‘Dead’ 49-Year-Old Woman Wakes Up on Her Way to Her Own Funeral
The grieving family members of a woman presumed to be dead were left shocked after she suddenly woke up on her way to her funeral in Thailand. Chataporn Sriphonla, 49, supposedly died on Thursday after returning home from the hospital, where she was being treated for cancer but “only had a slim chance at survival,” Sriphonla’s mom told The U.S. Sun. “We were heartbroken to find she had died,” the mother said. The family quickly prepared for her funeral, arranging for the 49-year-old to be cremated and buying a casket. But while in transit to a temple where Sriphonla’s body was going to be stored overnight before cremation, she opened her eyes and gasped awake. She was immediately rushed to the hospital and remains under medical care. The spooky incident parallels a similar one in Ecuador, where a ‘dead’ woman knocked on her coffin during her wake. Soon after, the 76-year-old died in the hospital.

Indiana Woman Arrested for DUI During Job Interview at Sheriff's Department, Authorities Say
An Indiana woman was arrested for driving under the influence after arriving at job interview with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, authorities said.
An Indiana woman was arrested at the Marshall County Sheriff's Department after she showed up for a job interview and smelled of alcohol, authorities said.
Nicole Sniadecki, 39, was charged with driving under the influence and released after posting $1,500 bail, the department said.
The woman arrived about 8:45 a.m. for a meeting at the sheriff's office related to her application for employment with the sheriff's office, authorities said.
While speaking with a captain, he noticed her speech was slurred and she smelled of alcohol, the department said.
Sniadecki acknowledged she had consumed alcohol that morning before driving to the sheriff's office, authorities said.
A breath test showed she had a blood alcohol content of .158, nearly twice the legal limit, the department said.
Her first court appearance is scheduled for July 18, according to online records.
Human waste leaking from truck causes crashes on Connecticut highway
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Human waste leaking from a tractor trailer on a Connecticut highway caused crashes including one involving two state police cruisers as vehicles spun out of control, authorities said.
No major injuries were reported in Monday night’s mayhem on Interstate 95 in Bridgeport. Troopers arrested the truck driver on several charges, alleging he knew there was a leak but kept driving.
The wrecks began shortly after 11 p.m. when the leaking waste caused extremely slick conditions in the northbound lanes, state police said.
A motorcycle rider lost control and fell onto the road, ending up in a hospital with minor injuries. Vehicles crashed into other vehicles and concrete barriers.
Another tractor trailer skidded into a parked state police cruiser, which then struck a second parked cruiser in the median. Both cruisers were unoccupied as troopers were helping others involved in wrecks.
State police reports indicate 10 vehicles were in accidents. The northbound lanes were closed for several hours during the cleanup.
Troopers said they found the driver after witnesses reported the company name seen on the truck. Authorities contacted the company, H.I. Stone & Son, which then called the driver and told him to pull over and wait for police, state police said.
The driver was charged with reckless driving, reckless endangerment and failing to secure a load. He posted $25,000 bail.
H.I. Stone & Son’s owner, Harry Stone, declined to comment Tuesday.

