Manhattan prosecutors have invited former President Donald Trump to appear before the grand jury investigating his alleged role in a hush money payment scheme and cover-up, a person familiar with the matter said, indicating the investigation is nearing a conclusion.

Potential defendants in New York are required by law to be notified and invited to appear before a grand jury weighing charges. It is unclear if Trump would appear.

The New York Times first reported the development.

Trump would be the first former president ever indicted and also the first major presidential candidate under indictment seeking office. He has said he “wouldn’t even think about leaving” the race if charged.

Trump is facing criminal inquiries related to his activities before, during and after his presidency.

In addition to the New York City investigation, Fulton County, Georgia, prosecutors have been probing the effort by Trump and his allies to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results, and a Justice Department special counsel is investigating Trump’s role in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, and Trump’s handling of classified material after he left office.

Trump’s lawyer recently met with the district attorney’s office, one source told CNN. His legal team has been concerned with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s intentions because of recently ramped up activity at the grand jury, according to another source familiar with the matter. Former Trump White House aides Hope Hicks and Kellyanne Conway recently appeared before the grand jury.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office declined to comment to CNN.

“The Manhattan District Attorney’s threat to indict President Trump is simply insane. For the past five years, the DA’s office has been on a Witch Hunt, investigating every aspect of President Trump’s life, and they’ve come up empty at every turn – and now this,” Trump’s spokesman said in a statement to CNN.

Yet another phone call pressuring yet another Georgia state official revealed.....

Fulton County investigators have another recording of a Trump phone call pressuring a Georgia official

Fulton County investigators have an audio recording of a phone call that former President Donald Trump made to the Georgia House speaker to push for a special session to overturn Democrat Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in the state, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Fulton County special grand jury, which investigated Trump’s actions in the state after the 2020 election, heard the recording of Trump’s call to David Ralston, according to five of the jurors who spoke anonymously to the AJC. A source confirmed to CNN the existence of the recording, which hasn’t been made public.

The recording adds to what’s known about the pressure campaign by Trump and his allies on Georgia officials. It’s the third audio recording of the former president’s phone calls to Georgia officials that is known to exist.

The special grand jury recently concluded its work and recommended multiple indictments, according to the foreperson who has spoken out publicly. Now it’s up to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to make charging decisions.

Ralston, who died last year, described his December 2020 call with Trump during an interview the following day.

Trump “would like a special session of the Georgia General Assembly,” Ralston said. “He’s been clear on that before, and he was clear on that in the phone conversation yesterday. You know I shared with him my belief that based on the understanding I have of Georgia law that it was going to be very much an uphill battle.”

According to the Georgia Constitution, not only can the governor convene a special session, the General Assembly can call itself into a special session, though that requires the signatures of 3/5 of the Georgia House.

Former US Sen. David Perdue, a staunch Trump ally from Georgia, also requested a special session be convened during a meeting in December 2020 at Truist Park, where the Atlanta Braves play. Gov. Brian Kemp, Perdue and former Sen. Kelly Loeffler, the state’s other US senator at the time, and their aides attended.

Perdue did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.

And Trump pressured Kemp in late 2020 to convene a special session to overturn Biden’s victory, and to order an audit of mail-in ballots. Kemp rejected Trump’s request for a special session, and said that he did not have the power to order a separate audit of mail-in ballots.

There is also a recording of Trump’s call to a top investigator with the Georgia secretary of state’s office in December, 2020, while they were looking into allegations of irregularities with signature-matching in Cobb County, in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

In that phone call, Trump urged the investigator to look for fraud in the 2020 presidential election, telling her that she would be “praised” for overturning results that were in favor of Biden. Audit results in Cobb County found no fraudulent ballots or wrongdoing.

The special grand jury investigation was launched by the Fulton County district attorney after audio was made public of an infamous hour-long phone call in which Trump pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” the exact number of votes needed to overturn Biden’s victory and suggested that he publicly announce that he “recalculated” the election results.

The Fulton County probe expanded beyond the Trump phone calls to include false claims of election fraud to state lawmakers, the fake elector scheme, efforts by unauthorized individuals to access voting machines in one Georgia county and threats and harassment against election workers.

