So please let us know what fact you have that refutes that?? Also, please provide any facts that state those former people or enemies of his former friends did the killing??
That's the fun part about facts.............in order to prove something, you have to have them. While people like Navy can't prove it was a hit or a revenge killing, people like you can't prove that it wasn't. People like Rolle can't know what Taylor was doing 24 hours a day, while people like Gibbs and Steinbrenner Jr. can't either. Remember, when they drafted him, Jr. and company all said that Taylor was, and I quote "The most researched draft pick in the history of the NFL." They apparently weren't able to go deep enough because he turned out to be a thug, and that past, the one that they researched to death, didn't turn up the fact.........and it is a fact........that he was far-deeper into the thug-lifestyle than they'd thought. That lifestyle may have well come back to kill him now.
So we're back to my point. Just because someone elses opinion is .....dumb was the word I think you used.......based on circumstantial evidence, it's then very curious that your opinion is fact based on the same circumstantial evidence.
Navy may or may not be an arse, and I've pretty-much been turned off by what he's written, but his opinion is based in no more or no less fact than yours is.
That's the only fact we know for sure.
I'll go back and restate my opinion, which is that I wonder how many more people will have to die before people decide to bring themselves out of that lifestyle. I don't hold much faith that they really ever will.

Now this I agree with.
I just don't understand what people are thinking about living that kind of lifestyle, they are shown over and over and over again, no good comes out of that lifestyle, yet the senseless deaths continue and look to continue for the foreseeable future.

But the difference is that people like me say, all we have know for sure is that ST was murdered in his house, by who,we do not know, and I will not start generalizing about who it was or why it was, because the over-riding fact right now is that we do not know!

Rolle, Gibbs and Snyder can't know what he does 24 hours a day, your right. But All those people you just mentioned ALL stated that Taylor had changed his ways. Can your past come back to haunt you, yes but again right now, we do not know that so we cannot say with fact it happened.

Everyone has a opinion like certain body parts that crap comes out of! And people like Navy are basing there opinion not even on circumstantial evidence, just plain rumor, generalizaions and innuendos. Tell me, other than the kid getting into trouble in the past, and the same people stating the kid was turning his life around for over 18 + months, and that someone entered his house to kill him, what other facts are there??

The bold above is no more of a fact than this is:
Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antrel Rolle told The Associated Press that Taylor was "pretty much scared every day of his life" because former friends wanted to do Taylor harm.
"They've been targeting him for three years now," Rolle told The AP.
Taylor died early Tuesday, a day after he was shot during a home invasion that some have speculated was a burglary attempt. Video Watch how police are looking for Taylor's killer ยป
"It absolutely was not a burglary," Rolle told The AP.
Rolle, who played sandlot football with Taylor and was later his teammate at the University of Miami, said old acquaintances didn't like the fact that Taylor was focusing his life on his young daughter and trying to break with his past.
"There were many people targeting Sean, a lot of jealousy, a lot of angry people," AP quoted Rolle as saying. "Sean, he had a large group of friends, and he no longer hung out with those friends, so you never know where this came from."

Well maybe if you read your own article: Quote:

Just as I stated before, Sean apparently was not hanging around those people. And just like YOUR article states"You never know where this came from"!
So again, you, nor people like you, nor J.Whitlock and his generalizations know what happened or how it happened. SO maybe until all the facts are in, you can just say, RIP!!!

I am... and that would be the saddest outcome of this whole saga.. if he had in fact turned his life around, and he had in fact left that element of his life behind, and if he had in fact devoted his life to his family and his career... and if his past came back one last time to haunt him. JMHO, but that would be the saddest outcome.

You act like I was wishing for this to happen to him.
Borderline racist statements? When? I am far from a racist. Please give me examples, doubt you can as I never make racist statements.
You're right...fair is fair.
How about *what others have percieved to be* borderline racist statements? I don't know you from Adam, and I shouldn't have made that generalization.

