I'm excited about tonight's game. Buffalo travels to LA to take on the Rams in the very first game of the NFL season. There is a decent chance that these two teams end up playing the final game of the season in the Super Bowl, as well. Here is a game preview from ESPN.

Quote
Super challenge: Rams open title defense vs powerhouse Bills

INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- — For nearly seven months, Sean McVay has told the Los Angeles Rams their Super Bowl championship guarantees them nothing in this new season except a banner.

“It feels like it was a long time ago,” said McVay, the youngest coach in NFL history to win it all. “It’s one that I’ll always cherish, but I think if you live in the past, you’re going to get exposed in the present. So we’re not going to do that.”

The Rams will unveil that banner Thursday night at SoFi Stadium before they get another reminder of just how little their championship victory on that same field last winter will mean this fall.

The NFL chose Von Miller and the powerhouse Buffalo Bills as the Rams' opponent in their season opener, practically ensuring a difficult start to a season in which they're widely perceived to have the league's toughest schedule. The Rams know they'll get every opponent's best shot this year, starting with a visit from a team holding serious championship aspirations of its own.

“Going in to play the defending Super Bowl champs and watching them raise their banner, that’ll be an interesting feeling, for sure,” Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen said. “I’ve talked to a few people that have played and coached in this game before, and just really the unanimous thing that they were talking about was it feels like playoff atmosphere.”

The Rams are Vegas underdogs in their first game since winning their franchise's second Super Bowl title. In fact, the Bills could send Los Angeles to a place it has never been with McVay — below .500.

The Rams have never lost a season opener or had a losing record at any point in the tenure of McVay, who took over in 2017 and immediately built a perennial winner with general manager Les Snead.

Sean McDermott got his job in Buffalo one week before McVay, and the still-young coaches already have the sixth- and seventh-longest tenures in the league. But while McVay got the ultimate validation last season, McDermott is hoping this will be the year for the Bills' first Super Bowl trip since the 1993 season.

The Rams already did it all in a season filled with superlatives, including the spectacular statistical campaign by Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp.

“The question we’re always trying to answer is, how can 2022 be better for the LA Rams?” Kupp said. “What can we do better? Who can we put on the field to stack blocks and build on this thing? Feels good to be back playing a meaningful game.”

DORSEY'S DEBUT

Ken Dorsey first made his name in football by going 38-2 as the University of Miami's quarterback from 1999-2002, a stint which included a national championship in 2001. Dorsey now makes his debut as an offensive coordinator, running one of the league's most productive groups after being promoted to replace Brian Daboll.

“Whether you’re a position coach or a play-caller or a head coach, I really feel like you’ve got to go earn it," Dorsey said. "No one’s going to hand you anything. When you get to the point where I’ve been fortunate enough to get to right now, you don’t take it for granted, because you realize how hard it is to get there.”

TWO NEW RAMS

While Los Angeles lost Miller to a more lucrative offer in Buffalo, it added two key veterans in free agency. Inside linebacker Bobby Wagner debuts as the defensive signal-caller for his hometown team after a decade in Seattle, while receiver Allen Robinson takes over as Kupp's counterpart.

BACKUPS AT CORNER

The biggest question mark looming for Buffalo's defense is which rookie — Kaiir Elam or Christian Benford — will start at cornerback opposite Dane Jackson in their vaunted pass defense with Tre’Davious White sidelined by a left knee injury and Levi Wallace gone in free agency.

Elam is Buffalo’s first-round pick out of Florida, while Benford was a sixth-round selection out of Villanova. Both were locked in competition through the preseason.

“We’re still working through that,” McDermott said. “Everything we try and do is to give our team the best advantage to win, and do right by the players on our team, and make sure that they’re in the right headspace to play their best football, particularly for these two rookies.”

AD ON VON

Donald enjoyed his brief chance to play with another fellow Hall of Fame-caliber defender last season, but the seven-time All-Pro said he hasn't spoken to Miller this week.

“If anything, we had conversations more about leadership things, being more of a vocal guy,” Donald said. “I give a lot of credit (to Miller) definitely for that playoff run. Having conversations with Von, I feel like he challenged me with some things as a vocal leader, and I stepped in when I needed to. Always respect and love Von for that. We created some special things, so we miss him.

"But he’s on the opposite side now, so he is the enemy.”

VON ON AD

Miller has too much respect for Donald to even begin to suggest there's a way to contain him.

“There is no weakness,” Miller said.

“I’d be setting them up for failure if I tell them, like, 'If you just do this, you’ll be all right.′ Like, he’s good at everything,” he added. “Aaron Donald’s going to make plays, and we just got to find ways to make just one more play than those guys.”