Two sisters and a 14-year-old boy who died at a Colorado campsite were trying to live "off the grid," but relied mainly on YouTube videos for survival knowledge, their relative said.
Rebecca Vance, 42, her 14-year-old son, and her 41-year-old sister Christina Vance were found partially mummified in the Gunnison National Forest after a hiker stumbled across their tent on July 9, authorities said on Tuesday.
They intended to live off the grid, and likely started camping in July 2022, Gunnison County Coroner Michael Barnes told The Colorado Sun.
But the sisters and the boy, who was not named by officials, had no survival experience and were relying on YouTube videos and online research, Trevala Jara, the Vances' stepsister, told The Washington Post.
A friend who successfully lives away from civilization also gave them tips on how to survive, Jara added, per the outlet.
Jara said she was worried for her sister and nephew, and offered to let them use her RV and a generator to practice living by themselves in the mountains. But they rejected the suggestion, and were confident that they were well prepared, Jara told The Post.
"I was absolutely scared and worried for them," she said, per outlet. "The last time they even went camping was when we were kids."
She said her sisters refused to tell their family where they would be staying, and added that Rebecca Vance had become distrustful of the media and "influences of the world," especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Christine Vance joined her sister and nephew thinking that they might have a better chance of survival if she came along, Jara said, per The Post.
"I don't want people to assume or think that they were crazy, because they weren't," Jara said. "If I can reach anybody who thinks they can go off the grid by watching YouTube or going on the internet, I would tell them to please think twice."
Barnes, the coroner, suspected the trio may have died due to starvation or extreme cold during last year's "significantly harsh winter." However, the official cause of death has not been determined.
He added that the family had "a lot of literature with them about outdoor survival and foraging," but appeared to be buying groceries from a store.
They had attempted to build a lean-to shelter — a simple, makeshift structure to rest in — but were not able to successfully complete the construction by winter.
Rapper arrested on a murder charge after allegedly writing a song and making a music video about the crime

LVMPD CNN — A Nevada rapper was arrested on a murder charge after Las Vegas police said he “confessed to the murder in his (song) lyrics.”
Kenjuan McDaniel was arrested August 29 on a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon, a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said. His bail was set Thursday at $1 million with electronic monitoring, according to court records.
CNN has reached out to McDaniel’s attorney for comment but has not heard back.
McDaniel had been considered a person of interest in the death of Randall Wallace on September 18, 2021, in part due to his connection to a vehicle that matched the description of one used during the crime, according to a redacted arrest warrant.
In July, a detective noticed a music video posted by McDaniel on YouTube and reviewed the lyrics and video, the warrant said.
“Detectives noted the music video bore a sufficient level of similarity to the details of the murder. This includes the fact, that Kenjuan confessed to the murder in his lyrics. … Details provided by Kenjuan in his music video were not released to the public and would not be common knowledge,” the warrant said.
One lyric included in the warrant is, “Parked the car, double back on feet, the smartest way to slide, drove in, double lock yo man, make sure you get yo bod’,” which the warrant states includes details of the killing that were not released to the public. In addition, it states that while McDaniel rapped in the video, he reenacted elements of the killing that were “consistent with evidence at the scene.”
“The facts gathered during the investigation were obtained separately from the music video. The music video further validated the results of the investigation,” it added.
McDaniel has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday.

Journalist Kirsten Drysdale tested the limits of legal baby names in Australia when she successfully named her newborn son “Methamphetamine Rules.” Drysdale works for What the FAQ, a TV show on Australia’s ABC network in which hosts answer perplexing questions submitted by viewers. When one viewer wanted to know what baby names parents could legally get away with, a heavily pregnant Drysdale decided to do the research herself. “We thought we would submit the most outrageous name we could think of, assuming it would be rejected,” she said, according to The Guardian. “But it didn’t turn out that way – unfortunately Methamphetamine Rules slipped through the cracks.” A spokesperson for New South Wales’ registry of births, deaths, and marriages conceded the oversight and said they would fix their verification process and allow Drysdale to change her baby’s name. The agency’s policies indicate that it rejects names that are offensive or not in the public interest as well as names that are over 50 characters long, contain symbols, or could be considered a title or rank like queen or king.

A woman in Michigan was rescued on Tuesday after getting stuck in an outhouse while trying to retrieve her Apple Watch, forcing police to remind people not to climb inside of toilets.
The incident happened about 11 a.m. inside an outhouse bathroom at Dixon Lake, Michigan State Police said Wednesday in a statement.
“The woman was heard yelling for help and told first responders she had dropped her Apple Watch in the toilet. She then lowered herself inside the toilet to retrieve it and could not get out,” state police said.
Conservation officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, troopers with the state police Gaylord Post and emergency medical personnel with Otsego County responded to the incident, state police said.
“The toilet was removed, and a strap was used to hoist the woman out to safety,” state police said.
The agency added that venturing inside an outhouse toilet is usually not a good idea and warned against it.
“If you lose an item in an outhouse toilet, do not attempt to venture inside the containment area. Serious injury may occur,” state police said.
This warning is only needed and intended for Michigan residents.

