https://www.linkedin.com/news/story/inflation-accelerates-in-july-5437113/Inflation accelerates in July Share By Cate Chapman, Editor at LinkedIn News Updated 24 minutes ago A key inflation gauge picked up in July, suggesting the Federal Reserve may have further to go in raising interest rates to tamp down prices. The Personal Consumption Expenditures price index rose to an annual rate of 3.3% in July, from 3% in June. While that’s down from a peak of 7% last year, it’s still above the Fed’s target rate of 2%. The core index, excluding food and fuel prices, rose 4.2% from a year ago, after 4.1% in June. Thursday’s report also showed consumer spending rose a robust 0.8% in July. The Fed, which meets again on Sept. 20, raised its benchmark interest rate for an 11th time in July, to between 5.25% and 5.50%. New jobless claims fell by 4,000 to the lowest level in four weeks, as employers held on to workers.

Yes A TICK UP. it’s summer time and businesses need summer student workers who are demanding a decent wage to live in tourist areas. Typical.

It's gone down steadily for months now. Not a peep was said. Now for the first time in months it ticks slightly up and he thinks it's noteworthy. Funny how that works. Still waiting on his predicted recession.

https://www.linkedin.com/news/story/inflation-quickens-in-august-5473401/Inflation quickens in August Share By Cate Chapman, Editor at LinkedIn News Updated 44 minutes ago Prices rose faster overall in August, driven higher by a bump in fuel costs. The U.S. Consumer Price Index rose 3.7% on annual basis, quicker than July’s rate of 3.2% — and the 3.6% expected by economists. The increase was led by gasoline prices, which jumped 10.6% last month from July. When stripping out higher fuel and food costs, however, the gauge increased an annual 4.3%, slower than 4.7% in the prior month. On a monthly basis, core prices rose 0.3% compared with 0.2% in July, also faster than the 0.2% forecast. The Federal Reserve, which sets interest rates again next week, has raised its benchmark target 11 times since last March to rein in prices.

Where were you for all those months it kept continuing to go down? But hey, you found one month it started to rise so you could continue posting what you want to hear.

https://www.linkedin.com/news/story/poverty-level-spikes-as-aid-ends-5468529/Poverty level spikes as aid ends Share By Cate Chapman, Editor at LinkedIn News Updated 1 hour ago The poverty rate in the U.S. shot up to 12.4% last year, as high inflation and the winding down of pandemic aid overshadowed a strong labor market. The jump, from 7.8%, is the largest on Census Bureau records beginning in the 1960s. It follows two years of declines amid federal stimulus checks, enhanced unemployment benefits and the child tax credit — all of which expired. The child poverty rate also soared, rising by more than double in 2022. The share of Americans without health insurance fell to a record low 7.9%, however, as Medicaid terminations remained frozen. Median income, adjusted for inflation, declined 2.3%, to $74,580. The poverty level last year was defined as $13,590 for individuals and $23,030 for a family of three. The poverty rate is based on the Supplemental Policy Measure factoring in geographical differences in the cost of living, as well as the impact of government aid. Income gains for the lowest-earning fifth of households rose an adjusted 4.3% as employers competed for workers, especially in industries such as hospitality and retail. Scammers may have stolen as much as $1 out of every $7 of pandemic unemployment aid, said a new report out Tuesday from the Government Accountability Office.

Those "hand outs"? Most states ended supplemental unemployment benefits in June of 2021. The last Covid stimulus check was in March 2021. You obviously haven't been keeping up. Nobody has been "handing out money" to anyone for well over two years now. Inflation slowed for 12 straight months. Now after 2 months of slight increases you claim the shy is falling again. Hilarious!

Don’t forget the Covid is Back and they are going to lock us down again GOPer meme in this crap hole of a thread. So funny watching them try to destroy all the GREAT things Biden and dems accomplish while trying to cherish the criminal who leads them. It’s like watching square pegs shoved in round holes at the short bus academy. Smh, I’d like to buy them a clue, but all the money in the world couldn’t fix the ‘dupe’ brainwashing Trump has laid on them. It’s just a sad time in our history, and a strong indicator that the short term future will not be better, but much much worse. We seriously need re-education camps in Red States.

