They cannot put him on "paid leave"...That is the Exempt list....and they cannot do that without criminal charges, of which there are none. This is a part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The NFL is in a real spot. There is a TON of pressure to make an example of Watson. People cite Baseball giving 2 years to Trevor Bauer as validation for this. The NFL also has to worry about precedence. Not only setting one now, but prior precedence. They are already in hot water over John Gruden and the selective punishment in that case....Imagine the heat if they go nuts on Watson and he sues the NFL for similar reasons(why single him out when there have been several owners with far more evidence against them that haven't even had to pay a fine) Not to mention the lawsuits over minority coaching positions....there seems to be a lot that the NFL is being selective about that isn't in a good light.
So we don't know what the NFL's investigation has concluded. But hypothetically, say it isn't much...well now they are in another pickle...Because the court of public opinion has already convicted Watson....and they are calling for blood. Suppose they found a bit more...well their job still isn't easy as they still have to deal with the fact that no criminal charges have been levied against Watson (and prior precedence comes into play).
And any suspension, especially a lengthy one, can and will interfere with the lawsuits. It automatically allows Hardin ammunition to say that his client cannot get a fair trial. So they have to be careful about a suspension now. This is why things are taking a while to work out....The NFL is in a no win situation and trying to determine the least damaging route...A light suspension now and Watson losing all his cases later makes it look like he gets off easy...A heavy suspension now and Watson wins most if not all his cases later sets up the NFL in an actionable position...
This is why we have a legal system...we do not run things in this country by MOB RULE. And we need to stop contributing to it and let things play out. Talking about the situation is one thing....But that certainly isn't what is happening concerning Watson...and other high profile cases...
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...
What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????
You mean on the 22 cases? Because they haven't had time to investigate the 2 new cases and then there are the 2 more cases that seem to be coming up. Then we have The latest developments that came out in the New York Times article. You are certainly right that the NFL is in a real spot here. It would be impossible for them to claim they thoroughly investigated things that just happened and will be happening.
And you are right. We don't run things by mob rule. But then people generally don't overlook the obvious either. As of right now there's a mob of women that any rational person wouldn't think are all liars, hookers and gold diggers. But they have the right to ignore that or make excuses for it if they so choose.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
Has anyone did background checks on all 66 women? There has been cases that women using the title of Massage therapist was really a cover up for someone actually Getting paid for sex. If it really reached 66 women then you would think By that time DWs rep would have been in the open And not a secret among the " therapist's "
I'm sure watson't attorney has done background checks on all of these women. I'm sure media sites and those doing everything in their power to make excuses for watson have done the same. You would think people would stop trying to make very accuser sound like a hooker too. But they don't.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
And as devils advocate There has been a larger mob (including women) that looked at the evidence and decided there wasn't anything criminal. (Heck the prosecutor in one (or both) of the counties was female as well...)
You would think people would quit assuming "the obvious" and wait for facts, as well.
It isn't right to assume or portray these women as "hookers" and it is not right to assume or portray that Watson is automatically guilty...
This is a very emotionally charged situation...and the best thing we can do is get rid of the emotion when trying to determine what actually happened...Emotion NEVER leads to good decisions...That means listening to and truly considering both sides...and aside from a single comment from Watson (advisable at this point) we have only heard emotionally charged stories from ONE SIDE.
That is a poor and immature way to make a decision. Especially if you don't "need" to make a decision at this time.
If Watson committed these acts...he deserves everything being thrown at him...But if he didn't...and this is "Trumped" up..........well......how will you choose to treat him?
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...
What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????
Hey Deshaun, why did you have so many different massage therapists over that short time? Why are so many women coming after you, if you are innocent? Deshaun, do you think all massage therapists want to have sex with you? Do you have a sex addiction Deshaun?
I'll do a 180 if you clear your name, but if you don't, you should walk away. He said he will be here for the rest of his career. If he doesn't clear his name, I hope that will be a damn short career. I wish I could believe this kid. All reports were that he was a stand-up guy prior to this coming out. But the last few weeks have me thinking he's guilty as hell.
Reacting to Deshaun Watson press conference, Tony Buzbee hints that “many” could still file lawsuits
Posted by Mike Florio on June 14, 2022, 4:25 PM EDT link
On Tuesday, Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson conducted his first press conference since March 25. Thereafter, attorney Tony Buzbee issued his latest press release.
Near the bottom of the one-paragraph commentary resides an ominous remark regarding the possibility of additional lawsuits being filed against Watson. Currently, 24 are pending and two more are expected.
“We were sent the video of the Watson press conference,” Buzbee said, via Jake Trotter of ESPN.com. “We appreciate the Cleveland market and its fervent support with regard to its new quarterback, Deshaun Watson. But: given the volume of the credible cases filed, the lead detective’s sworn testimony, the undisputed facts, and the heartbreak, pain, and havoc Watson has caused, we think it would be appropriate to see Deshaun Watson express some regret or remorse in the way he treated these women, some of which have sued and many others haven’t, yet. Attending some sort of counseling would be at least some step forward. We have nothing else to say on the subject.”
How many is “many”? That won’t be known until the final statute of limitations passes on the last massage Watson received. That’s two years from the date on which the most person who gave Watson the most recent massage could claim that he crossed the line. Presumably, this means lawsuits could be filed up until the two-year anniversary of the filing of the first lawsuit — assuming that upon learning of the first lawsuit alleging sexual misconduct during massage therapy sessions that Watson stopped arranging private massages via social media.
Thus, the window will be open until the middle of March 2023. Only then will we know how many is “many,” and how many more than 26 women will sue Watson for allegedly engaging in inappropriate conduct during a massage session.
I have never done this before, but is there a way to contact Florio's employers to express my unhappiness w/his witch hunt? Everything he writes is an attack on Watson. The creep actually trashed Watson for taking the offense to the Bahamas.
Not a fan of Florio either....never have been....In this case tho...it doesn't sound like his usual trashing and just a statement of happenings....no editorial...even if he does steer it to focus on the Negatives and not anything Deshaun said in his press conference....
I do however, find it strange that Watson speaks for the first time in MONTHS, and he reports on what Buzbee says.

