A little tidbit of history I can't find. When did names appear on jerseys?

Yeah, it was funny. Now I'm going to hijack my own thread. I would like a roster that list numbers for the 1964 team, anyone have that?

Most of the big libraries in the big cities have actual copies of the media guides for every team in the NFL. I know Columbus Met does,....it would be a lot of work but you could look at the "years played" column off the Browns website and match it up with the jersey number rosters on the Internet -- they're out there somewhere. I had a kind librarian show me once,....also might be helpful to look at the 1965 Philadelphia Gum card -- you can see all of the numbers pretty clearly for the most part.

Without even looking, I want to say Johnny Brewer -- whom even I don't remember -- was # 83,....(it's on his football card,...)

If I only had one of his football cards. He was 83, by the way.

It's a cheapie, by card collecting standards,....maybe not easy to find, but it's no Jim Brown price-wise,....

When the AFL & NFL merged is when names were on NFL jerseys. The AFL had names on their jerseys the NFL didn't.. That was one of the agreements of the merger.

Thanks thats a cool tidbit to know. I won a blank jersey recently on ebay, and have been debating what number to put on it. Brewer is my family name, so seeing Johnny Brewer in the Big 3 thread, it was obvious what number to put on it. He went to the Pro Bowl in 67 so I might put the name on it.