Those "hand outs"? Most states ended supplemental unemployment benefits in June of 2021. Inflation slowed for 12 straight months. Now after 2 months of slight increases you claim the shy is falling again. Hilarious! Student payments start again in a few weeks. The average American monthly student loan payment is about $503 a month and there are about 43 million who have student loans so we will be instantly removing about 21,630,000,000 a month out of the "economy". Ironically... I just saw this... they are giving out cash in other ways. Stimulus Payments Coming to These States in September 2023 https://finance.yahoo.com/news/stimulus-payments-coming-states-september-164831485.htmlAlabama According to Money, Alabama will be issuing a one-time tax rebate in November. Single persons can expect a $150 windfall, and married couples $300. Minnesota The state began rolling out a one-time tax rebate in mid-August, though some qualifying individuals or couples may have to contact the Minnesota Department of Revenue if they haven’t seen it yet. The tax rebate is quite sizable, as well — up to $1,300 Montana Residents could qualify for a property tax rebate of up to $675 and/or an income tax rebate equal to the lesser of $2,500 for joint filers New Mexico Married couples who file jointly, as well as heads of households and surviving spouses, can expect a $1,000 income tax rebate. Single filers and married persons filing individually are also eligible for a $500 rebate. Washington State The state’s Department of Revenue website makes it clear that eligible families and individuals can count on up to $1,200 in tax credits

So you're trying to claim that "tax rebates and credits", even in a conservative state like Alabama are "Covid hand outs"? Man have you gone over the edge.
And here I though people of your ilk favored decreasing taxes. I guess not when you try to weaponize them as something they're not.

Saying Ukraine can go pound salt is awfully short-sighted, nevermind the human and atrocity element.
If you talk about where funds should come from, that’s another discussion, but quite honestly, we should reapportion our DoD funding to account for Ukraine fighting the Russians since they are essentially accomplishing what a vast portion of our Defense funding is meant to do.
It also doesn’t account for the fact that we will be spending more long-term if Russia does overtake Ukraine.

We are not the world's police and have to stop being that. A lot of those on military disability can still work. And do. I know several. You’re right. Military disability is graded on percentage of disability. And the disability must be service connected. And there are no restrictions like welfare on working, because any country worth it’s salt wants highly trained vets in the workforce. Are you jealous because their sacrifice gets them a monthly pittance? GOPers love to say we support the troops or our vets… But cry about everything done for them. Disgusting.

$4,000 a month isn't a pittance. Plus basically free health care, almost no property tax.
Here's what I know of the people I know: 1 hurt her back falling off a pickup truck. Another 'needs' a hip replacement. A few claim the 'mental' thing. Yet their fine.
I have absolutely NO problem helping those that need it.

Do you have even a remote clue of how vital Ukraine is strategically? Do you know how much food they produce? Do you realize they are a democracy because we helped them get there? And you would abandon them to Putin, a would be Hitler? If you ever served, I doubt you’d feel like that. Trump can cower all he wants to Putin, but Putin is a pimple on the sphincter of the world, nothing more. His nukes MAY be a threat to the US, but that is the only threat he poses us.
And you’re right, we don’t need to be the world police, but we do need to stand against the bullies, dictators, and autocrats. Before Trump, republicans understood this. Preached this. Now everything they say is counter intuitive like they want to hand the world over to strongmen dictators and fascists. Your ilk needs some serious reflection time.

I don’t think you know how appropriations work and where money can go. There is a lot of waste in the defense budget that should go to Ukraine which was my point. It’s not about being the world’s police. Invading a country that we think is doing wrong is the world’s police. Backing a country who is fighting one of our top two adversaries that we already spend a buttload of money on to stay ahead of and deter is quite a valid interest for us. If Russia makes it to Poland and Hungary’s border, we will be diverting a lot more monetary assets toward combating them in the long term. Poland because they’re our friend and Hungary because they would completely flip under Orban. That would be menacing to both Europe and us. I, for the life of me, don’t understand how people don’t get it, unless they’re falling prey to the far right rhetoric.