I don't know about Florio. But, you yourself, everything you write is an attack on Mayfield............so, maybe keep that in mind.
You and the other Baker fans sure do that a lot. And Florio is most certainly spouting emotional tripe in almost all of his daily articles on this topic. Good for him, he is making himself more money and gaining more notoriety at the expense of another human being.
I was just reading this thread and you have made two posts about me and haven't addressed a single football point. When I talk about Mayfield, that is talking about football. Guys like you talk about me, which is not about football. So take a freaking hike!

I don't know any of the talking heads that well - certainly don't normally know their names. Peter King I liked, Grossi and MKC (more press than talking head) Cowherd, Rich Eissen. I recognise Florio now - not sure I've ever given what he's said in the past a lot of thought one way or the other ... does he have history with Cleveland? Does he have (possible) a bit of an agenda? Like you I didn't find that article to be overtly trashing, but I do see a lot of posts by Mac with Florio commenting.
Funny - I like Rich Eisen a good bit. He doesn't seem to pander or try to create contrived controversy - seems to shoot straight. He's definitely got grave reservations about DW and all his press conferences. But anything he has said has been common sensical and not overboard.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Quit bashing Baker in every post. That would be a start. Next up, realize your saviour DW ain't playing this year.
But go ahead, bash Baker. It must make you feel good.
That is three in a row. And who the hell are you to tell me what to do? Go ahead, LWA and have the final say, but I'm done talking to you tonight. What's crazy is that as much as you dislike Pit, you are like brothers from another mother. Always trying to dictate what others say and trashing them for alternative opinions. I'll talk about Baker if I want. You can't stop me.
Pit and I are not brothers from another mother. I don't even attempt to, as you do, dictate what other's say. I simply point out your 2 facedness. Don't like it? Go to the bathroom, look in the mirror, and see where the problem lies.

