try to unite the country. I expect bills to start coming from both sides on some of this, and they will let the right have some wins, mostly on things we all agree on. Meanwhile, he'll try to ease aspects of his build back better plan into those bills. Child care was a huge part of build back better and is a huge burden on American families. This is a heart and minds campaign speech, and he will undoubtedly be introducing new legislation in the run-up to the election just to put pressure on republicans. By giving GOPer voters some of what they want, he will kill a lot of Biden bashing. Damn near a genius move swinging to center, with the whole world united against Putin and after a very progressive friendly first year of legislation proposals. This puts the Rs in a pickle.

Well, there's always the fact that she "mocked him" before he mentioned his son.

Unless, of course she's telepathic as well as crazy.

Not that the facts ever matter when there's opportunity for a nice virtue-signalling tongue-lashing.

-Does anyone know why Biden is still importing oil from Russia? This is a national security threat.

-Does anyone know when Biden will begin drilling oil on federal lands?

We need answers to the above questions. Continuing to buy oil from Russia is equivalent to continuing to fund the invasion of Ukraine.