Depends......What's the question?
Are we talking about Taylor being a thug before, or being a thug now? My take has been that he was a proven thug back then, and that past likely came back to haunt him now.
Was he a thug now? It's easy to say he was turning his life around, but other than the word of people who probably want to shine a positive light on a man who was just killed, we don't really have any proof. While I'd like to believe that he was refocusing his life, the sad fact is that people will always paint a guy in a nicer picture after he's been killed. That's what we do as an evolving species.
Understand I'm not saying he was a thug last week. I am saying that despite what the po-po are stating, I believe this wasn't a random burglery.
Hey, I'm no cop. I wasn't there. I don't know the facts of what they've found or haven't found at the house. What I do know is that on the radio they talked about a knife being left on the pillow of his bed the previous week, and that the investigators took a computer out of his house. Neither of those facts are things I've ever heard of when talking about a simple burglery gone bad. I also can't ever recall a burglery where the crooks made a ton of noise, broke into the bedroom, fired shots, then left.
So........having said all that, I don't believe this to be a simple burglery. It just doesn't add up. Rolle knew Taylor's old ways and said he'd been with the wrong crowd. He then said that he felt that Taylor's old ways had come back to haunt him. This thing was fishy from the get-go, and now it's REALLY suspect. A simple theft? I think not.

I'm not going to dig through old posts to show why a lot of people think you're racist...if they're wrong, screw them...I personally think that it's near impossible to be raised in our society and not on some level hold some traits of thinking that could be interpreted as racism, no matter who you are. In that respect, I think finger pointing and calling someone a racist is just stupid.
My point was, it's not what you said but how you said it.

See, you want to use the same sources to prove that at one time that Taylor was a thug but do not want to believe that Taylor changed his life, from the SAME SOURCES!! As far as what caused his death, you nor I know right now other than a gunshot to the groin area! Motives for the death, many, some from old enemies from a possible old friend that he did not hang with any more. It could have been from a jealous old friend, right now we do not know. ( BTW - That is what Rolle was saying along with other things!)

Actually, bullet-riddled cars owned and driven by Taylor, spitting on players, and pointing loaded guns at people were enough proof of what he was.
That's the curse of being a thug: There's factual evidence showing that a person was bad, but it takes time to earn a better reputation.
So while I'd like to believe he'd been changing his ways, nobody, not you, not Rolle, not the 'Skins, and not even his own girl can prove otherwise.
Ya know, what I'm gettin' here is the feeling that you want everyone to believe he'd changed his ways. You can't prove that he has, so you'll probably just have to live with the fact that people will believe what they want to believe.

Well now, here is finally the truth of what you feel. Other than the spitting incident( on field incident), the others are based off of incidents of someone stealing from him, thats why he was waving a gun in peoples faces, which led to people shooting at him. But if that is the Definition you want to use for thug, ok. But remember, someone steals from you and you get your gun and start waving it around, you are a thug also! But since we will go with him being a thug, and the same people who back your claim of this lifestyle are the same folks you say you do not want to believe when they state he turned his life around. As a matter of fact, your true position came out. You hold the position of once a thug, always a Thug - Quote:

Ok, I get it now and you are right, you and Navy hold the same positions. But I wonder, do you hold this same line on drug users and other people who did certain acts but now say they have changed their ways?

His family came out and refuted what he said. In fact they say he was out riding his bicycle this past weekend.
The whole knife on the bed thing was supposedly a kitchen knife used in the last robbery. His phone lines were not cut according to police and his security system wasn't turned on.
The media and people on this board are making huge assumptions at every turn, the fact is none of us have a clue to what happened.
We can speculate from what we have heard that he lived a very troubling life, but we don't know that he is still in those circles or that it was his past catching up with him.

Very Godfather-esque if you ask me. I don't think it was left there on accident. That's just my opinion.

With all do respect to the Taylor family, I certainly wouldn't lable Rolle's comments as a bunch of hogwash. It wouldn't surprise me if Rolle knew a bit more about Sean's past with "shady" characters than his family. Again, just a drunken fools opinion.