Finally football! I think it’s a great opener. Two of the top 5 teams in the NFL. I think it’s the Bills to lose this year

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

The Bills look very dangerous on PAPER.
How many teams in recent memory have been crowned Champs
In August only to fail come December.?
The Browns come to mind.
I like the Bills playoff chances. But they can't get it done

Gabriel Davis is ascending as a WR. How did Andrew Berry
Have DPJ ranked higher than Davis?

Same reason Schwartz was a 3rd rounder. Berry could be given. The choice of Jerry Rice, Quincy Morgan, and Randy Moss and end up with Quincy Morgan because analytics say that he ties his shoes with a bow knot.

At any rate, Buffalo is going to dominate the AFC. Josh Allen is that guy, and Von Miller and the Buffalo defense is scary

They are going to get Allen hurt running him so much.

But that was a huge swing and a miss by Dorsey.

If they don’t win the title this year that’s an upset IMO

it's a long season and a lot can happen to derail a team, but Buffalo picked up where they left off, and will only get better as they get in the groove.

Contrast that with the Browns game 1 last year.

They also picked up where they left off but only for three quarters.

That train wreck feeling...I got it last year too after the Browns fourth quarter against KC.

There are a lot of great qbs in the game right now and many reside in the AFC. This is subjective, but there is no qb I would rather have for the long term than Josh Allen. I didn't even pay much attention to him coming out in the draft because all said he was inaccurate. He is not inaccurate now. Evaluating college qbs is so hard.

Buffalo looks really good. Their DL looks much improved and they have a very good secondary. Their best corner, Tre’Davious White, didn't even play last night. Excellent safeties. Their OL is okay. Good TE and WRs. But, Allen is the straw that stirs that drink.

It was great having football back.

Good point about their DL. Miller and Oliver are a force. If they play like that it’ll be tough to score enough points to beat that team

Nope. Defenders are going to get injured if they keep trying to tackle so high.

We were afraid of the floor and refused to look up at the ceiling... and the narrative that QBs can't improve their accuracy.

I'll ask again as I did then. Would you trade 2.4 incompletions per game for someone that can throw 70 yards to any point of the field, from any angle, at any velocity, and runs like Gronk in the open field?

I'm more mad about this than bone-headed decision this franchise has ever made. We made a very simple decision too complicated based on narrative... instead of eye-popping facts.

I mean hindsight is 20/20. Of course you would make that trade seeing as how he turned out. If you wanted Allen back then, kudos to you. I don't follow much college football so I don't remember if I had any strong opinions on who we should take except I didn't want Darnold. Actually, I think I wanted Rosen. I was lukewarm on the Baker pick and was hoping for the best, and he won me over in that Jets game.

The year before Allen came out I wanted him, but the accuracy thing was definitely a souring point his last year.

You still have to give these guys time. Baker was the best of the bunch after their rookie seasons and that was a largely universal opinion, even amongst Bills fans. The NFL is kind of the ultimate wait and see game.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Just clicking. The Panthers first four games are
Browns
Giants
Home Saints
Home Cardinals ...

They might be 6-0 when the play Tamp Bay Tom. or not, (but might be worth a watch.)

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

CINCINNATI -- Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt is the latest name to leave the season opener with an injury.

Watt went down after hitting Joe Burrow on a last-minute drive in Week 1. After tackling Burrow, he stood up, walked off to the sideline holding his shoulder and met with trainers. They did not go into the medical tent but instead headed straight to the locker room.

Watt's injury comes after the Steelers suffered injuries to Levi Wallace, Mason Cole and Najee Harris.

The team has not announced the injury, but as he walked towards the sideline he said, "I tore my pec" to the trainers.

Before his injury, Watt recorded six tackles and a sack."

That's because Burrow is not the guy everyone thinks he is.

Bad loss for San Fran today. Should have never lost to the Bears.

In regards to San Francisco, I predict that they’ll go back to Jimmy G at some point

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

What a gutsy call by Brian Daboll in his HC debut to go for two. Love it.

Carr looked shaky today. Worse I’ve seen him play

I have to put something out there that I’ve been thinking for a while: when Aaron Rodgers hangs up his cleats, the Packers are going to be a reborn garbage franchise.

That's because Burrow is not the guy everyone thinks he is.

And Brian Daboll is fat.

I think Burrow is elite. He’s a generational QB. I think he just had a bad day. He started putting it together later in the game. That team and the HC seem hell bent on “Lucking” him though.

