I would like a combination of both the NFL and NCAA systems.

I think there should be a coin flip and the winning team should choose if they want to kick or receive.

It should go possession to possession. If team 1 gets ball first and is forced to punt and team 2 scores, they win. If team 2 punts and team 1 scores team 2 must score. Also if team 1 gets a FG and team 2 gets a TD team 2 wins.

There would be no game clock, just the play clock and it goes until one team wins it.

Both teams would get an equal chance on offense but the team that wins the toss has the advantage of playing off or def like there is to begin a game (just slightly different).

scenarios:

If team 1 doesn't score and team 2 does (FG or TD), team 2 wins

If team 1 gets a FG and so does Team 2, they play on

If team 1 gets a TD and so does Team 2, they play on

If team 1 scores a FG and Team 2 scores a TD, team 2 wins

If team 1 is tackled for a safety team 2 wins because the safety rule would force team 1 to punt the ball to team 2 which would be irrelevant because team 2 was winning and didn't need their possesion to win or tie the game.

Does this make sense? I apologize if someone already posted this same sort of thing as i did not read every post.

I agree (well i did write it so i should), that way both teams have a chance on offense but it keeps all phases of the game involved and crucial.

Yes Its not that I'm in love with the College OT format however I think it only fair both teams have a chance to touch the ball,It would make it more exciting.

One last thought on this !! I was a little surprised on how many people approved or were allright with the current system.I guess its the minority that would like to see it changed.I know one thing for sure TIES should never be a part of the NFL.

I don't think it is so much that people like the system in the NFL. I think it is more people hate the college system.

We are choosing the lessor of 2 evils.

I don't like the NCAA way, but it would be good if after the first team scores, they kick it off, and the other team has one chance.

I fail to see why the NFL opposes this.

That's easy:

1. That's what sudden death means....SUDDEN DEATH!

2. It's P-R-O football, not college. I don't know how many games I've watched over the years where teams have lost in overtime because of their own poor play. Our game vs. the Ratbirds is a prime example. We shouldn't have been in that overtime situation to start with - we're up by 13, they have no offense, their defense in general is starting to erode, yet we allowed those disease-ridden crows back in the game with our -poor 2nd half play. Same with the SF-Arizona game last Sunday. The Cards should've blown the Niners out, period. They allowed them to get back in the game and extend it, and U see what happened as a result. The bottom line is this: 9 times out of ten, win or lose, teams get what they deserve anyway. There's 60 minutes to a ballgame... U don't wanna work overtime, handle your business.

According to the rules though, an NFL game CAN end in a tie. And if you're in a playoff hunt, i.e. Browns, a tie is not a loss, and that's a good thing.

Yes, but who wants to pay money to go see a game end in a tie (which counts as half win half loss for a teams winning %, in case someone didn't know).

It is in the rules now, and doesn't happen often but why have a game end in a tie. I personally don't like ties but they are currently allowed to happen. If you are playing a sport, IMO there should be a winner and a loser