I don't think they refuted his past, just the fact that he wasn't scared in Florida. The sited him riding a bike as proof.
It kinda sounds to me that a bunch of the guys he knew were not what I would call "good people". I am not ruling out the possibility that this was some sort of payback, I'm just not making up my mind that it was without any facts. Even if it is payback, is it because he was still in trouble, or was it because he left that trouble behind and some didn't like it?
The only conclusion I'm willing to make now is that I think he was a punk. When or if he changed I don't know. I do know that Joe Gibbs is the greatest human being in football and his opinion carries weight with me.

Man, you guys sleigh me, especially NDC
NDC, I'm done with you. You need to take reading comprehension classes then read what I wrote again. The nuances of exactly what I'm saying are beyond you.
Moving on.......
Candy and Buck, at least you two had the decency to ask me if that's what I meant, even if said questions were thinly disguised as accusations.
What I've said, over and over, is that he used to be a punk. There isn't one soul on this board that can say he wasn't. You carry around a loaded weapon when you're barely old enough to drink and not a cop, you're a punk. You spit on people, you're a punk. You run with the crowd he did, you're a punk. Am I a big meanie because I'm saying it soon after he was shot and killed? Boohoo
Are we here to give eulogies or to talk about the subject matter at hand? He'll get all the nice and kind words when they lay him to rest.
What he was is quite possibly the reason why he's now dead. Because of what he was, which has been PROVEN beyond a shadow of a doubt, it's much harder to PROVE that he's now a good guy. Am I saying he was a bad guy right before he died? Feel free to find a quote where I said that. What I ACTUALLY said was that it's impossible for anyone to prove that he was totally away from that lifestyle or mindset over the past short amount of time.
Some people want to take quotes from players or coaches. That isn't proof. Because he was a thug for much of his life, it takes a long while to prove that he's no longer a punk. That's the way life is. The tone of my words doesn't change reality.
Now somewhere at the beginning or middle of this thread (or maybe the one that was deleted) I asked God to look after those he left behind. Did he deserve it? Unless he did something we don't know about, no, he didn't. That doesn't mean he wasn't a punk before, or that he was a punk or an angel last week.

Ohhhhhhhhh...it just got saucier... After the last reply, I started browsing TMZ and found this link to the Miami Herald... Andy Garcia's Niece! Yes, the guy from Ocean's 11 Andy Garcia: Taylor saved niece's life BY OSCAR CORRAL ocorral@MiamiHerald.comActor Andy Garcia hailed his niece's slain boyfriend, NFL star Sean Taylor, as a ''free safety until the end'' who showed bravery in the last moments of his life to protect his family. Garcia is the uncle of Jackie Garcia, Taylor's girlfriend, who was in the house when Taylor was shot Monday morning, and who hid under the sheets with the couple's 18-month old baby when Taylor confronted his killer. Garcia and her family have kept quiet, declining to speak to the media. Their silence was broken by Andy, who spoke highly of Taylor. ''His heroic action on that tragic night saved their life and is a testament to his humanity and courage,'' Garcia said in his statement, which was provided to The Miami Herald through his manager, Joanne Colonna. ``His spirit will live forever, in our hearts and through the legacy of his achievements and the family he leaves behind.'' Garcia and Taylor met at Gulliver Prep School, an exclusive school in Miami-Dade county where Taylor shone on the field as a young man, leading the school to a state championship. Garcia was a successful soccer player. The couple attended the University of Miami together and had their first child last year, also named Jackie. ''Sean was known to many as an extraordinary athlete and unquestionable teammate,'' Garcia said. ``To those of us who had the good fortune to count him as a member of our extended family, we will always remember him as a caring and loving individual especially to his new family, his precious daughter Jackie and to the love of his life and mother to his child my niece Jacqueline.''