One thing about burrow IMO … if you take away his check down safety valve (Mixon usually) he has a tendency to force it

He had to today. They forced him to do everything on offense. They live and die by him, as seen today. He rose up after he admittedly flopped in the first half. His WRs did him no favors at time either (can’t remember who the guy was that missed the easy TD).

If you want to see how good he is, remember how the Bengals fared in 2020 after he went down. It feels like Andrew Luck 2.0 to me.

They even redid their offensive line. He was still under pressure. Sometimes he did it to himself but other times the playcalling set him up to be a tackling dummy.

The AFC South did all 3 other divisions a favor today in the AFC wild card race.
The Titans lost to an NFC team. (Giants)
The Jaguars lost to an NFC team. ( Redskins)
and the Colts and Texans tied each other.

So no team in the AFC south, in the race for the wild card spots, has more than I/2 a win.
Now, One team has to take their division title and thus the automatic playoff berth, but for the odds
The AFC South
did all the other I2 teams in the AFC's other 3 divisions, including the Browns' division, a favor for the week, by none of them getting a win.
(there that's football.)

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Some thoughts on today's games:

--Boswell and McPherson are two of the better kickers in the league. McPherson literally won games late in the season and in the playoffs w/clutch kicks. Boswell is elite. Cinci's long snapper got hurt and the snaps were awful.

--Cinci spent all that money on the OL and they were terrible. Again.

--Mahomes is going to go on a Scorched Earth tour. Trust me on that one.

--Herbert is elite. K. Mack had a huge game for Chargers and their dumb ass coach wasn't as dumb as nornal.

--How does SF lose to the Bears? The Jimmy G watch is on.

--Eagles/Lions game was pretty awesome......from what little I saw of it.

--Disappointing performance by Indy.

--Gutsy move by Dabol w/the NY Giants. I liked him when he was here. Most said he sucked.

--Watch out for Baltimore.

--Really sad to hear of TJ Watt's injury. I know it helps us, but he is one helluva player. The NFL is better if he is playing.

--Justin Jefferson is going to go off this year. Watch out for Minni.

--How did ATL blow that game?

It wasn't intended as an insult. I was trying to say I respect your opinion even though I disagree with it.

Besides, there's no football to talk here. I watch way too much football. I've seen nearly every Burrow snap. I don't understand people falling all over themselves for him. I also have zero interest in trying to change other people's opinions on it...or anything for that matter.

KC is my AFC pick this year. Agree with you about Mahomes.

Also agree on Baltimore. I believe Jackson goes scorched earth.

Herbert is elite. You could make the argument he and Allen are the two best QBs in the league.

Peace. I apologize if I misread your post.

That being said, if you look at the Bengals roster and coaching staff from 2019 to 2021, what would you say is the biggest difference? One might say Jamarr Chase, but I can never think of one time a WR was THE difference maker for a franchise. The closest argument to that was Anquan Boldin for the Ravens in 2012, IMO.

Burrow, IMO is elite, and Cincy is apparently hellbent on utilizing all their pent up poor karma to ensure someone of his caliber still won’t succeed.

I almost kind of want Jackson to go scorched earth, minus two games against us and without a super bowl just to further complicate the ravens leverage in contract negotiations. The last time they overpaid their QB, it set them back for a while.

I would pay Jackson. He's frigging good. Don't overthink it. If Balt can't afford it or if that type of contract goes against their "philosophy" that's not Cleveland's problem.

I would rather see Balt without Jackson than with him.

I don’t disagree with you.

I’d rather see them without Jackson on his rookie deal (including the option) than anything else which will obviously be the case.

Either they have to pay him and make some sacrifices to the other areas of the team that they’ve been able supplement him with, or they don’t pay him and don’t have him on the roster. In either scenario, I think it would be better than the current circumstance, right?

The only thing I don't want to see is them signing him for a reasonable amount.

Burrow has the head/brain you want in a QB. People also want to root for him because he's likeable.

Cinci is at least trying to keep him in 1 piece, finally.

I should said emphasis was on 'trying'.

They did something this off-season. Steelers in week 1 aren't the greatest gauge. They make lots of Olines look silly.

Cincy lost, and Pitts could barely pull out the win even with 5 picks. Maybe a fluke but both of those are good news for the Browns.

I run two TVs during game days. I normally flip around a ton on the second TV, but I left the Pit/Cinci game on a lot today. That was a hard fought game. Not sure if I would criticize either team too much. JMO.

