CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Arena Football League franchise announced today that the team will be called the “Cleveland Gladiators”. The team also introduced their new logo and its colors of red, black and silver.

The Gladiators, which announced its move to Northeast Ohio from Las Vegas in October, will kick off the 2008 season on Monday, March 3 against the New York Dragons at Quicken Loans Arena.

“It is an exciting day for Cleveland football,” said Gladiator part-owner, CEO and President Bernie Kosar. “The name ’Gladiators’ epitomizes what I felt like taking the field every Sunday. We have been building this the right way with a top quality coaching staff and players that will be proud to have "Cleveland" on their uniforms.”

“‘Gladiator’ represents an individual who sacrifices everything in the name of hard work – which is perfect for the city of Cleveland,” said Gladiators owner Jim Ferraro. “It’s also a familiar metaphor used for football players and for the fans who watch them play.”

The Gladiators will compete in the Eastern Division with the Columbus Destroyers, Dallas Desperados, New York Dragons and Philadelphia Soul. Cleveland will play its home games at Quicken Loans Arena with season tickets starting at $80. Deposits for 2008 season tickets can be made by calling (216) 298-6979 or by logging onto www.clevelandafl.com.

I was just checking out the team roster and a few names stuck out to me. I really do not know too many people in the AFL unless they have done something in the NFL.

K Josh Huston Our good buddy from OSU
WR Peter Warrick The former Bengal
WR Richard Alston The former Brown, I remember him for his opening kickoff runback against the Ravens in 04 on Sunday night.

I like that old logo better.

Interesting how they changed the large letter in it from a "G" to a "C."

I think it's pretty cool that we got a franchise, thanks for old #19.

Not sure how they couldn't come up with anything more creative or interesting, and why they waited weeks and months to announce they hadn't done squat with it?

I heard Bernie on the radio saying that it ended up being a legal thing that they had to keep the name, or maybe it was just easier for them to keep it, for at least a year.

Yeah, Im excited, sure its not the Browns, but I think it could be fun. I was actually thinking abuot getting season tickets, you can get the entire season for like $80 total at the cheapest.

it was hit brother, his teammate from kent, and Kendrick Mosely from the browns.

they were all invited to camp, and i am SURE kendrick will make it.
