This is just to save space instead of having lots of threads, I will use this to keep everyone updated on the Villa. Today we beat Everton away 1-0. Sadly this was the first away game I have missed since the start of the season and in typical fashion, I missed a great performance, a good goal which was Chris Sutton's first for the club, and Villa recording their first league win away this season. The side was patched up due to injury problems, yet we were fantastic, with Isaiah Osbourne making only his third league start for us this season after being promoted from the youth team and playing very well in the circumstances. This moved us up to third in the league with only Chelsea and Man United above us.

a good goal which was Chris Sutton's first for the club

Was hoping that Norwich would bag him but we got Dion Dublin instead. Knocking on a bit but big Dion is doing well.
Robbie Earnshaw came back to haunt the Baggies today and we sneaked a 1-0 win at the Hawthorns.
Cardiff won, Ipswich lost.
Wales beat the Pacific Islanders, England lost to Argentina in the rugby. All is well in the World. Go Browns!!

Villa is 3rd place in the overall standings right now! If the season ended today, they would qualify for the European Cup matches.

So, is the Browns, or football in general, catching on in your area or are you just an all around sprots hooligan?

Is it an insult to be called a hooligan?

There are a few people who are catching on but not a lot. In England, it is an insult to be called a hooligan as that means someone who belong in a specific gang looking to fight and cause trouble and I am certainly not one of those. Actually, I brought Madden NFL 07 on Friday to try and get a better understanding of the sport and I must say I am really enjoying it.

Just a question for Villa fans. I got a Villa jersey from a friend way back in the day and still have it (though have had no reason to wear it until now). Villa had guy named Dean something that played for him in the 90's. What's his last name? If I remember correctly, he was pretty good.

Top Welsh striker.

Later in his career he moved to a Turkish club and prior to his first game they slaughtered a sheep or a goat and smeared the blood all over his boots for luck. Shocked him somewhat.

I'm not too sure what happened to him in the end but I do know that when Graeme Souness was sacked at Newcastle he was part of the coaching staff. Although I think he went shortly after GS left.

There is a match report here from the Wigan game. THIS IS NOT MY WORK IT IS FROM BBC SPORT.

Quote
Wigan 0-0 Aston Villa
By Charlie Henderson

Wigan recorded a first ever Premiership goalless draw despite dominating the action against a limited Aston Villa.

Lee McCulloch saw an early header well parried by Villa goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen and Paul Scharner went close on a couple of occasions for the hosts.

Early in the second half Villa's Isaiah Osbourne headed an Emmerson Boyce cross on to his own upright as Wigan pressed.

For Villa, Peter Whittingham hit the same post with a first-half effort and Gareth Barry flashed a shot over.

The result also halted Wigan's run of four successive wins, but their failure to score was not for the want of trying.

Within a minute of the start Sorensen was called on to make a reaction save as McCulloch met Henri Camara's right-wing cross with a firm header.

And in a vibrant opening, midfielder Scharner soon had his first sight of goal, dragging a rifled, low shot from the edge of the area narrowly wide of the target.

McCulloch headed over from Gary Teale's cross and the Scot's strike partner Camara proved a nuisance down the middle.

But while the nimble-footed Senegalese striker's twisting and turning tormented Villa and created good openings, he had the poise and touch of a pinball paddle in front of goal, skewing two shots well wide.

The best effort that Villa could muster in the first-half came when Whittingham hit a bobbling shot from outside the box on to the woodwork.

That same post came to Villa's rescue after the break as Wigan again flew out of the blocks.

Osbourne's ill-advised and misdirected defensive header from Boyce's searching cross diverted the ball on to the frame of his own goal with Sorensen flat-footed.

Villa cleared the rebound, but before long the Danish stopper was called on to deny Scharner.

The Austrian ghosted into the box to get on the end of Josip Skoko's threaded through ball, but after a good first touch his second was smothered by Sorensen.

As in the first-half, despite bossing possession, Wigan struggled to carve more clear-cut openings.

Villa, missing Stilian Petrov's prompting presence in midfield, played on the break but Barry's rising shot, after a deft step-over from Chris Sutton, was their only real effort on goal before a late rally.