Sure hope it isn't a complete tear for TJ Watt and he can return sometime this season. On the bright side, I sure wasn't predicting a Steelers win. That D looked great! Mitch Trubisky and the O-Line, not so much.

Dallas looks cooked for the year, and I hate to be so impulsive about it.

They have ZERO playmaking on the outside and their OL stinks. Now take out Dak for a month or two and it’s top 5 draft pick range

My biggest surprises on the day was Detroit scoring 35 against the Eagles and San Fran losing to Chicago. I'm not as big on going after Try Lance this early on. Nor am I as big in hating on Ciny's OL in their first game together after replacing so many starters on that line. Time will tell. But man did Burrows ever look horrible in that first half.

I don't have any idea if Dak was just having a bad day or what. But if that's any indication of what was to come, him being hurt might not have as negative of an impact as it may seem. One thing we saw today was just how valuable it is to have a great kicker in the clutch today. Not having one hurt a lot of teams today and the Browns having one is why they won the game.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I am not sure what is more telling. Cincy committing 5 turnovers and still should have won. Or Pittsburg getting the benefit of turning over Cincy 5 times and getting lucky to squeak out a win.

Matt Ryan is done.

Most overrated pick up of the offseason.

I would be so frustrated as a Colts fan. Good team, bad QB play, and really substandard efforts to address it.

Funny you said that because i just said the exact same thing to a buddy. Almost word for word. Ryan is cooked and the Colts are going to waste a great roster

I saw something that put their game into context for me. They (Pitt) scored 17 points off of 5 turnovers, including a pick 6, I believe. They will live and die by that defense, that now doesn't have Watt. Their offense was pretty terrible. Also, is Harris down for a while?

It's never really the case when it happens in real life, but on paper, we should match up well with the Steelers. Ball control offense, limiting turnovers and a good defense. Now let's see if that's actually the case when the game happens.

Najee Harris might be the most overrated player in the NFL. Zero dynamic qualities. It's Trent Richardson all over again. He collects stats on volume of touches. He doesn't possess any elite qualities. I love that he's a Steeler.

He's underwhelmed for sure.

Yesterday it seemed like that offense couldn't put things together when they were setting up from normal kickoffs or punts, aside from the last drive. I'll be interested to see how they do against teams that are more run-first, ball control style offenses.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Yeah, although getting a second and third opinion probably means the first opinion provided bad news.

Man, that makes you wonder. If the first opinion gave him bad news, how effective will he be if he's playing with a dinged up pec that probably should have had surgery? That's a muscle you use a ton in every day life, let alone at that position.

Yeah thats true. It’s not going to be good news. I hate injuries even though he’s a huge factor for their team

Piutsburgh won't miss a beat. The Establishment will manufacture wins for them, like the Chicago game last year.

And I expect them to win At Cleveland, ... The Browns, and the home Pittsburgh game, Pittsburgh wins/ has won like 29 of the last 32, or something outrageous like that. Now, if you figure the Browns, suddenly have a @uarterback who may only throw for I47+ or - yards, and I think it's likely that Pittsburgh wins at Cleveland.
The establishment wants it, and the establishment gets what the establishment wants, eventually.
And by establishment I mean, New York, LA, the big markets, Hollywood, stuff like that.

All the predictions can start to look bad really fast.

Everything is based upon starters playing. What happens quickly is back-ups take over for starters.

Dak, Watt, Harris, JaWuan James (Ravens tackle) Achillies,

Sitting at BW3s yesterday, was watching Browns and Steelers game back and forth
This is what I saw from Steelers game.

1. Cincy's oline has 4 new starters
Chemistry could take a few games

2. Pittsburgh oline cannot run block

3. Burrow needs to learn to stop being so cavalier
With the ball. He is holding the ball too long

4. Tee Higgins got hurt. That was a turning point in the game

5. Alex Highsmith is a up and coming OLB.

6. Jamar Chase is legit.

7. Cincys defense is under rated

8.Chase Claypool looks focused

9.the fact Cincy almost won despite 5 TOs says
Alot about their culture

10. Minkah Fitzpatrick is a baller.

I initially agreed with you in hoping for a tie, but in the long run, I think the Bengals will be better than the Steelers overall this season, so I'll take an L on them.

Seattle’s defense is hot garbage. They can’t tackle at all. Geno looks good so far.

Denver defense looks very bad which is surprising. And Seattle is definitely juiced

Seattle’s lime green unis are ugly, but they pop on the tv screen .