The special grand jury met for roughly seven months in Atlanta and heard testimony from 75 witnesses, including some of Trump’s closest advisers from his final weeks in the White House.

Trump, who has launched his 2024 campaign for the White House, denies any criminal wrongdoing. He has claimed that Willis, a Democrat, is politically biased, and still regularly promotes the false claim that he actually won the election in Georgia.

Willis suggested in January that her decision on whether to bring charges is “imminent.”

No, the new news is that jurors heard MORE than just the Raffensburger recording. There was another just as incriminating. But I get it, if all you listen to is FOX, Brietbart, OANN and Newsmax, you won't get that info...., It's ok, your friends on here will do their best to keep you informed.

Law enforcement agencies are prepping for a possible Trump indictment as early as next week

Multiple agencies are discussing potential security plans for in and around the Manhattan Criminal Court in case Trump is charged in connection with an alleged hush money payment to Stormy Daniels.

Local, state and federal law enforcement and security agencies are preparing for the possibility that former President Donald Trump is indicted as early as next week, according to five senior officials familiar with the preparations.

Law enforcement agencies are conducting preliminary security assessments, the officials said, and are discussing potential security plans in and around the Manhattan Criminal Court, at 100 Centre Street, in case Trump is charged in connection with an alleged hush money payment to Stormy Daniels and travels to New York to face any charges.

The officials stress that the interagency conversations and planning are precautionary in nature because no charges have been filed.

The agencies involved include the NYPD, New York State Court Officers, the U.S. Secret Service, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the officials said.

NBC News has reached out to all of those agencies for comment, and all have declined to comment.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, pleaded guilty in 2018 to a federal charge relating to a $130,000 payment to Daniels, an adult film star, in the closing days of the 2016 campaign. Daniels has said the money was to keep her quiet about her claim that she’d slept with the married Trump in 2006, an allegation Trump denies.

Cohen has said that Trump ordered him to pay the hush money and that it was for the “principal purpose of influencing” the 2016 presidential election.

Cohen was later repaid the money he’d shelled out to Daniels through payments that were listed by Trump’s company as “legal fees.”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is investigating Trump for felony falsification of business records. Cohen testified before the grand jury hearing evidence in the case for a second time Wednesday.

I don't see this case as all that important in the grand scheme of things and may actually blow up in the prosecutors face if trump is actually indicted. I think the case in Georgia is far more critical.

But I'm glad law enforcement is taking it seriously. We saw the consequences before when they didn't.

Yeah, the original Teflon Don, John Gotti has nothing on trump in that aspect. But then again, in the end they got John Gotti. It was just a matter of time.

I'd say imminent arrest is new?

But don't let that stop the Trump is a Victim spin stop. I'm sure it's a witch hunt right?

And I see he's already called for violence... Ermmmm, called for his suppoelrters to fight for their country. What could go wrong? Last time he said that it all worked out so well.

Well... the media has been saying charges were coming against him for a few years now... he was impeached twice and nothing came from it...

If there are actually evidence of illegal activity then I hope he gets charged and convicted... but there better be enough to actually convict... because if he's charged but gets off, his base is going to have a field day...

Trump himself posted this morning that he's about to be arrested.

There's every chance he's lying... But any arrest of a former POtUS would be a first.

I think whether he is convicted or acquitted his base will never accept that this is anything but politics and a witch hunt. They don't want accountability no matter the facts or transgressions.

Dump trump expects to be arrested on Tuesday. Lol. He said so himself.

Hush money paid by his campaign called “legal fees” to a porn star to save his reputation. Lol … as if he had a reputation to save. Poor Donny will need to go to court and explain away and lie to a judge about his infidelity with a porn star and the hush money he paid her during a presidential campaign. His whole family should be very proud of him.

Thanks - I don't follow what he posts... also limit how much political news I watch.... so hadn't heard he actually thinks he's getting arrested... again, I'll believe it when I see and hope they'll have enough to make something stick... because I agree with the above that most of his base will think it's just a political move.

Deja vu all over again.

Post when there are charges.