And while we're at it, an article from ESPN's Michael Smith which dates back a year or two:
Quote:
For all his wondrous gifts, potential and all that he means to one of the best defenses in football the past two seasons -- "We're a different team with him," quarterback Mark Brunell has said -- Taylor has been associated with bad news. It seems he's either being sanctioned, sentenced, sued or suspended.
He blew off the league's mandatory rookie symposium, an act for which he was fined $25,000. Perhaps even worse was Taylor's refusal to accept/return legendary head coach Joe Gibbs' calls when Taylor boycotted the team's offseason program last year. The Redskins suspended him for a game his rookie season after an arrest for driving under the influence (he was later acquitted).
He's reportedly been fined seven times for on-field infractions, including $17,500 for acts of unnecessary roughness. The nation saw the best and worst of Taylor in that Tampa Bay game last postseason. Following the aforementioned touchdown, Taylor spit in the face of Bucs running back Michael Pittman, earning an immediate ejection and a fine from the league of $17,000.
The Redskins don't mind that stuff as much. Defensive coordinator/defensive line coach Greg Blache calls Taylor a throwback, "Dick Butkus playing safety." "He plays how we want him to play," Williams says. "I'd like a lot more people playing with that kind of tough attitude. Now he has to understand that he can't go too far and hurt the team. I think he's come to realize that he can't handle situations that way. I hope he says that. Behind the scenes he has."
"If he stays healthy and really learns to play within the defense, he can be the best that ever played the position." Gregg Williams, Redskins defensive coordinator As is often the case with athletes who compete with such great passion and intensity, what makes them great in the arena can be problem in society. Taylor, 23, nearly threw away his career and his life last year when he allegedly took his bully act too far in the real world. In June 2005, he was arrested and charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and a misdemeanor count of simple battery for allegedly brandishing a gun and assaulting a man who Taylor believed stole two vehicles from him. If convicted, he could have faced up to 46 years in prison. After seven trial postponements, Taylor reached a plea agreement: He pleaded no contest to simple misdemeanor assault and battery counts and received 18 months probation. He also was ordered to speak to 10 Miami-area schools and donate $1,000 to each. (The man is suing Taylor, accusing Taylor of striking him.)
Earlier this week, the league announced it had fined Taylor four game checks based on his 2005 salary, a penalty of roughly $72,000.
Said Taylor during the team's June minicamp following his plea bargain, "The other stuff [his legal troubles] has kind of been like a gray cloud over my head, but now I can see a little bit of light."
Who is Sean Taylor? Is he the thug we see on the field and read about in the police blotter?
So he's proven to be a punk with a good side. Maybe he had changed his ways. We don't know for sure. We know he died needlessly, but there's a very real possibility that his bad years are at the core of his shooting.

I can't for the life of me see where you have said anything wrong. Pointing out his past isn't the same as thinking he got what he desrved, or even saying he is still a punk. Like always people jump off the deep end on both sides so there can't be any rational discusion.

Thanks. I'm glad someone gets it (which must be a bad thing for you ).
If he had a file that showed he helped little old ladies across the street or gave game checks to orphanages this past year, I'd be more inclined to say there's proof that he's beginning to get it. The great sadness of life is that when you have a proven track record of doing bad, it takes that much time of great good for people to begin to consider that a person is starting to get it.
Or must I repeat how sad his death is each and every post to satisfy the moral unjustness welling up in some posters minds......

Pdawg, if you actually read the most of the posts, none of them say its bad to bring up his past. Yes, he might have hung with a bad crew once in his life, but there evidence/fact that says he turned his life around. TOAD - does not want to believe that even though his OWN source stated as such. Then in another post, he states no matter what was said about him, that does not prove he was still a "thug". Now please explain how rational is that logic?

I stopped reading most of the posts because I get tired of the usual suspects saying the usual things. I know where a lot of people stand n these issues without having to read them. Many on here think the same way, even if the circumstances are different.

I think that he may have, but there is no evedience of it, period. We have heard from some that know him that say he has, but like someone else said not everyone knew all aspects of his life. We have heard no reports that say he hasn't. I think people have the right to be skeptical, even if I'm not.

I have read everything Toad has said since I consider him a friend. I understand his point of view, even if it differs somewhat from mine. I do know that Toad is a caring person and he would never say anything like "This kid deserved what he got." Again, there is no evidence that he has changed at this point, just people that cared for him saying he did. If this turns out to be some kind of hit, we will probably find out if it is because he was still being stupid, or because he turned his back on those who were bad influences.