On this occasion it was the turn of Wigan's rearguard to stand firm at two successive corners and secure that first goalless draw in their 50th top-flight outing.

The point, Villa's fourth away from home, means Martin O'Neill's obdurate side missed the chance to go third and stay fifth in the table.

# Wigan manager Paul Jewell
"We were terrific. In the first half that's as well as we have played in the Premiership.

"All that was missing for the icing on the cake was a goal or goals. We missed some good chances but that happens.

"We were great and for a 0-0 it was a good game. At least we are creating chances and do look like we can score goals, although not on this occasion."

# Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill
"We knew it would not be easy coming here and so it proved.

"They were miles better than us in the first half, but after half-time we came into it more and looked more dangerous.

"But it would have been harsh on Wigan if we had sneaked the three points, so overall I think we have done well."

Wigan: Kirkland, Boyce, De Zeeuw, Jackson, Wright, Teale (Cotterill 76), Skoko (Landzaat 78), Scharner, Kilbane, Camara, McCulloch.
Subs Not Used: Filan, Johansson, Webster.

Booked: Jackson.

We played at home to Middlesbrough today and came away with a 1-1 draw. We played well at times and poorly at times but we lacked a cutting edge which prevented us from winning today. 'Boro took the lead with a goal from Malcom Christie, however it should not have stood as it was at least a yard offside. We then equalised with a penalty from Gareth Barry which annoyed 'Boro. I really can't wait for the January transfer window where we can bring some fresh legs in.

Villa really needs some top strikers. Baros and Angel aren't cutting it, and Gabby is pretty much getting double covered because of it.

I've just got back from the Portsmouth away game. We drew 2-2 in the end but our squad was/is hugely depleted because of our injury problems. Villa went a goal up from a Gareth Barry penalty before Pompey equalized and then went a goal up. However Villa got the point they deserved when substitute Juan Pablo Angel scored a great goal.

Just thought I'd give you all an update as I haven't been on here for a while. Our recent results have not been as good as the start of the season but still far better than we could have expected under the previous manager. These have been our results in recent games:
25/11/06 Villa 1-1 Middlebrough
29/11/06 Villa 1-3 Man City
2/12/06 Portsmouth 2-2 Villa
11/12/06 Sheffield Utd 2-2 Villa
16/12/06 Villa 0-1 Bolton
The Bolton game was last night and we should have won the game as we outclassed them in the scond half. But the referee made some very poor decisions and they ended up getting a penalty which Gary Speed converted. This is the Premiership table as of yesterday night:
1 Man Utd
2 Chelsea
3 Liverpool
4 Arsenal
5 Bolton
6 Portsmouth
7 Reading
[color:"purple"]8 Aston Villa[/color]
9 Tottenham
10 Everton
11 Wigan
12 Newcastle
13 Man City
14 Sheff Utd
15 Fulham
16 Blackburn
17 Middlesbrough
18 West Ham
19 Charlton
20 Watford
(I had to delete the stats because of a problem with how they appeared in this post.)
Unfortunately though we are now entering a period of fixtures which should see us slip to a more realistic place in the table based on the capabilities of the current squad. These are:
Saturday, 23 December 2006
Barclays Premiership
Aston Villa v Man Utd, 15:00

Tuesday, 26 December 2006
Barclays Premiership
Tottenham v Aston Villa, 13:00

Saturday, 30 December 2006
Barclays Premiership
Charlton v Aston Villa, 15:00

Tuesday, 02 January 2007
Barclays Premiership
Aston Villa v Chelsea, 20:00

Sunday, 07 January 2007
FA Cup
Man Utd v Aston Villa, 14:00

Saturday, 13 January 2007
Barclays Premiership
Man Utd v Aston Villa, 15:00
As I've said before, we are stuck with this squad until January when the transfer window opens and then MON will be able to build the squad he wants. Lastly, beacuse of the injuries to goalkeepers Thomas Sorensen and Stuart Taylor on Friday Villa signed Hungarian Goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly on an emergancy 1-month loan from Crystal Palace.
