No doubt most are aware of the lottery reaching 1.9 billion.

Maybe some you have given thought to what you would do with that kind of money.

I have thought about it. After taking care of all those who are close to me.

I would build a home on primo land near my son in Oregon.

After spending some and making sure all is in order. I would give most of it away. The Nature Conservancy would receive a lot.

I would love to have an impact on species in trouble. Especially top predators like all the big cats. Elephants, rhinos all the endangered species.

Before I die I would like to know that the natural world can be healed. I would do what I can to help in that effort if I was that lucky.

Giant homes, yachts, expensive material things, cars etc. I have no interest in at all. There is little that I really want.

My one dream has always been to build a house (not big at all 4k sq, ft. or so) on remote land ( 20 acres or so) with a great view of mountains and a river.

I love the land around the Grand Tetons. All that would be under ten million. I might get a pilot license and own a small plane. Maybe.

Well I am going to throw down my two bucks and dream.

I would help a lot of causes, veterans, animals, homeless, those needing medical care they cannot afford, etc.

I have a house, but if I had that much money, I would probably buy a ranch so I don't have to fight with stairs. I would probably fence in the yard, and save several dogs. Other than that, I don't really need or want a lot.

Actually I'm waiting for the prize to get high enough to actually have an impact on my life. What would a paltry 1.9 billion do? That won't even cover groceries these days! Maybe if it gets up to over 3 billion.

In all seriousness though I would have no idea what to do with that kind of many. As far as my own wants and desires in life, much like yourself they aren't all that expensive and its a pretty short list in the grand scheme of that kind of cash. Actually my list would cost much less than yours. At my age I wouldn't want to be in the middle of nowhere due to medical and hospital availability. As you have suggested making sure my family is taken care of would be something I would address. But even then that's a small fraction of such a grand prize. I think much would be used as you and YTown mentioned and would be donated to the charities that are high on my priority list. I would probably spread mine out a little more than you suggested you would.

A little voice on my left shoulder whispers a long term residency at the Chateau Marmont, high end escorts and an ample amount of a numbing agent of my choice.

Leave the rest to family.

How could this be wrong?

I saw the movie "Bucket List" with Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.

There maybe a couple nutty things that would come to mind.

When I was living in Reno. I saw a house for sale that was right around a million. It was not a big place but damn what a view. I could imagine maybe 150 years ago seeing that land and saying. "Yep this is it." Mountains to the west will give some shelter. Water in the valley a little below. Good grass for horses. Mountains in the back to the north. It will break the wind and provide more shelter. Southern exposure. Yes, I am building a ranch right here."

Kind of a Jeremiah Johnson moment.

There are so many places I have seen out West that would do the trick. It is crazy how prices how gotten. I remember living in northern New Mexico east of Sante Fe back in the 70's. It was dirt cheap by comparison to today. I was all over the area around Taos. It was truly beautiful.
I would find land. I know where to look.

Interesting topic. Say, after a lump sum payment of somewhere around 600 million after taxes...........fun to dream, isn't it?

I'd set my kids up with trusts of 10-20 million each. Maybe 5 mil to the church I and wife attend. We're wanting to add on - have 2 million right now. Another 5 would cover it all.

Invest in ground. They aren't making it anymore. Farm ground, wooded ground.

Help so many other charities - humane society's, etc. (too many charities to even mention - not millions of dollars to each, of course - just spread it around)

Maybe buy a vacation house somewhere - but probably not. Why go to the same place all the time? We'd do some traveling, of course.

Probably sell our house and build new, right around here.

I need a nice fishing boat and a muscle car from the 70's and a multimillion dollar Manhattan apartment with a back yard on the river. I would give money to vets and set up some various foundations for future recipients. Including higher education school for future relatives. Thats it and lots of vacations

I would find me 20+ acres around where I live and build me a nice house, about 4,500 sq ft. with a pool, and a stocked pond of about 2 or 3 acres in size. I'd also give a bunch of money to my family and friends. But what I've always dreamed of doing if I was rich would be to start a construction company that built homes for military and first responders who are disabled enough that they need specialty built houses to live in and I would do it free of charge. I would do enough regular homes/developments on the side to keep the company breaking even.

I would help out some of my closest friends and family, give to the many charities we contribute to now, maybe find a few others.

Then we would probably do some more traveling, even though we've been to most everywhere we have wanted to over the years, there are a few I would like to visit gain and spend more time getting deeper into the local culture.

When not traveling, I'd probably volunteer a lot at our church and the local assistance organizations. Gotta keep busy, can't just sit around and get lazy.
