Baker was INJURED last year and played through the pain and yet the fans hate him. The fans want him gone, the front office wants him gone, so now that he is on board with that and wants to be gone too he's a cry baby? Two years ago we won a playoff game for the first time in DECADES and the fans still hate him. I don't blame him for wanting to be out of here. No one wants him to be here. Not the fans, not the front office. So draft a QB at 13 and trade him. I hope he goes on to win a bunch of championships. Meanwhile, we are right back where we were before we drafted him. Without a QB and hoping we can find one. But that was what you guys wanted. Remember? Baker sucks. Remember? So now Baker is probably gone which falls under "Careful what you wish for, you may surely get it". The Browns could mess up a wet dream.
Baker played because he was worried about getting Wally Pipp'ed by Case Keenum. Now he's going to be replaced because he played horribly while insisting he was good to go.
Pittsburgh melting down had as much to do with the playoff win as Baker. They looked shell shocked after that bad snap into the end zone. Ben threw 4 INTs, and their D randomly forgot how to tackle.
Baker's not awful, but he's also probably not worth the money he's asking for on an extension.
I appreciate how Baker helped turn things around. Unfortunately for Baker, Keenum can give comparable play for a fraction of the cost.
You mess with the "Bull," you get the horns. Fiercely Independent.

I bet Pittsburg would take baker and win 4 more SBs. They don't have so many karens in the stands.
Your feelings and opinions do not add up to facts.

I've been a die hard browns fan for more than 50 years, what do you think?
I live around a bunch of them and their 90% Karens ...
John 3:16 Jesus said "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

So you don't actually watch the games I take it? Because if you think there is no drop off from a one armed Baker Mayfield to a healthy Keenum, you are very very sorely mistaken. There are a lot of trash QB's on the "QB Options" list at the moment. Keenum is worse than all of them unless we're going to look into Darnold and Rosen.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Watching Baker last year, I frequently wished that I didn't watch the games.
In 2017 Keenum took a Vikings team, that only had Dalvin Cook for 4 games, 11-3 and won a playoff game. He's not great, but neither is Baker.

I am sure you realize that the team has coaches whose whole job would have been to pull Baker if he didnt pull himself.
Sadly, he was healthy enough to play, and they let him play as they tried to manage his ego. Plus, they had to decide if he was worthy of a big contract. Apparently, they decided he wasn't, and enough was enough.

But Stefanski chose to let the man play. Screw managing ego. Ski's job is to win games and play the people who he feels can win. So either he felt that Baker was good enough to win games... or he chose to trash an entire season trying to manage someone's ego.
I wonder how he took it when the Browns said they wanted an adult at RB while looking at other RBs?
He's thin skinned, I'm sure he was upset. He should consider it an opportunity for self-reflection.
- Constantly lashes out at the media.
- Emphatically stated it was he and he alone that decides if he plays
- Refused to speak with the media after the team won
- Decided he was done playing and sat out the final game. Said he would discuss with his family and agent, never naming the coach or FO.
- Jim Donovan said him not playing that final game did not sit well with the locker room
These are not things mature, franchise QBs do.
Baker is his own worst enemy at times. The "chip on the shoulder" and "a motivated Baker" narrative is ridiculous. He's a Heisman trophy winner and the #1 overall pick in the draft. You're not underdog, Baker, you're supped to be able to lead a team to Super Bowl and come through in the clutch.

So they should've sat him, and then he could have demanded a trade midseason last year. Maybe that would have been better.

When did Baker become an RB? I was commenting on Eric Metcalf's tweet.