Sure... They produce a lot of gains etc for Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa and they have a technology sector there. Again... Europe/Aisa/Middle East/ Africa would have taken care of it if we didn't have to get involved. We could have waited to see what actually happened. Which, is basically not much of anything now. Putin would never be a Hitler. He's a douche but, he would never get further than Ukraine. His military is already basically beaten and the result would have been the say if we stayed out of it. A very large part of my family served. I did not. Ukraine is not a democracy - they are semi-republic with a multi-party system

back on topic... https://www.linkedin.com/news/story/baby-boomer-homelessness-rising-5762196/Baby-boomer homelessness rising Share By Emma W. Thorne, Editor at LinkedIn News Updated 4 hours ago Baby boomers are now the fastest-growing group of homeless Americans, in a mounting crisis the country hasn't seen since the Great Depression. People over age 55 accounted for 19.8% of shelter residents in 2021, per government data; in the years since, major metro areas like Miami and Denver have seen huge increases. Though more and more boomers became homeless due to a major life event, like the death of a spouse, the biggest single reason seems to be the skyrocketing cost of housing, which often far outstrips older Americans' monthly Social Security checks. The overall poverty level in the U.S. surged to more than 12% last year, amid high inflation and the end of many pandemic aid programs. New inflation data from the government estimates Social Security recipients will see an additional $57 in their monthly checks next year.

j/c... I don't think Americans are buying the "everything is alright now" narrative. Hell, they probably can't afford to buy that when they're struggling with peanut butter and jelly. More in U.S. Say Inflation Is Causing Financial Hardship* 61% say recent price increases have caused financial hardship, up from 55% * 15% say hardship is severe; 46% say moderate * More mention inflation as most important financial problem than any other Bottom Line Even as inflation has been cooling, the effect of continued high prices has broadened the financial pain Americans are feeling. A record-high 61% of Americans say rising prices are causing hardship for their household, and inflation remains their top financial problem, with more than three times as many mentions as any other problem. The increases in these readings suggest that the recent slowing of inflation has so far done little to provide relief for Americans, and it may take more dramatic changes in prices for the harmful effects of inflation to subside. The public lacks confidence in economic leaders to tackle the problem.

Disgusting. They do cry about everything including Healthcare for Vets. Every Republican I know wants teachers/police/fire/military to get more money for the work they do. not less. 1, elected republicans clearly don't feel that way 2, whenever raising wages comes up, the republicans argue that it will cause a big mac to cost $14 1. I didn't know that 2. The cost of one big mac meal in 2019 has gone from $5.99 to $8.64 today. (4 years) that is insane and 40% increase in the last 10 years. Low wage jobs should be entry points to the workforce. People are trying to male them lifelong jobs.
Blocking those who argue to argue, eliminates the argument.

It's gone down steadily for months now. Not a peep was said. Now for the first time in months it ticks slightly up and he thinks it's noteworthy. Funny how that works. Still waiting on his predicted recession. I hope it jumps 10 percent or 20 percent before the COLA's kick in for us old folks.
I AM ALWAYS RIGHT... except when I am wrong.

If you don't understand how poor our nations infrastructure has become and that this is the largest infrastructure bill since the Eisenhower administration, you're byond help. Urgency rising to fix nation's crumbling bridges https://www.cbsnews.com/news/urgency-rising-to-fix-nations-crumbling-bridges/And that's just one example. If you don't understand how much we're weakening one of our top two major enemies in Ukraine without losing the life of a single U.S. troop at a fraction of the cost it would take us to fight such a war ourselves your're beyond help. Your mind set is the same one people had when Hitler almost conquered the world.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Your mind set is the same one people had when Hitler almost conquered the world. Typical... bring up Hitler every time someone doesn't agree with you.