NASA astronaut Frank Rubio returned to Earth early yesterday, capping a yearlong stay aboard the International Space Station. At 371 days, Rubio's voyage is the longest single spaceflight by an American astronaut in NASA history.
Having initially launched last September, Rubio was scheduled to return in late March. Halfway through the mission, a stream of particles was observed emanating from the docked return craft. It was later determined a micrometeor—tiny space rocks traveling at average speeds of 22,000 mph—had punctured a 0.03-inch hole in the vehicle's cooling line. The incident required a replacement vessel to be sent to ISS, delaying the crew's return by six months. Rubio parachuted into Kazakhstan where he was immediately met by NASA officials, along with two Russian cosmonauts who endured the same tenure in space.
Emotional support alligator denied entrance to Phillies-Pirates game
A Phillies fan and his emotional support animal, an alligator named WallyGator, were denied entrance to watch Philadelphia host the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Social media posts showed the gator on a leash with a harness with his name on it outside the stadium Wednesday.
WallyGator is a working emotional support alligator owned by Joie Henney, of Jonestown, Pennsylvania. The reptile has a big presence on Instagram and TikTok.
Citizens Bank Park's policy on support animals is posted on the Phillies' official website. It states, "Guide dogs, service animals, or service animals in training are welcome. All other animals are prohibited."
Henney talked to CBS News last year and said his bond with Wally is "very special." Wally was found in a pond in Disney World, and since it's illegal in Florida to relocate alligators to another spot in the wild, Henney said he agreed to take him in.
Henney said he fell into a deep depression after losing some people close to him. Around the same time, Wally stepped up and became more affectionate, like he was sensing Henney's needs.
"I'd lay on the couch, and I'd wake up and he'd be laying on my head," Henney told CBS News. "And I knew it was for a long period of time because I had his whole jaw print on my face."
Henney said he started talking Wally everywhere, from the doctor's office to the drive-thru. He said his depression has improved, thanks to Wally.
"I'll get lonely and stuff like that and he seems to sense that stuff and he'll come up and he'll give me a hug," Henney said, adding that Wally "makes me feel loved."
The Phillies ended up winning on Wednesday, beating the Pirates 7-6.

Flu-Resistant Chickens
UK scientists have successfully used gene-editing technology to create chickens that have some resistance to avian flu, offering a potential solution to prevent future outbreaks.
A lethal version, H5N1, has been damaging poultry farms globally in recent years. Since February 2022, the avian flu has directly or indirectly killed over 58 million chickens and turkeys in the US, including recent outbreaks in Utah and South Dakota. As of July, 685 outbreaks have been reported globally.
The researchers used CRISPR technology to alter two amino acids in a chicken protein called ANP32A, which is critical for bird flu virus replication. They then edited chicken embryos to produce 10 chickens with the altered protein before exposing the chickens (and 10 nonedited chickens) to a virus strain—only one gene-edited chicken became infected, compared to all nonedited chickens. When subjected to a viral dose 1,000 times higher, half of the gene-edited chickens were infected but had lower virus levels in their airways.
Regulatory testing and approvals are necessary before gene-edited chickens can be considered for consumption, with an estimated timeline of about 20 years.

