There have been many great introductions to begin songs. I can think of many.

However, when a certain mood hits this intro I play at the highest volume I can stand.

I go into mad air guitar mode.

There are dozens and dozens of great song intros to choose from.

I was thinking of posting the "Funeral for a Friend" instrumental intro to the first two songs on Elton John's Yellow Brick Road album, but not wanting to take up too much space I decided on this intro to "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" on Chicago Transit Authority's 1st album:

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Funny I looked at the title and went "where is the "r"? I had to put it in.

Intro's don't have to be long or elaborate. In this case it is a simple chord....or maybe not so simple as it might be the most discussed and famous chord in music history. Put it in front of a song that simply sums up the perfect Beatles song and you have a masterpiece. The beat, the chords, harmonies, mix...perfect.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Ha! "Snortin whiskey}" still adds 15-20 mph to my speedometer on open freeway, and I'm an old man.

Back in 1970 I was going to school at Kent. I worked at JB's in town as a bartender.

The James Gang was like a house band at Kent. I saw them countless times.

Those were some fun nights.

Joe Walsh!

That reminded me of the longest intro I've ever heard... over half the song!

Great track though with some killer guitar work. thumbsup

Surprised there's no Van Halen posts - so many great guitar intros ... Eruption, Unchained, You really got me, Pretty woman, Aint talkin bout love, 5150, Runnin with the devil, and on, and on. Someone asked Eddie Van Halen to describe the band's music and he said "Its like Godzilla waking up". I like that.

Right?! That's one that often slips through the cracks of the mind. That's why I love threads like these.

Intro of simple guitar builds to a near-pitch-matching guttural scream from Zakk Wylde.

Then, of course, followed by a full four minutes of guitar wizardry.

This is a little different for an intro.

It is a voice intro a capella by late great Joe Cocker.

Seems like people were looking for more than a single chord intro, so here is one I always liked and it has been used a million times.

One most of you I suspect have never heard. This was the opening to what I consider Widespread Panic’s best studio album ‘Till the Medicine Takes’. The song is called Surprise Valley. I love the imagery in the lyrics… a small bird flying high enough can cast a valley in its shade. We all should strive to fly so high.

I read a lot about rock and roll. I’m a bit of an amateur rock/guitar historian. Eddie might have had a coke and drinking problem, but ego wasn’t a big issue with him. Even if he did have a big ego, he could back up his mouth/self- image .

I like country and had to add one of "those" songs. It mentions Micanopy, Fla which was a short drive over Paynes Prairie outside of Gainesville. There was a not so little Honky-tonk at swamps edge where some us would go to get our county/swamp music fix. Oh...lot's of really good looking girls in there too. Quite a bit different from the rock scene around the campus.
