I like it. Delpit is going to like it.
I also like that he is a former HC that Stefanski can bounce ideas/thoughts off of.

Was hoping for him or Flores. Good job … should be an improvement
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

This is probably a good hire. Like Milk said, Schwartz has HC experience and had success as DC. He is older and retired after Pederson was fired in Philly. I do think his scheme is the best fit for our current defensive roster. I understand that nickel and dime packages are run a lot more than they used to be, but you still play base defense.

Agreed. Like a few others I was hoping for Schwartz or Flores. There was talk about Flores getting interest as a potential HC so maybe that was a consideration? Or maybe it was Schwartz no matter what.
Onward.
How does a league celebrating its 100th season only recognize the 53 most recent championships?

That’s my only knock on Zegura. He’s such a cheerleader and mouth of the FO that it’s tough to believe him

the guy I hoped for.
1. Proven, good D.
2. D line is a big priority with him.
3. Former head coach so he can assist Stefanski and also just run the defensive side of the ball. If the worst happens and Stefanski is fired mid season next year, we have a replacement on staff and don't have to name Priefer or somebody as interim.
I also feel he has had his head coach gig and isn't on any short lists for a HC job, so the chances are good he will remain in the position for a while. I really didn't want anybody on the NFL fast track to a head coaching job and lose them in a year.

Good hire. I think he was the right guy for this team on the cusp. If we were in a rebuild and starting over, I would have preferred Flores to develop his defense and culture.

DoD...I agree, I like the hire too.
I was hoping the Browns would opt for proven talent rather than just someone new and unproven.

That’s my only knock on Zegura. He’s such a cheerleader and mouth of the FO that it’s tough to believe him I was listening to Mary Kay at nauseum In July Go blah blah blah Jacob Phillips is really going to be Elite this year blah blah blah Grant Delphit will be a top 5 S Because this the 3rd year they have in Joe Woods system. Results please not endless homerism.

Same here - with the addition that, of all the guys I read about (and I am not claiming to have read extensively) - Schwartz was the guy who I read somewhat consistently about how he planned for and schemed for specific opponents and neutralized what they did well. I love this hire. Hope it pans out. * Edit - is this confirmed or simply being reported?

I know you were on the Schwartz train as well.
You know how that works...it's being reported, but not official until the browns release the news.

Schwartz knows everybody if changes need to be made in defensive position coaches.
He knows where to turn.
I like the hire. We should be able to move quickly into free agency and the draft.
In addition the players we have should be able to transition quickly.

Glad the "search" is over and we've chosen our guy. When I heard we added Dennard Wilson to the list, I was worried things were going south and these guys were passing on us.
I had entered a relationship with Brian Flores as my man-crush-candidate, but I'm good with Schwartz. I hope he takes this defense by the reins and makes these dudes accountable. He's got more than enough experience in dealing with players and egos at all levels, so that has to be a huge plus.
Please, please, PLEASE do something to make QBs uncomfortable and our defense nastier.
It will be nice to have a defense not seemingly called by an algorithm. I honestly felt we could have plugged in a MS Surface Pro on the sideline and had the same or better results in 2022.

I think both Berry and Stefanski both know they won't be around past next year if we have another dud season. I don't think either of them wanted to put the D in experimental hands either. I won't say playoffs or bust, but it's nearly that. It will take something like winning 10-11 games and somehow not get in to the playoffs.

Glad the "search" is over and we've chosen our guy. When I heard we added Dennard Wilson to the list, I was worried things were going south and these guys were passing on us. But that's often what it all boils down to. We the public often see a list of candidates. It's easy to see when looking at that list who the experienced, best qualified and most sought after people are on that list. In the meantime while people are waiting for the hire to be announced, we watch the media bolster and puff up how great those lesser qualified candidates are. The fan base gets all worked up and buy into why these lesser candidates would be a fine option. So in the event the Browns have to settle for someone who really wasn't their first or second choice the fan base will still be pacified. In this case that is not the situation. They landed a highly qualified candidate. A very experienced man with a track record of having a good defense. Someone who actually helped win a SB at the exact same position he was hired for here. He runs a 4-3 base which should make the players fit better and the transition easier with less roster turnover. IMO they got the best guy on the list for the job. A guy who was one of the two best qualified guys on their list and considering he runs the 4-3, the best possible outcome. A great job done and accomplishment for Haslam and this FO.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Agreed. And we've had a bird's eye view to that in Cleveland... over and over again.
I was bracing myself incase it happened again, because the usual nightmare scenario (melodramatic, I know) was playing out just the way you said.

What are you going to do about it? Buy the team and fire everyone? Stop rooting for the team? Or whine and cry about it? No one is making any one of us root for the team. We all have the right to stop rooting for them. This isn't slavery. It's free will. Fact is that none of us have the authority to make demands.

It was a serious question. What can any of actually do if the team does not meet our expectations? I've been disgusted w/the team in the past. I contemplated not rooting for them. However, I understood I didn't have one ounce of power on what the team does or doesn't do. Issuing demanding proclamations about what needs to happen are pretty much meaningless.

Good, we need more man coverage Personally I think Ward, Newsome and Greedy (if he returns) are well suited to Man coverage. Not sure if PFF breaks down CB grades into man/zone rankings etc? But that'd be interesting to see if they did.

I amm OK with Schwartz. I probably would have gone with Flores, or maybe the guy from Seattle .... but Schwartz is OK.