Thanks for a lengthy and detailed response. Lots of good point to take onboard.
The NFL is facing the testimonies of 26 women. If it was 1 women and her word only then they could chose whatever suspension they want but against 26 women there maneuver space to dismiss these women’s bad experience is limited to nearly nothing. One NFL player has in the space of less then two years made at least 26 women so uncomfortable that they decided to take him to civil court. That’s a hard fact to walk around.
good lord did we trade for Pill...i mean Bill Cosby?
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
yea man this situation is nuts. i dont even know what true and whats not anymore. all i know is as we already know: dude is at minimum a certified creep. he's getting suspended even if he managed to spin out of this.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Cosby drugged them before betraying their trust. Sounds like Watson just whips it out with high expectations, and puts it in their faces. Isn't that how they are all describing it?
yea, im assuming this dude has some sort of massage therapist fetish, and some sort of sex addiction. the only saving grace is nobody is accusing him of rape, but saying that makes me roll my eyes at my damn self. such a low, low bar.

I feel so bad for DW, I don’t know one athlete that has been accused of being a sexual predator by a single masseuse and 26 women accuse him, how unlucky.
Definitely lots of reasonable explanations for seeing 66 all young women masseuses in 17 months.
And his press conference today, what an amazing perry mason defense. Im convinced he is totally innocent. I am so glad there are fair minded guys like Pete and vers that maintain believe in DW despite all the evidence. You guys are the true browns fans, your fanhood literally has no limits, congrats!
Kimberly Martin was just on Get Up. She has been at the Browns facility the last couple of days. She just reported that the Browns are still all in w/Watson and they believe they did their due diligence and that will become evident once all the facts come out. She also said that they do expect him to be suspended but they don't have any idea regarding the number of games.
Here is what I see with the issue. Two cases came out last week. It's reported that at least two more cases are coming. Then there's the New York times article. That's just what we know about as of today. So how does the NFL think they can claim they have the time to "thoroughly investigate" these latest allegations plus the flood of information that keeps pouring in by July? I see it much the same way you do. The paid leave idea seems quite plausible. I think it's also important to remember that all of these cases have been postponed and aren't to be tried until next off season. If the NFL is truly interested in getting all of the facts, it seems logical they would wait for any final decisions based on those cases. Each possibly on an individual basis.
But But but, the Browns have said they did their due diligence and found nothing to be worried about? How do they explain that?

So, you believe that Berry and Depo who both attended Harvard and Stefanski who attended Penn were too ignorant to do a thorough investigation. Three Ivy League educated men were clueless about the possible repercussions of not doing their due diligence?

Brilliant.
Brilliant people make mistakes. Alumni of Ivy League colleges make mistakes. Attending one of these institutions does not make someone infallible.

I think this was good watching. I think they said a TON of stuff that the average NFL fan or average Browns fan is thinking. They really did a good job of highlighting just how messy this is.
They got a few things not 100% right - the Grand Jury didn't look at "Everything", they only interviewed 1 women. I don't agree that DW was nonchalant in the interview yesterday, I thought he's been coached well and did a great job of setting the discussion and how seriously he takes the allegations. I didn't get a take away from the meeting yesterday that DW is a narcist. But that seems like it might be an in show joke or something ... I think he also did a great job of highlighting just how huge this story is for the NFL. Also highlighted some of the inconsistencies and changes to what DW has said.
Def worth watching for 10 minutes.

Yes 100%.
Education and intelligence means nothing when common sense flies out of the window. I fully expect at least one of them lose their job because of this gigantic fiasco. $230m fully guaranteed with 22 (soon 26 and counting) civil law suits involved. Only idiots do such deals.

Or desperate people. And the question in reverse - if you think Depo and Berry did their due diligence, then you believe all these new allegations were expected? You believe DW must be 100% innocent?
Jumping to an absolute hurts either way you frame that particular angle.
