Well since the only reason they wanted an impeachment inquiry was to have access to his taxes… Am I missing something other than GOPer lies because they already have that access. I mean if I didn’t know better I would say this is a sham inquiry made up to make Biden look criminally dirty, like Trump.

So I think it's very safe to say, Republicans in the house are doing this to give Trump a victory of sorts. ...but what evidence do you have? Sometimes there is no evidence because that thing didn't happen. Sometimes there is no evidence because people are good at hiding and/or getting rid of it. Trump wasn't very good at the latter. Most that last in politics are. Or at least they are more adept at not leaving evidence in the first place. Absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence. I'm not stating an opinion on Biden just pointing out that asking, "where's the evidence?" isn't the most conclusive argument. Smart criminals (again not saying Biden is one in this context) know to avoid leaving evidence. Even "dumb" criminals know this, they just aren't as successful. I'm not sure if the Republicans "are doing this to give Trump a victory of sorts" or if they are doing this to try to save themselves. Spread enough dirt around and they can blend right in. I tend to lean towards the latter. Yet, they could see giving Trump a victory as assisting their self-preservation. I feel like they'd gladly burn Trump at the stake if they thought it wouldn't lose them votes, though. You could very well be right. Bleh, what a mess. ("what a mess" is a stand-in for a long string of profanity followed by Trump... or Republicans... or politicians in general.)

You sound like the House GOP impeachment panel. "Well we can't find it but it must have been there before it was all destroyed!"

It's also way to cast doubt and cloud a person's reputation and character with nothing of substance at all to base it on. Evidence should be the base line with which to do that and not the lack of evidence.

I'm not talking about the act of impeachment, but the conversation surrounding it.

I for one would hope such conversations would be grounded in reality and not some unsubstantiated possibilities.

Odid, I thought Biden made all his and his wife’s taxes public before the election. That should have covered that timeframe. Or I seem to remember it that way, but did not verify the details. They are public. I don’t know if they were audited to verify the sources and each line item scrutinized. Well to be fair, you wouldn't put your bribe income on your tax returns...:)

I for one would hope such conversations would be grounded in reality and not some unsubstantiated possibilities. This started out with me pointing out things that are presented as realities that are really only possibilities. I have trouble with trust and belief. Others have so much belief that they treat it as certainty. I prefer certainty to be reserved for things that actually are certain.

Plus, let us not forget HISTORY- these current GOPs don't want to remember VP Cheney and his Halliburton contacts- non-competitive which were worth FIVE BILLON dollars at LEAST for Iraqi contractors. And, GOP went into Iraqi lying about WMD- these guys have a long history of LAW and ORDER----NOT.

I sure regret all the years I voted republican. I know it was all pre Trump, but I’m embarrassed I ever had anything to do with them. Party of idiots.

I just think it should be applied to both sides of the aisle. It's human nature to cut slack to people in groups one associates with and judge those from groups one doesn't associate with (or worse that "opposes" a group one associates one's self with) more harshly. I'm a loner (whether by nature, upbringing, or environment is unclear) and judge both harshly (I try for objectively, but human nature being what it is...) as I don't associate myself with either. An unfortunate side effect of not associating with a group is at one point or another you get judged harshly by both of them which reinforces the loner mentality. Yay, me!

I don't actually disagree with you. The problem being I haven't see anything that even resembles there being anything the other side has said or done that quite compares. Things like continuing to spread the lies about a stolen election to the point that created Jan. 6th. Even after losing over 60 court cases, the SCOTUS, which he himself made three appointments to, refusing to hear such cases twice. Lies that even caused Fox NEWS to be forced to pay an a $787.5 million dollar lawsuit. And even knowing all of that, continues to fuel the hatred and division to this very day full well knowing the type of consequences it has produced. Calling for the execution of Mark Milley. I could go on and one with examples but then again you already know that.
If you think I'm going to make excuses for the actions of the other side, I'm not. I call for accountability from them as well when the circumstances dictate. Yet at the same time I'm not going to make a false comparison between the two given the evidence at hand.

It's not the actions I'm comparing. It's the logic.
Addendum: Or perhaps I'm more making the "comparisons" in response to the bad/questionable logic. I'm not defending any actions. But when bad logic is used, I'm making a comparison that makes the logical inconsistency more apparent.
You seem focused on the actions. I'm pointing out flaws in arguments. Bad arguments get used in other places than just these specific incidents, and I feel letting it go unmentioned sets bad precedents.
We've got enough of those to try to overcome without adding to the pile.

For at least some of us the logic is based on the actions. At least at this point in time.
