First, I don't like the idea of attempting to limit what board members might want to discuss in "ANY THREAD" and I won't even attempt to play that "game"...whatever someone wants to say concerning the Browns starting QBs is welcomed.

The title of this thread is broad simply because Browns fans have no idea which QB will line up behind center for the first game of the season...and the circumstances affecting who starts for the first game...

...might be Watson, might be Brissett or any of the QBs listed as Browns backups.

Like last season, our Browns are a team expected to challenge for nothing less than a playoff birth and it could all go down the drain, depending on who is our starting QB.

I'm wondering how much work Brissett will get (I would assume plenty) and how much the offense changes with him under center. I think we will be able to overcome the disparity at QB as long as Watson's suspension is six games or less and starts at the beginning of our season. The only scenario that flushes the season down the drain would be 1-5.

Watson is listed as #1 but there are huge question marks surrounding him.

In some depth charts Mayfield is listed as the Browns #2 with Brissett #3 and Dobbs #4...

Some have even mentioned that the Browns need to hang onto Mayfield is Watson can't go..but there is no way I see that happening, simply because the Browns already burned that bridge. IMO, the Browns might be wise to give Brissett a share of the reps in camp just be prepared for what might be coming.

Brissett has had a couple of good seasons in his 7 seasons and might be a good enough option to take over the starting duties if the NFL suspends Watson.

Browns fans can only hope..

I think Brissett is an improvement over Keenum. I don't believe he is anywhere near a healthy Baker. From what I recall he is more mobile than Baker. The more games he starts the worse shape we will be in I expect.

Fate...here is the problem with 6 game or less expectation...was the NFL or the grand jury in Texas aware of the latest news being reported that a 23rd plaintiff recently came forward with new information...that the owner of another Watson paid the owner of 'A New U Salon Spa' was paid $5k by Watson for something...to supply more massage therapists for Watson or as hush money to keep quite about that owners involvement. It's not clear from what I've read exactly what Watson paid $5k for.

Is this 'new information' that the NFL had not considered...?

Did the NFL even check this information..?

This is where things get silly with multiple threads so I won't reply to that here. That's my prerogative as much as it is others to cry foul when posters voice their displeasure with every thread repeating the same narratives that have nothing to do with football. I know that sounds rude, but I have, in fact, answered most of those same questions in the "other" thread in the tailgate section.

Brissett's 2nd year season and 1st season with Indy (2017), he passed for 3098 yds...13 tds/7 ints...58% comp% in 15 starts.

...that's not bad.

In 2019, Brissett started 15 games for Indy passing for 2942 yds...18 tds/6 ints...60.8 comp%

Again, pretty good performance when he is the starting QB.

Stefanski would be wise to give Brissett a good portion of the reps, all things considered.

I didn't know there was a post in a different part of website.

You know if someone can start a thread "Baker the Person" in Pure Football... I'd think a discussion over the issues and news regarding the likelihood or otherwise of DW being our starter and for how many games etc would be Pure Football. Based on the multiple DW threads that were already kept in Pure Football it seems the Refs or whoever runs this place agreed. I know I read a few posters that made reasonable points on why it would be relevant and germane to Pure Football. I don't really care - but I virtually never go into the tailgate section, but I can change if needed.

Which reminds me of a thought I had regarding these posts .... I see a lot of posts poking other posters about not making "Pure Football" posts. Certainly more come from one direction but they are made relatively often by many posters overall. The questions I have:

- When we have a "Like" feature - is a post that essentially slaps someone on the back and says "Good Post" - Pure Football?
- Is a post that tells people they need to post on topic considered Pure Football?
- If people are having a conversation and something relevant to that discussion gets brought up - and then during the conversation, more in depth discussion takes place about this new facet ... does a new thread need to be started? Or can folks act like adults that can walk and chew gum and continue discussing that topic in the existing thread?

If it were needed the people in charge of this board would have made it so long before now. But you have control freaks in every crowd who wish to dictate to everyone else what to do, where to do it, when to do it and how to do it.

Ignore them.

There was, then there wasn't, now there is again. I don't really care either way, just going with the flow... and in that case, I had already answered those questions in "the other"... not going to copy and paste it here.

