I think I cried more than the baby. It was a loooong exciting night parked in front of the TV. Due to idiotic visitor restrictions, we had to watch the delivery via Zoom meeting. They only allowed the father and maternal grandma in there, and there's no swapping of visitors the entire stay. It still was an amazing, emotional experience. I'm just so pumped with excitement I can't sleep.
And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.

Grandfather what a great word.
I feel like the most fortunate grandfather. My daughters boys have lived with me since their birth. In fact Oliver the youngest was born in my house.
I have played a big role in raising both of them.
So, I raised a daughter and and a son. When my son left home and started life on his own. My daughter moved back into my home and had two boys. It has been amazing. She works from home and is working on a Phd. So, I take a lot of chores off her large plate. And, I get to be a dad again basically; well at least a taxi and advisor.
Being a dad and now a grandfather has been the most rewarding part of my life. I would not trade a minute. I am super close to all four.
As a father life was busy to the max. Now as a grandfather life has slowed down and I really get the full view of life. What a blast.
Congratulations and keep in mind how lucky you are.

I always thought being a grandpa would be cool. I just never wanted the middle step that’s required to get there… kids of my own. I guess I’ve settled for being an uncle.

Being a grandpa is great! Raising children is something done out of love but can be a difficult task. Certainly great times of pride and joy but also times of having your patience tested and having to teach your children about life and responsibility. With grandchildren often they come to you and you certainly do help guide them but the hard lessons fall on the parents. So you get to simply enjoy them!

Thanks everyone. We all finally got some sleep. Baby Aaron Jackson (AJ), all 6lb 14oz of him, is doing well. Aaron is also my son's name and his grandpa (my dad) was named Jack.

Awesome news and congratulations. Being a grandparent is the best. My wife and I retired early and moved 70 miles to be closer to ours.

Ok, I took some time and learned Rock a Bye Baby, Hush Little Baby and Brahm's Lullaby on the guitar for my 2wk old grandson. They don't have any calming effect, but the songs that do quiet him are Crystal Ship by The Doors, Turn the Page and Stairway to Heaven. He's indifferent to the lullaby's and really got agitated with me playing Johnny Cash. Grandparenthood is awesome!

You need to learn "You are my Sunshine". Singing, even if you can't sing. When my daughter was young, after mom's maternity leave, it was me and Sooga, (wife worked nights then) 5 nights a week. Healthy or sick. Me, and Sooga. My terrible singing voice soothed her so, so many times. Always that song.
