Some things I view as extremist. But for the most part they are the outliers. Some things not so much. I find standing against Nazi's as patriotic and something that should never be considered political. But for some reason they seem to only support one party of American politics. And that's the most extreme portion of that party.

He only did the interview because she threw them under the bus claiming "they just showed up and I had nothing to do with that" (paraphrased) and he wanted to set the record straight. And you really think they hide who they are well? I guess you must have missed Jan. 6th and Nazi protests. It seems they take pride in it, not hide from it.

Embattled Rep. George Santos hit with additional charges, including identity theft

Prosecutors said Santos claimed he made nonexistent loans to his campaign while making unauthorized charges on donors' credit cards.

So the republicans had a secret vote, which I’m guessing was for the purpose of names not being dropped when they nominated Scalise.

This crap is pathetic. But at least it ain’t Gym Jordan.

You say that, but that's what MTG's and Boebert's are pushing for (Gymmy J).

And to think that Scalise won the nomination by such a slim margin means anything either way is it pertains to the end result is not something I'm not willing to put any stock into.

My view is that this is a two-hurdle approach. Step 1, they have to choose a Speaker. If they can manage to accomplish that, they still have to overcome the whole passing the budget issue, which was absolutely going to result in a shutdown the first time around before McCarthy reached across the aisle. If it is Scalise, I don't know what his plans are to overcome that dilemma. If he pulls a McCarthy, he'll be crucified like McCarthy. If he doesn't, he won't be able to pass a budget. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out because they have a little over a month to leap over both of those hurdles.

I'm also looking at it even further on down the road in a very possible scenario. Republicans hold the house by a very small margin. All of this infighting and dysfunction is placing a huge negative light on their ability to govern. This could cause control of the house to be turned over to the democrats in the 2024 election.

So the bigger question for me is this. We saw how easily the extremist wing of the republican party used a small number of its members to control things. How they held the vast majority in the republican members of the House hostage and used it to gain extremist concessions. Now that the book has been written on how to do this, will the Squad and the left wing extremists use this same strategy against the democrats if they gain control of the House?

Yeah I agree. TBD I suppose. It'll depend probably on how much of a majority the Democrats would theoretically have in that case. They do seem to have a history of playing nicer on that side of the aisle when it comes to passing legislation and definitely when it comes to the Speakership, but who knows how things will change.

GOP's Scalise ends his bid to become House speaker after failing to secure the votes to win gavel

https://www.yahoo.com/news/nominated-house-speaker-steve-scalise-042252544.html

Not even the military industrial complex gains in the future can’t get the republicans on the same page. We must truly be in the end times.

That’s how government should work. We need each other to govern. It’s about time the Goper’s come to their senses and start cooperating with the rest of the country and do their jobs we elected them to do.

It seems like the only thing that brings us all together is when we’re attacked by another country. It’s to a point where I’ve come to the conclusion humanity is doomed unless we’re attacked by aliens from outer space.

depends, i could see some moderate republicans voting for Jeffries simply out of spite.

They'd have to have no plans on running for reelection, which I suppose could be possible. It would definitely make them go the way of Cheney/Kinzinger/all the Republicans that voted to impeach Trump.

I listened to David Jolly on MSNBC say he would like to go back to Washington, but as a democrat. Many of the centrist GOPers seem to be good with being dems now because the center has been dragged so far right. I enjoy laughing at what Republicans have become, but I’m concerned about the left being watered down with their castoffs. That is nothing against Jolly, as I think he’s a decent man and all, it’s just that we need a progressive government, not a GOPer light government.

well, what's true right now is that Jeffries has more votes for speaker than any republican candidate. he's got 212, so what, 7 rebels from the GOP and he's the speaker?

So is anyone here claiming that the 212 members of the House democrats are voting for Jordan? I'm not confused on the numbers. I'm confused that anyone believes Jordan will get 212 votes from the democrats.

good lord,

the dems are ALWAYS gonna vote no for jim jordan, we know this. but the dems have and will vote for Jeffries, which equals 212. with a bipartisan negotiation or coalition, they could get 5 republicans to vote for jeffries to Speaker.

just the math says it's easier to get Jeffries elected than any republican.

While I don't think that could possibly happen I do understand what you're saying. The five Republicans it would take to do that would be committing political suicide. It would not only destroy their political careers it would have a big negative impact on their professional life after politics.

Well the speaker pro temp would have to allow that vote, so unless there is a deal in place of some sort, it will never come up. But dems keep dangling it hoping GOPers will take the bait.

You might just get 5 or 6 that see the writing on the wall for the republican party. Maybe they'll decide to hang it up or just become independents that caucus with Dems or just leave the republican party all together and go Dem.

I also don't think Jordan can get the votes without giving it away like McCarthy did.

What's the deal when someone doesn't show up for the speaker vote or if they vote present?
Seems that somehow that decreases the number of votes needed to be elected speaker.

I think you still need a majority “yes” vote. In the case of McCarthy, had the Dems voted “present” then the Republicans would not have had a majority vote of no confidence. But the Dems voted to oust McCarthy which again gave a majority. Hopefully the way I phrased that makes sense.