Locals in an evacuated zone of Iceland were allowed to re-enter their homes to collect basic necessities Thursday and Friday as officials warn that a volcanic eruption is likely imminent and earthquakes continue to rattle parts of the country.
The Rekjnanes Peninsula in the southwest part of the country has been shaken by thousands of tremors in the past days, and seismic activity has remained “constant” since Nov. 11, the Icelandic Meteorological Office said.
The town of Grindavik, about 35 miles from the capital Reykjavik, has turned into a scene reminiscent from a doomsday film with enormous cracks breaking concrete and the walls of homes, and steam rising from deep below the Earth. The quakes forced the closure of the popular tourist attraction Blue Lagoon hot spring in Grindavik on Nov. 10.
The town, home to 3,400 residents, was evacuated Saturday.
On Thursday, one person from each family from Grindavik was allowed to return to collect basic necessities, officials said. Earlier in the week, half the town was without power, but it has since been restored RÚV, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service reported.
Residents of 90 properties and local business owners who have been contacted by local authorities will be allowed to enter the “danger zone” in Grindavik Friday, as well. Residents were urged to retrieve only “very important items” such as pets, vital medicines, passports and other household essentials.
“Yesterday's operations went smoothly but it takes time to allow access for everyone and this will be an ongoing process throughout the next few days,” the police commissioner in Suðurnes said in a statement.
The southwestern town of Grindavik -- home to around 4,000 people -- was evacuated in the early hours of November 11 after magma shifting under the Earth's crust caused hundreds of earthquakes in what experts warned could be a precursor to a volcanic eruption.
Overnight Wednesday, 800 earthquakes were measured, most of them at a magma dyke at Sundhnúk at a depth of 3 to 5 kilometers (1.86 to 3.10 miles), the meteorological office said. Further, deformation (meaning changes in the shape of the surface of a volcanic landscape) measurements are “consistent with magma still flowing into the dyke,” it added.
Measurements of sulfur dioxide — which is released from a volcano when magma is near the surface — are showing “fluctuating degassing due to the magma dyke, but further measurements are needed for confirmation,” officials said.
“The probability of an eruption is still considered high. In the event of an eruption, the most likely location is at the magma dyke,” at Sundhnúk, the meteorological office said Wednesday.
Around 500 earthquakes have been detected around the dyke intrusion since midnight Friday, it said.
Models show a 15 kilometer, or 9.32 mile, magma intrusion located just northwest of Grindavik and it is estimated that “the intrusion is propagating upwards slowly, with magma thought to be 800 meters (half a mile) or higher, beneath the surface."
“The likelihood of a volcanic eruption is high, and an eruption can be possible on a timescale of just days," the meteorological office said.
Iceland is one of the most active volcanic hot spots in the world, as the island is located where two tectonic plates, the Eurasian and the North American plates, are slowly moving away from each other.
The movement along these plate boundaries frequently produces earthquakes, and as the planet’s crust pulls apart, magma can rise to the surface, triggering volcanic eruptions.
There are around 30 active volcano systems in the country, according to the meteorological office.
In 2010, a series of major eruptions at the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland produced an enormous ash cloud that blanketed the area, causing extensive air travel cancellations across Europe.

Mysterious homicide investigation underway after body parts found in freezer at recently sold home
The human remains were discovered at a home in Grand Junction.
Authorities are investigating a mysterious homicide after a human head and hands were found in a freezer at a recently sold Colorado home.
The discovery was made on Jan. 12 at a residence in Grand Junction, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to a call for a "suspicious incident" around 2:30 p.m. local time, the sheriff's office said.
People cleaning out the property discovered what they believed to be human remains, the sheriff's office said. They were found in a freezer, a sheriff's office spokesperson said.
An autopsy conducted by the Mesa County Coroner's Office this week confirmed that the remains were a human head and hands, the sheriff's office said Thursday.
"At this time, we have no other definitive answers until further testing can be completed," the Mesa County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "These types of tests take a significant amount of time, and again, we ask for patience from the public as this investigation continues."
The sheriff's office added that it hopes to "positively identify the victim while remaining respectful of the victim and the victim's family."
A sheriff's office spokesperson told ABC News on Friday that the investigation remains active and no further information is being released at this time.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident, and that there is no threat to the community.