Your point is valid, player suspensions, especially in the case of starting QB, is germane to football conversation. Unfortunately (and we're doing the same here, so I'm also guilty) the board get's bogged down in repetitive conversation that has nothing to do with football. It is what it is, this is a different beast than most.

What's even more frustrating is that certain parties on both sides continue with the same arguments and repetitive points of conversation... there were probably ten or more posts about the same story yesterday, many by the same poster, posting links to the same story from different sources, in post after post.

Reading the article below to find out if the new information that surfaced yesterday about Watson paying $5k to the owner of the New U Spa Salon, Dionne Louis...this information should be known by the NFL and the Browns...IF the Texas county prosecutors allowed the NFL and the Browns to have access to that information.

Just what impact the latest info has on Watson's chances of starting for the Browns the entire season..? IMO, it all depends on whether the NFL and the Browns were given access to all the information...

If the NFL investigators are aware of this newest info and discounted it, it might not have much of impact on whether or how long of suspension is handed down. Browns fans can only hope....

Deshaun Watson allegedly paid spa owner $5K for ‘massage services’

By Terry Shropshire | Jun 2, 2022
link

The reason why Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson paid a spa owner $5K has come under increased scrutiny after a 23rd woman filed a civil lawsuit against the NFL player, MSN.com reports.

The owner of the A New U Spa Salon, Dionne Louis, admitted during a deposition that Watson gave her the money, but said that it was because “he was a nice person” who helped her out during the sharp decrease in business during the apex of the pandemic of 2020.

At least three of the 23 women in the lawsuit, however, claim that Louis, whom they worked for, helped provide women for Watson for whom he allegedly sexually assaulted or tried to have sex.

Louis “has been identified by several Plaintiffs as someone who was instrumental in setting up the massages between them and Deshaun Watson at her place of business – A New U Spa – knowing full well that she was sending them into danger and knowing that Deshaun Watson was looking for sexual activity rather than a professional massage,” according to court records filed by attorney Tony Buzbee.
The 23rd woman said she filed her lawsuit after watching two other women talk about their alleged personal encounters with Watson on HBO’s “Real Sports With Bryant Gumble.”

“A New U Salon Spa provided women for Watson,” the woman’s lawsuit claims. “Dionne Louis, the owner of the spa, facilitated massages for Watson and knew Watson was attempting to have sex with them. Plaintiff expressed her concerns about Watson to Ms. Louis. Louis brushed the concerns off. It was later learned that Watson paid Dionne Louis at least five thousand dollars for Louis’ ‘work.’

Louis has been described as being “very proud to have Watson as a client” who “had emphasized to Plaintiff that she needed to keep Watson happy,” the newest lawsuit states, according to MSN.

I may be in the minority here, but I think if our defense is running on all cylinders early in the season, the O-line has no major health issues, and Chubb/Hunt are doing their job (including being included in the short pass game) - I think Brissett will be sufficient for 5 or 6 games. Our schedule doesn't look all that brutal very early on.

I know there are a lot of "ifs" above, but I don't think it will be as catastrophic as some believe with Brissett in there for a few games.

Fate...I have to speak up about this bogus claim that vers tossed out that I posted the same information 3 or 4 times yesterday...

Those who know anything about 'journalism' would recognize that each of the 3 articles I posted yesterday had successive timestamps from different sources and each article was an 'update' with new information included in each article. Put all 3 of those articles together and they give a pretty complete picture of story.

None of the 3 articles I posted was a repeat of the same info...all contained additional information.

So, we stop that BS claim here and now.

PS...Now, back to subject of who will be the Browns starter the first game of the season and beyond. I think Brissett is capable, if needed.

You may be correct. But if so it will bring as much controversy in and of itself as this situation has already brought to date.

MLB just handed out a two year suspension for sexual allegations to Trevor Bauer. If the NFL gives a much shorter suspension it risks making them appear not to care about the sexual abuse of women. Bauer also denies the allegations.

I saw it mentioned elsewhere the scenarios if Watson can't play and how the FO is in a bad spot...

We go with Baker, he does bad. Fans: We stuck with Baker instead of cutting him and actually let him see the field.

We go with Baker, he does good. Fans: We walked away from Baker and overpaid for Watson when Baker would have been what we needed to begin with.

We go with Brissett, he does good. Fans: We are paying tons of money to Baker and Watson when Brissett was all we needed.

