I think Baker has surrounded himself with enablers, including his wife.

His "camp".

His camp is going to run him right out of the NFL.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Who doesn't? SMH. So, you think his wife should crap on him too, just because you don't like him? That's petty af.

Well if he's out of Cleveland that would be a good spot for him. Funny that a team like Seattle would want such a crap QB… rolleyes

"The Browns called Baker a child."

This is the one that kills me. the 'Browns" called Baker a child? No, somebody who works for the Browns did. Anonymous quotes kill me. This could have been anybody, including a player. It was not the Browns organization making a comment, it was one person. It could have been a ball boy for all we know. The media loves to post these quotes, it garners clicks and follows. Twitter and social media have demolished credible journalism. I don't care who the "journalist" was, or his acumen. Look how they tried to hurt Rodgers. Look how MKC put words into Baker's mouth. Look how Grossi and others float their opinions as fact. Watch all the NFL shows on any sports channel, all it is, is Ex players talking trash on current players, and trying to get the "wow" quote. Most are a bunch of arrogant loudmouths.

Even if it was Haslam, Berry, or even Stephanski, so what. They see the player in real life and deal with him daily. In the past some of the things he has said to the press were sort of "childish" for a professional. Maybe it is the reason they were looking elsewhere. Who knows. Bottomline is they are trying to make this team a winner, and progress has been achieved. Baker has a choice. He can come back and prove he is worth it, or he can be butthurt and hope he gets another chance elsewhere.

RIP, Jim

A team like Seattle that has made horrible roster decisions for years and were only buoyed by Russell Wilson?

Wanting him publicly and what they ware willing to give for him are 2 very different things. If they are attempting to just get him on the cheap are they really wanting him? Or trying to get a bargain deal. They want to pony up a 1st for him then I think they really want him.

Any Browns players come out and support Baker through all of this yet?

This is what I believe about the Baker situation:

The two sides, team and players, weren't on good terms when the season ended (as evidenced by Baker's press conference after the second Steelers game).

The team said what all teams say when they have an incumbent starter on the roster. They said Baker was the QB going forward. Just like Pete Carroll did with Russell Wilson and just like Kliff Kingsbury did with Josh Rosen.

The Browns and Baker's representation met at the combine. It was reiterated that he was the starter going forward. According to reports they were also told that if there were an upgrade the team would look into it.

DeShaun Watson's grand jury process was finished without anything significant coming out of it. The Browns pursued Watson. It probably would have been the right thing to do to specifically reach out to Baker and let him know this was going to happen. Learning about something like that on social media is not great.

I believe the Browns knew Baker would react adversely given their frosty relationship. They were prepared for that reaction. They know Baker better than anyone. They ripped the band aid off.

Baker requests a trade. The Browns say no to maintain some percentage of leverage.

Once Watson gets traded a bunch of QB dominoes will fall. Baker will be one of them. He'll end up on the Colts, Seahawks, or Panthers.

I would be happy with the same thing the Colts got for Wentz. Two thirds.

They are also located closer to the Pacific Ocean. Neither is relevant when discussing whether they have made good roster decisions over the past several years.

Was Baker making the right reads and learning from his mistakes? Injuries shouldn't have had an effect on that.

My guess is that this is the issue that concerns the team.

Have we seen growth in the decision-making?

He could/can physically do what they wanted him to do, the problem is that he didn't.

Maybe OBJ wasn't the only one freelancing.

At the combine in February, Berry did tell Mayfield’s agent the Browns might pursue an All-Pro-caliber quarterback, like Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers, according to a source familiar with the conversation. Mayfield’s camp was also aware that short list could eventually include Watson, even with 22 civil cases pending alleging inappropriate behavior and sexual assault during massage sessions.

But last Friday, when a Texas grand jury declined to pursue criminal charges against Watson, the Browns made an aggressive move to land him.

That alone didn’t upset Mayfield, multiple sources said.

What did offend the 26-year-old was learning over social media -- instead of from the Browns directly -- that they were flying to Houston to meet with Watson.

“They didn’t inform Baker ahead of time, just as a courtesy,” one source put it. “It played out so publicly, it was just very insulting. ... It really angered Baker.”

I understand Baker's side of things. It stinks to be told you are not good enough after years of working hard to be good at something. Also, the "adult" comment is hurtful and shouldn't have happened.

wait, so they already informed Baker they were gonna try and pursue another QB, but he got upset when they actually did it?

Yes. Because they didn't specifically tell him that they were flying to meet with Watson.

The more I hear and think about this, this was all planned. The Browns knew Baker was going to whine his way out of town, which they wanted. We have all been around whiners at work, and nobody likes them.

This was a easy way for Baker to exit stage left. Problem solved.

The adult comment came after his selfish message went out. That was very unprofessional.

Honestly, I don't think our FO did anything wrong. They allegedly told Baker they would look at other QB options. They did. That's what our FO is supposed to do, upgrade if and when they can. That's how you become a winning organization. I'll admit the adult comment was uncalled for and shouldn't have been spoken. Baker should have taken the position that okay I'm still the QB of this team and have one more year on my contract to prove, if healthy, I'm a good QB in this league. He would have gotten a lot more respect if he took this stance. He doesn't look good taking the position he has. JMO
