I don't think, in the end, that injunctions will save abortion in TX, especially permissive abortions. The fact that the SCOTUS opinion hasn't become full force of law yet is likely the only thing keeping the injunction on life support. Also if the AG of TX has decided it is illegal without a standing statue that is just wrong. He doesn't get to make up laws to enforce, that is what the TX assembly does. If I recall they meet every two years, and they met in 2021. That could make things interesting to watch.

It most likely won't stop states from inflicting laws against women eventually. But each state has its own constitution with its own wording. I have no idea of how legitimate any of these lawsuits will or won't be because I'm certainly not going to read the constitutions of these states. But there will certainly be legal battles surrounding that issue.

Convicted rapist gets joint custody of victim’s child

A convicted sex offender who raped a Michigan woman when she was only 12 years old has now been granted joint custody of his victim’s 8-year-old son, according to a report.

Christopher Mirasolo, 27, was awarded joint legal custody — and shared parenting time — with his now-21-year-old victim after DNA testing established the child’s paternity late last month, the Detroit News reported.

The victim’s attorney, Rebecca Kiessling, is seeking protection for both the woman and her child under the federal Rape Survivor Child Custody Act, she told the outlet.

“This is insane,” Kiessling said. “Nothing has been right about this since it was originally investigated. He was never properly charged and should still be sitting behind bars somewhere, but the system is victimizing my client, who was a child herself when this all happened.”

Kiessling has filed objections with Sanilac County Circuit Judge Gregory S. Ross, who made the order, according to the report.

She claimed Ross had disclosed the victim’s address to Mirasolo and ordered the rapist’s name to be added to the boy’s birth certificate — without the victim’s consent or a hearing, according to the report.

The Detroit News was unable to reach Ross for comment.

Kiessling told the outlet that the victim and her sister slipped out late one night in September 2008 to meet a boy when the boy’s older friend, Mirasolo, asked them if they’d like to go for a ride.

Mirasolo ended up holding them captive for two days in a vacant house before he released the older sister in a park — and allegedly threatened to kill both girls if they ratted him out. He then raped the younger girl, according to the report.

He was arrested a month later when the pre-teen became pregnant. He was sentenced to one year in county jail but only ended up serving six-and-a-half months so he could care for his sick mother, Kiessling said.

“[My client] and her family [were] told first-time sex offenders weren’t sent to prison because people come out worse after they go there,” Kiessling told the Detroit News.

Mirasolo was arrested for a second sex assault on a teenage victim two years later — for which he only served four years in prison, according to the report.

It wasn’t clear how much time Mirasolo would spend with the victim’s son, Barbara Yockey, his attorney, told the Detroit News.

“Chris was notified of the paternity matter and an order of filiation was issued last month by the court saying he had joint legal custody and reasonable visitation privileges,” she said. “He never initiated this. It was something routinely done by the prosecutor’s office when a party makes application for state assistance.”

Anyone who thinks our current system for foster care and adoption does anything significant to mitigate issues related to unwanted children is either not interested in having meaningful debate, or is so misinformed on the topic that they're unable.

Which is the perfect way to point out that the problem will only get significantly worse and so far those who propose forced birth have been unwilling to do anything to correct the problem. Further evidence that are actually only pro birth and not pro life. If they were actually pro life they would have reformed the foster care system long ago.

The constitution doesn't say you get your way, it doesn't say you get to riot and burn because your little feelings are hurt, it literally is there to limit the powers of the government, not to make it all powerful over our lives.

There was nothing "extreme" about the decisions handed down this past week, sorry you don't like adhering to the actual words in the document, but that is how it works. FDR's threatened expansion of the court was quite adverse to the idea of checks and balances. The judiciary is there to check the power of legislative and executive branches, and to ensure the constitution is followed. Go read the document. It isn't a long read.

The supreme court kicks the laws on abortion back to the legislative branch. Now it's up the elected officials of the legislative branch to make the laws regarding abortion. Because it was settled law and precedent that the illegitimate Trump-stacked Extreme Court threw out because your side NEVER accepted the LOSS. A small percentage of the country (~30%) is trying to impose their beliefs on the rest (~70%) by any means necessary including violence, coups, insurrections, and pure thuggery. Can YOU explain what part of that is American or belongs in our democracy? Gorsuch and Barrett's seats were stolen Dem appointments. The legitimate court would currently be a 5-4 liberal court if not for McConnell's lying and cheating. At best for your side, it would be a 5-4 split GOPer majority with a moderate leading the pack. But after cheating to steal power, y'all think the rest of us, the overwhelming majority of Americans are supposed to just roll over and let you screw us anyway you want. That's fascist to even think that way, let alone operate that way in a democracy. and it's never to late to do so. We really need to overhaul the system when it comes to adoption. The laws need to eliminate some of the red tape, and make adoption easier and a lot cheaper. As for me I would be willing to pay more in taxes if that's what it takes.
