Are you effing kidding me?
This guy throws a one-hitter in game one of a double header. And then hits two bombs in game two?
I have been a baseball damn near my whole life. As a kid I grew up on Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron.
I have seen a lot of baseball. I have never seen a player like Shohei Ohtani.
Being a starting pitcher and throwing a hundred pitches takes a lot out of you. Pitchers need recovery time. Preparation for their next start is all about preservation. Pitching every five days for 6 months.
This guy pitches and then DH's the next day or in this case the same day. Then he goes and hits two dingers.
He has year to date 38 home runs and 80 RBI's. He is making $5.5 a year.
Next year he will make more than $50 a year. He will still be a bargain because he could win a Cy Young, MVP and lead all of baseball in HR's and RBI's. Verlander and Scherzer make $40 each. Verlander is 40 years old and Scherzer is 39.
Shohei is 29.
I don't know where he will play next year. But baseball fans are seeing maybe the best player to ever play the game.

He is a dandy for sure.
I don't think DHing takes a whole lot away from a pitchers recovery. He might have to run when on base, but as you know, running is a big part of what pitchers do between starts. Rather than running 8 or so foul poles, or halfs, make it 6. The long toss and final bullpen are all done earlier in the day. I might back a start up 1 day if he is slated to start a day game after a night game. Most starters don't like that. That's why many times a manager decides to make it a bullpen game.

When you DH there is prep work.
You take batting practice. Lots of swings and you do take fielding practice as a pitcher. You go over scouting reports.
Baseball is 162 games from April to October. It is an incredible grind both mentally and physically. You travel for 81 games.
His physical preparation and mental preparation is non-stop. It takes all you have. To perform at the level Shohei is.
I have the utmost respect for the man. I told my son that I think the Braves may go after him after this year when he becomes a free agent.
They are not the favorites to get him. But I think the chances are realistic.

he's such a stud. Angels shouldn't trade him (they said they won't), but he's gonna be so hard to sign long term

He is going to be the highest paid player and by a long shot.
Unless the Angels make a run in the playoffs. He will leave. He is 29. This will be his life contract coming up in 2024.
He wants to win. That is his primary goal. Frankly baseball fans deserve to see him in post season baseball.
No team in baseball is better positioned to win over the next 8 to 10 years than the Braves. Every position besides LF and DH is locked up long term. That includes the entire infield which all members were All Stars. Ronald Acuna is the best position player in the game today. He will win the MVP this year. He is 25. Michael Harris missed some time this year. Last year he won ROY. He is signed for 8 years.
Shohei with the Braves will make them WS favorites for years to come.

I know this won’t happen but I can dream. Guardians just overwhelm him, 10 years, $600,000,000. I know that would cost cheap Dolan huge. But the Guards would probably break the sellout record. Merchandise would explode. The media attention would be incredible. Dolan could probably double the value of the franchise.
And Ohtani and J Ram like each other.
Again it will never happen, but I can dream.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I know the Guardians will never pay him but there is something to the idea that he is is two players wrapped into one, a starting pitcher in your rotation and an everyday hitter. He plugs into two major slots any team would need and I think the Guardians could justify paying him. The issue is some team is going to give him a contract term until he's 50 (exaggeration, obviously) and at some point, he won't be worth it. That's my guess at least.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

The Dodgers are the favorites. The west coast has a heavy Asian population.
The Yankees and Mets have lots of money and will bid high. The Giants, Seattle, and San Diego are west coast teams.
The Braves will not get into a bidding war. They don't do that kind of thing.
However, if he will accept a little less and his priority is winning a World Series.
The Braves are his best chance to do that.

What is really weird is that after I told my fingers. My brain said they did it.
Then when I read it my brain puts the word there like it should be but it is not.
Ahhh aging is swell.

I have a sneaky feeling he ends up in Seattle. Definitely on the west coast somewhere.