Yeah, an injured QB would have demanded a trade because he got sat by the coaches. Number of teams going to sign that QB...none.
Baker was a lame duck. He wasn’t going to get the extension. Would you rather play out the lame duck year or rip the band aid off? I understand both sides.
If the Browns move on from Baker and actually do trade him. I would trade for Jordan Love. Has 3 more years on his rookie deal. He is young well under 27 which fits Andrew Berry's free agent ideal targets. He has 2 years learning under Rogers. I think talent wise he is equal to the top QB's coming out in this years draft. Love is 6'4 and Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis, and Matt Corral are all under 6'3 and it would cost the Browns 1st round picks to get them. Love would cost a 3rd for sure, possibly a 3rd and a 4th, or maybe a 2nd. Love is a mobile QB with a big arm.
Only issue I see is the Browns are built to win right now and although he has been in the league 2 years he has had relatively few snaps. He may not be the best 2022 option but if he develops he could be the franchise QB for the next 10 years.
Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in thy heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
IMO .. The OBJ problem shined a light on Baker. Did he personally decide to not throw to Odel out of spite and fear of being upstaged ? Remember, we have all discussed why the Browns played better without Odel in 2020 and 2019. Could this be a reason behind the "want an adult playing QB" ? I like Baker. I like his fire, his competitiveness, but I have to ask, is he so peevish as to not use Odel as an option simply because he did not want Odel and Odel's personality to upstage "Baker" ?
If the FO did inform Baker's Agent that the team would be looking into QB upgrades, I do not understand his reaction. I mean, I do understand hurt feelings, yes, but it is not as though he was blindsided. The way the Texans are conducting the trade negotiations. are tailor made to prevent privacy. I do not think Watson is an upgrade. I feel Baker was/is the better option, especially considering all the sex assault allegations. I am sure the NFL will come down hard on Watson, they almost have to.
Both sides messed this up, but Baker is, by no means, the innocent of blame.
The Cleveland Browns - WE KNOW QUARTERBACKS ( Look at how many we've had ... )

I don't think the FO messed up anything. Were they supposed to take Baker with them on the interviews?
We have a proactive GM in Berry. He isn't willing to sit around and watch all the other AFC teams improve their teams while we sit around waiting on Baker Mayfield. In our division alone there are 2 QB's who are way better than Baker, and probably better then he will ever become, not to mention other AFC QB's we will face over the next 5-10 years.
If we were satisfied with Baker we wouldn't have made the effort for Watson. If people are honest, any displeasure some people had in exploring the Watson deal wasn't because they thought Baker was a better QB than Watson. It was because they didn't like any potential baggage Watson might carry. For that reason I have no problem we made the effort. If it has Bakers butt puckered, tough. He needs to get over it.
The problem with Baker is because his ego is too fragile. He wants to up and run. That says something to me, a Baker fan who isn't as big a Baker fan today. I'll get over it. I hope he grows up some and gets over it as well.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
You have to assume that teams are very deliberate with the moves they make. I would find it highly unlikely that the Packers would have spent 50M on Rodgers if Love was anywhere close to being a viable option at QB. What shocks me is the fans here that are so desperate to get rid of the best QB the Browns have had in over two decades for a Love, Trubisky, a 37-year old Matt Ryan, or a Jimmy G that has played only one full season in 6-years. It doesn't matter who the Browns get to play QB. The Team, FO, and coaches have been and continue to be so dysfunctional that no QB will ever be good enough to have a career in Cleveland. The fans are even worst. Imagine if you will, you lead your team to a playoff appearance and a win something that hadn't happened in over two decades and less than a year later those same fans want to run you out of town because your production fell off while playing through an injury almost the whole season. Never mind that the WR room was decimated with injuries. Never mind that not only your #1 RB was missing time, but your #2 RB missed time too. Plus, you lost both starting OT's for a considerable amount of time and their backups too. Not to mention questionable play calling by your coach who refused to use the skill sets of the players on the roster.
Even if Watson had selected Cleveland, as soon as he didn't get the team to the playoffs and beyond, he would be deemed as expendable. The Browns don't want a potential Championship QB, they want a "God" and the expectations are absolutely unattainable. Don't believe me, just watch what happens to Mayfield and what kind of posts will be on this exact forum when the new QB loses a game or two. It will be another blood bath just like we have been witnessing the last almost three decades. Except for the 2020 off season, I can't think of a single year since the 90's where the fans, FO, and coaches have committed to a Browns QB. You will never have a QB that lasts 15 to 20 years in Cleveland because you can never have an off year. It would be the same with a Watson. I don't care if he led the Browns to the playoffs 3 straight years, if he missed in the 4th, people would be screaming for his head.
I am confident that after watching what I have watched since the 90's, the Cleveland Browns will never have a franchise QB. They are too focused on the immediate results and patience is not virtue. Baker is just the latest QB to "Come to Cleveland to Die." NEXT...................