Now people point to police blotters and that ilk to show as proof/fact that Taylor did some stupid things. (Cool, fine absolutely the case). But wouldnt the fact that he's has not been in police blotters, or court and that ilk be atleast evidence of him doing right? I mean his last incident was 2005.
The problem that i have is people are so quick to want to label people with these all encompassing labels and 9 times out of 10 its the people that have NEVER met or said a single word to the person. Whether its people calling Taylor a thug or people calling Navy and or others a racist yada yada yada. Its crazy but hey *shrug*

Bump. Just thought this update deserved to bump this thread..... web page Three detained in Taylor murder case Nov. 30, 2007 CBSSports.com wire reports MIAMI -- Police have detained at least three people in the Fort Myers area for questioning in the death of Washington Redskins football star Sean Taylor. Advertisement A law enforcement official in Lee County confirmed the men from the Fort Myers area were in custody, but requested anonymity because the investigation is being handled by Miami-Dade County police. Miami-Dade police Detective Carlos Maura said he was not aware of anyone in custody. He said only that detectives were in the Fort Myers area for a case, but declined to say which one. The Miami Herald, which first reported the development on its website, said investigators believe three suspects learned of Taylor's house through someone who unwittingly set up the burglary by bragging about his wealth. The suspects include two teenagers and a man in his 20s, all from the Fort Myers area, the paper reported. A telephone message left at the Florida City Police Department for Taylor's father, Chief Pedro Taylor, was not immediately returned. Richard Sharpstein, a former Taylor lawyer and family friend, said: "It looks like the police are pursuing extremely good leads. It appears that the burglary was exactly as I've always stated, not random, that Sean's house was targeted." Evidence at Taylor's home indicated one or more intruders barged into the house early Monday in an attempted burglary, Miami-Dade police director Robert Parker said Wednesday. After a confrontation inside the home, Taylor was shot once in the upper leg and died early Tuesday after losing a tremendous amount of blood. Taylor's family has scheduled a funeral service for 11 a.m. Monday at Pharmed Arena at Florida International University in Miami
And the next head coach is ......

Miami-Dade police: 4 arrested in slaying of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor By LISA ORKIN EMMANUEL, Associated Press Writer November 30, 2007 MIAMI (AP) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department arrested four people Friday and charged them with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor. Police spokeswoman Linda O'Brien identified the men as: Venjah K. Hunte, 20; Eric Rivera Jr., 17; Jason Scott Mitchell, 17; and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow, 18. Taylor died Tuesday, one day after being shot at his home in an affluent Miami suburb during what officials said appeared to be an attempted burglary. The suspects weren't expecting Taylor to be home, police director Robert Parker said, but Taylor was recuperating from a knee injury and had returned to Miami from Washington. "They were certainly not looking to go there and kill anyone," Parker said. He added authorities had more than one confession but would not elaborate. "We're looking into whether or not one or more of the individuals had been at the residence before," Parker said. The Miami Herald reported investigators believe the men learned of Taylor's house through someone who unwittingly set up the burglary by bragging about Taylor's wealth. Taylor and longtime girlfriend, Jackie Garcia, were awakened early Monday by loud noises at Taylor's home, family friend Richard Sharpstein said. Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection, Sharpstein said, then someone broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor in the upper leg. Neither the couple's 18-month-old daughter, also named Jackie, nor Garcia were injured. The bullet damaged the femoral artery in Taylor's leg, causing significant blood loss. Taylor never regained consciousness and died a little more than 24 hours later. A public viewing for Taylor is scheduled Sunday in Miami, and the entire Redskins organization plans to fly to Florida to attend Monday's funeral at Pharmed Arena at Florida International University. The Redskins also announced that fans attending the team's Sunday game will receive a towel with Taylor's No.21 jersey on it and that his name will be displayed prominently in one of the end zones. Team owner Dan Snyder said in a statement the team will contribute a minimum of $500,000 to a fund to benefit Taylor's daughter. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-redskins-taylorslain&prov=ap&type=lgns
