What are the odds on Ammo getting a computer on Black Friday?
Will it be a Vista or Mac?
Will he be in touch with the smoking hot blonde he is pursuing in this whole Thanksgiving/computer fiasco?
Inquiring minds want to know.

There is not enough money in the world to get me to go out on Black Friday. Tried it once, and swore I would never do it again. If I could buy some peace of mind and some sanity... oh wait, I can keep those by staying home.

I do it because it's just sort of tradition. I get a jumpstart on the holiday shopping. I hate waiting till the last minute to buy my gifts because then you don't know what to get and end up just buying anything.
Plus I end up spending the day with my wife. We usually shop a few hours, run over to eat somewhere, usually hit up Applebee's for Happy Hour, then shop a lil more.
I typically don't get up at the butt crack of dawn, but did last year only due to buying that TV that was super cheap. This year, I'll do it if I can save $100 or more on a nice videocamera, which is what we're buying each other this year.

I've owned Acer computers in the past, and wouldn't think twice about buying an Acer laptop. (Aspire is just the name of one line of Acer models) Everything I've experienced (and read) is that they're pretty much tanks.. they'll run for a pretty long time w/ little upkeep. I've had one desktop since 97. It still works darn well! It's not my "daily driver" anymore of course. But the only problem I ever had with it was a power supply that went bad in about 2002. I was back at my Dad's at the time, and my stepbrother, who was using it when it went out, figured it was the "on/off" switch... so he tore it off at the welding points, and unthreaded the wires through the case so he could attach a simple toggle switch he bought at Radio Shack. THAT didn't work, and I don't weld.. but after replacing the power supply, all I had to do was touch the wires together, and the thing took back off like a champ Yeah, I hot-wired my computer.. you got a problem w/ that?! Anyway, the thing will still run weeks at a time w/out needing a reboot. I know since then they've seemed to focus more on the laptop market.. if you've ever seen ads for the "high end" Ferarri branded laptops, those are Acers. They were also big into pushing biometric/thumbprint security on their laptops when it was new. They just bought Gateway a few months back, and are one of the top 3 PC makers in the world. So... w/out getting too off topic for a Black Friday thread... Acers are fine.

I concur. Acers are fine. Besides, there's only a couple actual laptop makers anyway. They just make for all the different brands.

Anyone know stuff about camcorders?
Which is better- Mini DV or Mini DVDs?
I don't know what the hell those DV cassettes are and how you use them. The DVDs can go straight into the player, where those cassettes......do you burn them directly from the camera to DVD or what?

The Mini DV camcorders have to be plugged into the TV in order to watch them. You can plug them into a VCR or DVD recorder and record them onto a tape or DVD if you want. The Mini DV's will have a better picture than the DVDs. I believe the Mini DV's have 540 lines while the DVD's have 480. I've had a Mini DV camcorder for about 5 years and haven't had any problems at all with it and it has a great picture...

Can I plug it into my laptop that has a DVD recorder?
The one I'm looking at buying is a DVD recorder right now. Hitachi for $199. Just seems easier and less of a hassle. The other I was looking at was a JVC miniDV that was $179. Don't want to spend more than around $250. Was thinking about a harddrive camcorder, but they are usually above $300.

As long as your laptop has inputs for the audio and video then you will be able to record the Mini DV's onto DVD's.
Another thing with Mini DV is that they will last longer because they are digital. The DVD's can get scratched.

That's a pretty good deal on that DVD camcorder. They used to be around $1,000 when I worked at HH Gregg.

Yeah, that's the one I'm thinking about getting. I'm just looking for simplicity. Seems easier to burn directly to DVD than to mess with hooking it up to this thing. I think I saw one bad review on it, otherwise it seemed pretty good.
I'm not seeing any A/V inputs on this thing, just some USB ports, a mic jack, headphone jack, and some other jack.

I've never recorded anything from my camcorder to my laptop before, but I think you would use the mic jack for audio and the S-Video jack for video if you have that...

I went out today for the first time ever at 5.00 AM to the Wal Mart in Eastlake,Ohio. My intent was to get a Wii Console for my daughter and lo and behold I got one! They kept all they had at one cashier's station that was right by where they kept their tobacco products and all they had were about 2 dozen Wii's available. I'm very thankful I didn't have to go from store to store to find one.Now all I have to worry about is getting some games and accessories for it which shouldn't be too hard. Would I ever do this again? Only if I absolutely had to...like I did today.

I would go with the mini dvd. The tape transfer is slow to the computer. A hard disc or mini dvd allows you to quickly transfer the movie to your computer. In the long run, DVD's have a longer storage life.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

That's what I ended up going with. Got a Hitachi mini DVD camcorder for $199 at Best Buy. It was between that and Samsung for the same price at Circuit City.
I tend to buy more of my "expensive" stuff at Circuit City because I tend to find slightly better deals and some better products, but reading reviews of the Samsung, TONS of complaints about the bettery lasting anywhere from 15-25 mins. max, which is ridiculous. The camera got great reviews for everything else, but I ain't spending more money for another battery because they can't provide an adequate one with the camera. I usually buy lots of Samsung products so I was disappointed to read that. I own 3 TV's and a DVD player by them and have loved them.

Are Acers bad???
I am typing on a Acer Aspire Laptop right now. There not that bad though my daughter damaged mine so the sound is messed up. But the same would have happened regardless to what kind it was. This is my 2nd Acer I have owned, the first being a desktop was back in 1995 or whatever. There not bad at all for the money but definitely not top of the line. It works very well for what I need it to do and has a large screen and is pretty fast. My battery life exceeds my buddies who has a newer Sony Vaio laptop. I prefer to build all my computers but with a laptop I don't think you can so I got this one on sale from best Buy.

This year black friday turned out not to be that bad for me, beacause I was at my new job at Cheryl's Cookies call center. I guess more people were out shopping and hustling then calling for our products, but hey, I can live with that. I did have a bad end of the day though, it was about 4:50 and I was taking an order and my computer decided to lock up. I did't get the whole thing done until 5:23pm.... But other than that my new job has been awesome, it's the typical sales job. The only difference is when people call in thay at least want the product, so they are usually pretty nice to me, so that's a plus. And most of all, for me, FREE COOKIES! YES!

I bought an Acer laptop as well this summer and it has been fine until my video camera that came built in quit working. Not sure what's up with it, but I haven't tried getting a hold of them to see what to do with it.

I was up at the "Prime Outlets" up in Hagerstown,MD this morning in the COACH store (for the wife) and ran into a couple who was from Columbus,OH. The Guy, husband I guess, noticed the Browns Jersey I was wearing and went to me, "Go Browns". ..I felt so good and finally, WANTED by a fanbase that we started to talk both he and his yougest son...I told him about DawgTalkers, but he had never heard of it. ...There are many more Browns fans in the Baltimore area that I didn't know about and will try to "hook up" with them locally.......
