Seriously... who shoots someone in the groin!! crazy..

Well the first shot missed completely... who knows if the groin shot was intentional or just the result of a poor shot.

I feel bad for the kid, his family, and his team... If the kid really had turned his life around and if this really was the result of some past mistake, then I feel especially bad...

This is truly saddening news. Watching the [profanity deleted] game last night, I hear he had shown some signs of life. I wake up this morning and he is dead. I can't imagine how I would feel if someone on this team was killed in such a manner. It does seem that something else is going on here and if the real Miami Dade is like the one on CSI:Miami then they will figure it out. It does sound like a hit, but maybe his intention wasn't to kill, but when Sean had a machete he felt threatened and pulled the trigger. We won't know what truly happened until the investigation is complete. I wish he would have had a gun to kill this .

Also... what kind of affect may this have on Winslow in preparation for Sunday's game? If I remember right they played together for at least 1 season.

Other than Dorsey, do we have any other Miami alum here?

I don't understand why there seems to be a fight on this board on many threads where people die or are hurt. I swear, some of you would rather be right than anything in the world.

Not something you'd like to wake up to, I was hoping he'd pull through... Damn. Prayers to his family.

I don't understand either Jules. A 24-year old is dead, what else matters? RIP Sean, I hope you're in a better place.

I remember seeing him at UM, what a ballplayer. Dorsey and Winslow were teammates of his, I wonder if they'll say anything about him...

J/C Jules.

This is truly a tragic event. Whatever the circumstance, I sure hope they find the killer and justice is served. Prayers to the Taylor family and friends.

I had hoped that he would pull through. It's truly a sad day when something like this happens.

RIP Sean Taylor!

Being a Redskins fan myself, Sean Taylor wasn't your typical player. This man was a pure game changer, Ronnie Lott in a different body. But not only was he an amazing player, but he was starting to mature, very similar to Winslow.

Now it looks like some idiot with a gun ended a young man's life for no reason.

RIP Sean Taylor

....

On a side note, I wore my Miami hoodie today, I'm very sad about this... Outside of Cleveland he was my favorite defensive player by far, I loved the way he hit and impacted games. I was looking forward to him and Landry for years to come...

RIP

What a tragedy for his family and friends.

I am treminded of when Don Rogers died. In the end .... for any faults ..... a young man was dead who "shouldn't be".

Terrible news. Things were sounding a little more positive last night. I'm tired of hearing about all this senseless violence in this country. May he rest in peace.

As others said, I can't believe I woke up to this news today. After hearing that he was squeezing the nurses hand, I really thought he was going to pull through. RIP Sean

It's extremely sad, but we shouldn't necessarily be surprised, I guess. You get that femoral artery severed, like one of the articles said, you're going to bleed to death in about 4 minutes. And, if he was shot up by the groin, that's really tough to get a makeshift tourniquet on there to slow the blood flow to that area. You'd have to apply an absolute ton of pressure, and that's just really hard to do.

I was really hoping he'd be one of the lucky ones who'd survive something like this. I was hoping the worst thing to happen would be his NFL days were over. Such a tragic thing. I certainly hope the NFL observes a moment of silence or something similar at this weekend's games.

Take this for what it is, Sirius NFL is reporting that allegedly his phone line was cut.

Sad to see someone turning the corner, only to have something like this happen.

well, living here in FL and hearing about the news and that cops were treating it as a home invasion it just seemed to me that when his condition was mentioned in the news they weren't being forthright as to how bad it was other than saying he was in critical condition.

This is a very sad day for his family and my thoughts and prayers go out to them. Such a young man to leave this world so soon.

First and foremost my thoughts and prayers are with Sean Taylor and his family.

Now as for what happened: Could it have been a tragic break-in? Yes. Could he have known the person or there was more to it than a break-in? Yes. As mentioned earlier could it have been a hit? I highly doubt it. Of all the places to be shot, the femoral artery (aka the upper/inner part of the leg) is one of the deadliest behind the heart and head.

Until more information is given I will not pass judgement except that the person who did this should be caught, tried, convicted, and either thrown in jail for life or executed. I will leave it to the police to uncover the exact events that happened.

Amen. I hate to read people ripping apart a kid when he is still fighting for his life, and then right after he dies. There is a time and place for these type of discussions, and IMO this isn't the right time or place.

I have a big problem with things being dismissed, minimized or explained away simply because of the 'thug' label.

And, honestly, I don't think it will be a problem in this thread, because no one will touch that at this juncture...but what bothers me is what I consider to be a very troubling double-standard.

I have very, very little knowledge about Taylor's 2005 crimes. I don't pretend to know much. But from what I've read, he brandished a firearm in a dispute over stolen property...utter stupidity and a big mistake...and it earned him the 'thug' label...however, I can't count how many times on this board (and in my real life) people have bragged about their guns, and expressed how they would dispose of those who broke into their homes...there is almost a sense of this repressed violence...like, 'if I could stay inbounds of the law, I'd take pleasure in blowing someone away'...I'm not here to make judgements or criticize any line of thinking...I'm just saying that anytime a black athlete or musician or entertainer gets into trouble on anything gun related, he's a 'thug'...however, when a white person carries out a similar crime...you never hear the word 'thug'. Is there simply another adjective for the white version ('hillybilly', 'redneck')? Or is there a bias? Or an inability to see our own faults and tendencies? I do not know...

As for Taylor...perhaps he was a victim, or perhaps the mistakes of his past came back to haunt him one last time...doesn't really matter, as a 24-year old died.

Sorry, but I don't think of a person's race at all when I think of a thug. It's not what race they are, it's what they do. I wonder why you think of a particular race with that word.

I don't remember specific examples from either race because obviously I don't focus on race as much as some of you do. I just know I have heard it across the board. I think some of you are way too sensitive to this issue and just hear what you want to hear.

Now they're saying Taylor was gay? Sorry, I couldn't resist. It's homicide, not homocide.

In any event, what were they calling it before? An accident?
