Funny thing is I had heard OTEP several times and never knew that was a female till somebody told me it was. On one CD that somebody has though thee are a couple spots where she does a real sweet sounding melody.
I like hard rock but this is wayy to hard for me.

I do too.....but more in the line of Zeppelin or a band like that.
As I said earlier...rock finally hit a generation gap. What I hear now isn't good.
I started in the days of Holley,Elvis, and Ricky Nelson. Moved on to the Beatles, Beach Boys, Monkeys, and Doors. Then Black Sabbath, Floyd and Skynerd....into the 80's with various acts.....up until around the early 90's or so....then it started to suck and other than stations that played oldies, country radio got all of my listening time.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

There is no way to argue with that!
The music scene hit a downslide in the 90s for sure man!
It will never be the same......I have changed my radio stations as well!

The music scene didn't hit a downslide, it just went away from what people were used to. This always happens given a long enough time period.
Quote: Eddie Vedder deserves mention, if only because every idiot with mediocre talent seems to emulate him these days.
I am not sure if that was directed at me or not because the You Tube I posted was of Aaron Lewis doing a cover of Black.
Even Eddie Vedder said Aaron Lewis sang it better than he did, but Aaron Lewis and Staind has never tried to emulate Vedder or Pearl Jam.
KING
No, it wasn't directed at you...and I didn't mean Staind...I'm not a particular fan of Staind but I feel they at least hold credibility...I was thinking along the lines of Nickelback or Creed or any of the other ninety bands that I think are all the same.
Ok wasnt sure, thanks, my feelings were hurt for a second
I kind of agree with you on the Nickleback, Creed thing. Though I do enjoy some of the Nickleback songs. I was kind of more thinking of all the Seattle ands that came out right after Pealr Jam hit it big. The Meat Puppets, Gin Blossoms and those type of bands.
KING
Meat Puppets formed in 1980 and had a huge national following before Pearl Jam hit it big. And they're from Arizona.
I'd have to give my vote to Freddie as well. He was a showman through and through.
Robert Plant Freddy Mercury Paul Rogers Mark Farner Ian Gillan Greg Lake Steve Tyler Rod Evans Rod Stewart Jim Morrison Steve Marriott Ian Ashbury David Gilmour David Byron Roger Daltrey
The list goes on and on!
If I had to hand it to only ONE.......it would be Robert Plant.
The vocals on Physical Graffiti are just awesome to say the least!
You know something funny, I can only recognize 5 names on that list.

HMMM I did not know that. I guess I was just kind of referring more to that Seattle grunge sound that became real popular after Pearl Jam hit it big. When the alternaive sound got popular is about when I heard the Meat Puppets.

They aren't really rockers but when I wa slittle I had a huge thing for one of the Bangles singers. The brown haired chick at about the 2:47 mark. Good god she was smoking back then!

When I think "Best Rock Vocalist", I tend to think about the Rockers that could write, sing, entertain, and play an instrument. Rockers also have to have the "it" quality which to me means that they have to be unique and extremely charismatic.
So here's my list:
Fred Mercury-Queen:This guy could do it all.
Michael Lee Aday (born Marvin Lee Aday)- Meat Loaf: Bat out of Hell is still one of the best selling records.
Trent Reznor-Nine Inch Nails: He has an extreme sense of music. He can write, produce, and sing. (He wrote Hurt which Johnny Cash later sang),
Kurt Cobain-Nirvana: This guy could write a hook. I can still remember when "Smells like Teen Spirit" charged onto MTV.

I was gonna say something about the Meat Puppets being around longer too, but someone beat me to it.. I think a lot of it comes from the Seattle grunge bands latching onto the Meat Puppets.. look at Nirvana's covers of Lake of Fire and Plateau.. and their unplugged show with a couple of Meat Puppet band members..

Quote: Kind of in the same vein, how about Janis Joplin??
Actually, Janis Joplin was a horrible singer. She never did much besides scream into the microphone..
And yet she still made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame....because she was a "horrible singer." I can think of a lot worse than what you mentioned.
"My opinions and feelings are mine and shall not be influenced by anyone....especially liberals."
That's not what the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about....artists don't get in there by sheer vocal talent alone...they are nominated based on the significance of their contributions to rock and roll....and Joplin fits that criteria quite well, because that's exactly what she did.

Yes,I know that.I'm a member of the rockhall and go there at least 5 to 7 times a year and I'm still learning a lot of things that I didn't know before about rock and roll and its origins. It's just that Janis is a great favorite of mine and I had to take a stand for her.BTW,she doesn't scream on all of her songs, just the ones they over play on all of the classic rock FM stations.
Burton Cummings certainly fits as a great rock and roll vocalist.I don't know why I didn't include him on my list. Also,Myles Goodwyn of April Wine has a real great singing voice as well.

Yup, he does. Women rockers: Nancy Wilson from Heart. Luba (probably not known in the U.S. but has more talent in her little finger than most female rockers), the woman in Scandal (McEnroe's wife).
Lots of singers; Plant, Daltrey, John Lennon, Steve Perry, Gillan.... My own fave is Rik Emmett. I don''t know how to post a Youtube video, but if anyone put up Emmett singing Fight the Good Fight live or Magic Power ('83 U.S. Festival), he'd blow anyone off the stage. One of the best guitarists in the world, too.
yessir! thats what made me think of both of those at the same time.
also...what about Lemmy from Motorhead? I mean...it may not be the best voice in the world, but for the life of me, i dunno how a guy could sing like that night after night.
I'm a fan

I wish I could find the lineup of the last concert video shotty posted. Quiet Riot played on that same card, because when I posted about Kevin Dubrows death the youtube video I posted was the same show.
Oh and for those who care it was released on Tuesday that Kevin Dubrow died of a cocaine overdose, he was dead for 6 days before anyone found him. He was a good vocalist as well.

I know what you mean. I was only a kid in the mid '70s, but I remember the first cassette tape I owned was one of Dion and the Belmonts, followed by Elvis, the Beach Boys, Ricky Nelson, and Jan & Dean. I've always been a bit retro in my tastes. I really love the sounds of the Eagles, Journey, Boston, Skynrd, Billy Joel. Even classic country like Cash, Hank Jr., Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and Waylon. I have to admit I love a lot of the hair bands like Bon Jovi, Poison, LA Guns, etc. Of current music, I like Daughtry and Nickelback, but not a lot of what's on radio. I, too, think the overall quality of music isn't that great.
Most times now, I either have the radio tuned to country or classic rock.
There may be people who have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do. -Derek Jeter
I seen him play and Metallica opened for him. He was a bit freaked by Metallica because they over taking his audience. this was when Metallica was old school and rocked, not the new version who gets help from that full house guy John Stamos on writing songs.
