I think there was a thread about cover tunes, but I couldn’t find it so thought I would start a new one.
Here’s an obscure version of Mississippi Queen, circa 1989, from a Canadian boy who did nothing else in his career as far as I know. But he nailed this while staying true to the original, except his guitar solo is more kick-ass.
"Can't Find My Way Home" - By House Of Lords (Gregg Giuffria, Ken Mary ,Chuck Wright, Lanny Cordola) Original Written by Steve Winwood w/Blind Faith (Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Ric Grech)
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.
I love music. I always have. I listen to all kinds of music.
Even though Billie Holiday was before my time. I heard her when I was in college and I was hooked. There was something in her voice, timing, and presentation that gave me chills. Still today there are times when I will listen to her for a solid week. Her recordings with Lester Young on sax eat me alive.
I love music, too. I will say that the music threads have really went down hill. Of course, that is just a personal opinion/preference. We used to have a theme [I guess we still do, like Covers or Music Videos] and we would kinda take things slow and go in-depth on a topic. I remember a thread where we were talking about great song writers or underrated song writers and we went into this deep discussion about the merits of the song Taxi by Harry Chapin. It was awesome! We did that kind of stuff all the time.
I think it's akin to sipping fine wine or eating Wagyu. You savor it. You enjoy all the nuances and complexities. Today's threads remind more of guzzling beer or a hot dog eating contest where we rapid fire out song after song w/out taking time to appreciate most of them. I wonder how many people even listen to the songs anymore?
I'm not saying this to criticize anyone. We each have our own tastes on what is enjoyable. Just stating mine and why I rarely posts on these threads anymore. I miss our old discussions.

Well then, kick-start a convo, vers.
I’m sure you and I aren’t the only ones who are willing to dive deep into a particular music topic.
No you didn’t do a bad job of that. By the way, I don’t remember the discussion of Harry Chapin and Taxi. I do think that song was based on a true story in his life.
This thread was doing fine until pit chimed in with his needless comment.
I was thinking about that thread earlier today. It might have been Songs That Tell Stories or something like that instead of the two I mentioned earlier. I remember posting some Gordon Lightfoot songs on that thread. Not sure if you like him, but you can figure out why I am mentioning him since he is from your homeland. I thought he was a great storyteller.
I owe you a Cover. Here is one of my favorites and I know you appreciate great guitar work. So, here you go. Give it a few minutes. His voice isn't very good and the build up is slow, but he freaking kills it.
Yeah I’m good with Gordon Lightfoot, my wife is a bigger fan of him than I, but Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is a haunting song, beautiful melody.
Gary Moore. I still have a Guitar Player magazine that featured him from around ‘84. I will check the video out.
From the magazine interview, I gleaned that he had a lot of integrity.
Wouldn’t “punch in” a bad note when he would record a solo, which is common, he’d play the whole thing over.
“No one else would know, but I would.”
Gary Moore is in a elite league of guitar players from that Part of the world. Page , Iommi,Blackmore, Peter Green, Beck. But Gary Moore and Rory Gallagher really really exceptional players. Moore did a couple Monsters of Rock festivals. That 84 lineup was unreal. Motley Crüe Van Halen Accept Gary Moore