In the meantime, put on some music and play a song. Anticipation is a good choice.

There will be no playoffs. Can’t play with who we have out there and compounding it with garbage playcalling and worse execution. We don’t have good skill players on offense period. Browns 20 - Bears 17.

Trump says he expects to be arrested on Tuesday, calls for protests

Former U.S. president claims information was leaked from Manhattan district attorney's office

Former U.S. President Donald Trump said he expects to be arrested on Tuesday in a case brought by the Manhattan district attorney's office, and called on his supporters to protest, according to a post on Truth Social on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the district attorney's office declined to comment.

Trump said, without providing evidence, that "illegal leaks" from the Manhattan district attorney's office indicated that he would be arrested. He did not say what the charges would be.

"Illegal leaks from a corrupt & highly political Manhattan district attorney's office ... indicate that, with no crime being able to be proven ... the far & away leading Republican candidate & former president of the United States of America, will be arrested on Tuesday of next week," Trump wrote.

"Protest, take our nation back!" Trump said.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office earlier this year began presenting evidence to a grand jury investigating a $130,000 US payment that Michael Cohen, Trump's former personal lawyer and fixer, made to porn star Stormy Daniels in the waning days of Trump's 2016 campaign.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, says she had an affair with Trump a decade earlier. Trump has denied the affair happened.

Trump was Republican president from 2017 to 2021 and has said he will make a bid to return to the White House in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

Bragg's office earlier this month invited Trump to testify before the grand jury probing the hush money payments, according to Trump's lawyer, Susan Necheles. Legal experts said that was a sign that an indictment was close.

Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to federal campaign finance violations tied to his arranging payments to Daniels and another woman, among other crimes. He has said Trump directed him to make the payments. The U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan did not charge Trump with a crime.

Cohen testified before the grand jury on Monday and again on Wednesday, according to his lawyer, Lanny Davis. Grand jury proceedings are not public.

Daniels's lawyer said she spoke with prosecutors last week.
Trump facing investigations

The probe is one of several legal woes Trump faces as he seeks the Republican nomination for the presidency.

Trump is also confronting a state-level criminal probe in Georgia over efforts to overturn the 2020 results in that state.

A special counsel named by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland is currently investigating Trump's handling of classified government documents after leaving office, as well s his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which he lost to President Joe Biden, a Democrat.

Bragg's office last year won the conviction of the Trump Organization on tax fraud charges. But Bragg declined to charge Trump himself with financial crimes related to his business practices, prompting two prosecutors who worked on the probe to resign.

Trump leads his early rivals for his party's nomination, holding the support of 43 per cent of Republicans in a February Reuters/Ipsos poll, compared with 31 per cent for his nearest rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has not yet announced his candidacy.

And of course if violence erupts after he stirs up his crowd, none of that will be his fault.

I get that and I think the MSM media does everyone a dis-service by relentlessly and continuously talking about Trump and his transgressions.

BUT - at the end of the day it shouldn't matter what his base thinks - it shouldn't matter what either side of the media says - it should simply be about holding him accountable to the same standard you want any other POTUS held to and every other politician and elected official. Certainly feels like many including members of this board don't want him held to the same a level of accountability as other politicians they revile (cough cough Hilary). Simple fact no matter how they want to try and spin it.

So true. So far, he has gotten away with Jan 6. Perhaps he thinks he will continue to get away with it. Of course, that may end up being true. I for one am getting tired of waiting for him to be charged for those crimes..

When you think about it, he's ruined a lot of lives with his lies and deceit. Tells them he didn't lose, they believe him, start riots and then when caught, they cry about it.

Look at all those that followed him and covered for him. Most are or have been to prison. Or maybe heading towards prison. All because they believed him and in him.

Modern media has become nothing but clickbait. They get a small morsal of information and jump to the end without allowing time for the process to play out. Just represents the impatience of today's society.

That is because the republicans controlled the senate and bent over to protect him becuase they didn't want the stigma of the only president to ever be removed from office being a republican.

The problem is that there are so many trumpians out there and it only takes one who would say trump is innocent regardless of the evidence to get on the jury.