We go with Brissett, he does bad. Fans: We are playing Brissett just so we don't have to play Baker and Baker would have played better but the Browns cant afford to let him look good.

I'd wager the best option for our Front Office if Watson doesn't get to play is our starting QB is totally inconsequential and we win anyway.

I wonder if we found out before training camp that our starting qb was going to miss a substantial number of games, would the browns and baker find it a mutually beneficial relationship for baker to qb the team during the suspension. Baker would benefit by being able to showcase his talent and show that he is back from the injury and healthy. The browns would benefit by having superior quarterbacking during the suspension. I don’t think even our haters on here think brissett is a better qb than baker.

Baker’s agent may be able to weigh in on the benefits to baker of being out there playing. This could be a win win outcome for this crummy situation.

Watson will be an improvement at qb but there are times I wish we were spending the off-season discussing how much baker will improve next year and how much our first round pick is going to contribute this season instead of discussing how many women are suing our qb for “sexual misbehavior” and how many games our qb will be suspended.

I see no way that Baker winds up playing for the Browns. The powers that be cannot afford to have him come in and light it up, as he heals.

I would mentally prepare for the possibility Brissett is the Browns QB for 2022 and the Browns actively looking for his replacement next year. I don’t put much stock in the idea of Watson actually playing this year or maybe even next year. All depends on a lot of stuff the team can’t control.

Ytown, I get that but it that seems to me to be an ego driven response. If our leadership, in return for not looking bad would be willing to lose a couple of games we could have won, and get virtually nothing for baker instead of getting a 1st or2nd round pick, they may not be right for the job. Honestly I see it as more of a win for the browns than for baker but it could help both

I don't see how the Browns would ever allow Baker to play another snap for them. Baker burned too many bridges w/his big mouth. You can't let a guy in the locker room who called out his teammates by saying that some don't want to win and care more about their retirement fund. That is a no-no. He then blamed the organization for disrespecting him and also used the excuse of having so many head coaches and offensive coordinators. The ad in the paper was pathetic. The Baker fan boys don't want to admit this, but his immaturity, big mouth, and acting like a victim is hurting his stock around the league. He would have been fine if he had handled the situation like an adult and not acted like a petulant child time and time again. Now, let's see who tells whom how to post. LOL

Speaking of not taking accountability... Baker didn't force the team to make a public statement saying he would be the starting QB next year. Baker didn't force the team to give him a guaranteed 18.8 million this coming season. Only you Baker Haters would try to throw shade in only one direction. Your bias is as obvious as you claim others are.

az...as a Browns fan, I would hate to see the upcoming season ruined over Watson's issues and therefore, I'm looking at Brissett as a possible savior. I agree, that this team, with a little luck in the injury department, they might be a strong enough supporting cast to win enough games to get to the playoffs with Brissett.

This team might not need a great QB to win.

It is hard to come up with a word to describe someone who thinks fans with concerns about trading for a player who has two dozen women accusing him of sexual misconduct are baker butt kissers or baker fan boys. Here is a thought. Maybe those fans are just concerned about bringing in a player with two dozen accusations of sexual misconduct. Maybe they don’t like seeing the browns logo on tv associated with women being interviewed about our qbs inappropriate sexual behavior. The fact that you cannot recognize that those are perfectly reasonable feelings says a lot.

I will address the starting qb question now, even though I knew what mac's intentions were from his very first sentence. LOL

I think that Watson should be our starting qb this entire season because there is no conclusive evidence to suspend him at this point in time. Baseball always gets it wrong and they are trying to make amends for their 1950s mindset. I will say that this is all about money w/the NFL and this could be a "witch hunt" against Watson to stifle outside noise and criticism, but they may want to watch their legal behinds if they unjustly suspend Watson w/out proof that he actually committed crimes. If I were Watson's lawyer, I would use the Flores, Zeke, and Grudin cases as ammunition and attack the NFL hard if they render an unfair decision. I say this because no matter how often a small handful of posters want to convince that Watson is guilty, the fact remains that his guilt has not been proven. Professional athletes have been notorious for the amount of sex and the ways they obtained it for more decades than I can count............going all the way back to Wilt.

If Watson is suspended, I don't think it will be long and JB will start.

That's how I see our starting qb situation.