Metcalf with a fumble, nice play by the Broncos defender to rip it out

The NFL is messed up. . So they want to put, SNF, MNF, and TNF on network TV during the first week of the season,
but most of the year 2 of those aren't. And one will spend a lot of time on computer streaming only.
Stopped looking for it, didn't even see it until now.
Denver just lost this game.
More games are lost than won, Bill Bellichic.

For all the complaining aboiut the roughing the passer call Sunday - and how a DL can sack a QB at full speed without landing their weight on the QB .... watch the Sack Russell Wilson takes at 8:28 in the 4th Q. Almost an exact replica of the sack - but he shows you how to not land on the QB with his body weight. Text book. . . . and I think Denver is coming back to win.

I wonder how they'll keep Denver Down, by the end of this game, pretty sure it'll work out that way though.

Such an odd ending to the game last night (what else is new in Seattle?) … they were in no-man’s land and just let the clock go to kick a 64 yarder!!

Denver was extremely undisciplined and was awful in the red zone all night

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention Seattle's uniforms.

Awful.

They look like popsicles.

Horrible color for a football uniform.

To be fair on the clock vs FG attempt - the kicker easily had the leg and it was a 4th down and 5. I would have tried to pick up 5 yards and taken a time out - with 20 seconds left and a time out available, that was still an option. They decided to have faith in the kicker. Not calling a time out as soon as the previous play was blown up was just rookie/bad HC stuff. I'm not sure it changed the outcome of the game. With 40 seconds left and 4th and 5 and time outs available you can go for it. With 20 seconds left and 4th and 5 with time outs available you can still go for it if you choose.

With 1:00 left and 3 TO’s, my instinct was to run a play fairly quickly. Even if you don’t convert, there will be around 55 seconds left AND you still have 3 TO’s. You can still get the ball back with over 30 seconds remaining

He didn't sound too bright in the presser but it was his first game. Apparently he's well respected. I never heard of the guy.

He's the son of Paul Hacket, the long time QB coach and OC in the NFL. He was also HC at Pit in college.] He was our QB coach for a couple of years back in the 80s. You remember him, right? He was a well-respected coach.

His son, now the Denver coach was the OC for Green Bay. I think he was the OC in Buffalo and one other team. You are right, it's one game. Not career defining, but that was a bad look.

Here is one thing to consider. Denver gave up a ton of picks for Russ. They are paying him huge money. He isn't Jacoby Brissett. He's not Drew Lock or T. Bridgewater. You gave up all those picks and paid him huge money to elevate others and the team. Instead, he relied on a kicker to boot at 64 yarder at sea level. The game was not in Denver. What I found most frustrating was how they let the clock just keep ticking and ticking. You have to be thinking ahead in that situation.

I agree. I think most people agree.

Put the ball in Wilson's hands and expect your offense to execute. Nobody is looking at you cross-eyed for passing on a 64yd attempt. If you fail, then the defense needs to step up and get you the ball back.

Vers' response paints the picture... a new coach, NOT thinking ahead. And then the ticking clock makes "decision constipation" worse... and probably played a role in him opting for the FG, because he would like like a fool for letting it tick away if he decides to go for it.

The Seahawks/Broncos game was a really good game to watch. Fans were pumped/LOUD! On one hand I was rootin' for Denver because I like Wilson, but on the other hand it didn't really matter to me much who won - I just wanted a good, competitive game to watch and that's pretty much what we got. Geno Smith played rather well. Surprised.

I actually liked the Seahawks uniforms. Kinda gaudy, but they really pop out at ya on TV. "I know what team they are." lol

Of course Watt wouldn't perform surgery on himself! Sorry, had to get a dig at Schefter's error there.

I think that still goes back to my earlier statement, though. I doubt it'll be 100% at the end of that period. I wonder if - whatever is wrong with it - will be healed up enough for him to play at 100%, or could there be a chance he could screw himself up more?

Watt will be back by the 2nd half of the year, so the division race will be interesting. I don’t see Cincy or Baltimore running away with it by then

Watched the Bengals Steelers game.....

The Bengals may be the most overconfident group in the NFL week 1. Strutting around like they weren't turning it over every drive.

TJ Watt was outrageous!

A number of years ago, 7-8? At Cleveland. We parked at about 10 a.m. Setting up the tailgate. Lady beside us, in her vehicle - you could tell she puked outside, but in her vehicle, passed out, with vomit all over her, and the car seat.

Cincy, back in 1994 or so? Left my seat to go get a beer. Waiting in line and some "lady" tapped me on the back. I turned around. She face raked me, knocking my hat off as well, then said "what are you gonna do about it?" And immediately there were 15-20 bengals fans around me. I just picked up my hat.

Sad it can be that way.
