The vote of present changes the math somehow. Not sure exactly though.

I think you need a majority of those that vote yay or nay
So 2 vote of present decreases the number needed to elect a Speaker by 1
But again, I have absolutely zero confidence that that is accurate and correct

Am I perfect? No
Am I trying to be a better person?

I believe Jim Jordon will be terrible as a speaker. He is too extreme and doesn’t have the temperament for the job.

I believe you are correct on both counts and he has already made that plainly evident.

No question, it's a uphill climb. And like you, I think it's unlikely/impossible.

If Jordan gets the Speakership I fear I may not work from November 17th until the next election cycle, lol.

I would agree with you. I find anything a Jordon led House agrees on with him an charge would ever get past the senate.

Did Jordan ever pass the bar? Is he actually fit? He could die before his term is up.

The fact you Dems hate Jim Jordan so much speaks volumes. He has been a great asset to his area in Ohio for many many years. He was great in the state house and he has done a great job in congress. I hope he wins the gavel.

You’ve lost your mind.

Tell me one policy he actually has succeeded on at the federal level, besides demonizing. What has he actually brought home to his district?

His district looks like a freaking sea horse. Textbook gerrymandering. Google image it.

He denied the validity of the 2020 election.

He looked the other way on the abuse situation at Ohio State. For crying out loud, the guy refused to cooperate with an official investigation.

His statements about his communication with the former President on January 6th should send up red flags to anyone with an open mind.

He refuses to honor subpoenas issued to him regarding January 6, yet sent them out and is adamant at interfering with a state indictment. You know, “states rights!” I guess unless that state does something you don’t like.

Shall I go on?

He is Exhibit A as to why people like me have left the Republican Party. If he sniffs that Speakership seat, the R’s will continue to take L’s in future elections. He is a prime example of how they are holding onto seats by gerrymandering, but keep losing in overall popularity. He is prime example number one of just how badly my former party needs a renaissance.

One other thing, I have fairly conservative views on the issues, and people in the legislature who call themselves conservatives are anything but these days. I also don’t think that Pit is a “Dem” but, on the flip side, there are people on this board who are more to the right of me, that I very much respect, when it comes to politicians who have already spoken ill of the prospect of Jim Jordan becoming speaker. It’s not just the “Dems” of which I don’t think Pit actually is one, that think he has no place getting close to that gavel. I bet/hope the vote will reveal that same notion.

The guy is a self-serving, opportunistic scumbag.

Your response to all the facts 05 just dropped is exactly why people openly laugh and mock Republican voters.

I don't agree with any of your points. I live in his district, and he has done great things here for a long time and represents are values well.

Jim Jordan introduced HR 8517 Protect Speech Act and HR 1138 to attempt to keep the Supreme court justices of US at 9.

Only missed 2.1% of votes in Congress over his career.

His voting record ranks as one of the most conservative members of congress as noted by the American Conservative Union. Actually, a perfect score.

Is a founding member of the Freedom Caucus.

Fights for life and is endorsed by Ohio Right to life. Fights for traditional family values.

When working in the statehouse of Ohio kept the Lima Ohio Tank Plant open when then Governor Taft a Republican wanted to close the doors. They make the M1 Abrams tank and are still open today.

Also fought Governor Taft to keep the Lima Corrections facilty open. Again that prison is still open today.

Has opposed many bills introduced by Obama and Biden. That is huge!!! Need to fight communism at all levels.

And there you have it. Want to help the poor? You must be a communist! Want to help the worker? You must be a communist! Want to keep religion out of public schools so children don't have religion crammed down their throats? You must be a communist!

I don't see any actual accomplishments on that list as far as what he's done at the federal level. I suppose you could go with "fight for" perhaps, but his legislations have failed to catch on.

I think I'm also unclear what fight over the tank plant you are referring to. Most Ohio politicians I know of want to keep that plant open for obvious reasons. General Dynamics wants to keep it open, too, for their own political, defense contractor-type reasons. Oddly enough, we hardly have a need for more tanks ourselves, but Ukraine can sure use them. Jordan doesn't want to aid Ukraine, though...

From my perspective, I see him spending a lot of time and energy looking into an investigation by another state into a former president. I see him also as an adamant Trump supporter and an election denier. I'm not exactly sure how his time spent on those fronts really serves his district.

I really don't get the communist angle, either, except for its dog-whistle usage. I doubt you considered FDR to be a communist, but his policies were much more on that side of the spectrum as compared to Obama and Biden. Also, if you look at the tax brackets back when people like Eisenower were president, the far right today would look at him like Lenin reborn.

You can also add... Was in person to person communication with Donald Trump on January 6, 2021, and was part of the GOP efforts in the House of Representatives to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

That is why he is totally inappropriate to lead the House. He is nothing more than a partisan hack.

So basically his biggest accomplishment is being a vocal advocate for saying no to everything? And that’s what has you going hard in the paint for this guy?

I’m never gonna understand Republican voters happiness with their leaders inability to get anything accomplished, as well as their effectiveness at stopping anyone else from accomplishing anything.

Cheerleading dysfunction is crazy.

Hold on,

Jordan has never taken the bar exam? So the clown went to school yet never even bothered to be licensed?

And while obviously not a requirement to be a member of congress, the way people talk about this dude had me assuming he was a top notch no nonsense lawyer before being elected.

So his biggest accomplishment is being in academia (which conservatives claim to hate) and coming in during the rise of the tea party, claiming that Obama was a foreign born Muslim.

To be fair, I don't know what HR 8517 is all about,, so I can't comment.

Missing only 2.1% of the votes is pretty good.

Founding the Freedom Caucus is probably the MOST DAMNING thing you can say about him.... These guys want an end to every single social program that Americans rely on. They lie,, They say, hey, we got something better, but they can never spell it out. Thats a sign that they got nothing.,

Fights for LIfe: yeah, but taking away the rights of Americans. Brilliant. Endorsed by Ohio Right To LIfe.. How about getting endorsed by the Freedom of Choice people.... People that want you to have a choice instead of some old white guy telling you what you can and can't do. Totally unamerican.

He took credit for saving the Tank Plant, but he did NOTHING of note to save it.

Merely opposing Biden and Obama doesn't make him good. It makes him a guy that gets politics.

As for the communism comments, you clearly don't understand communism. You think Obama and Biden are communists apparently.. You could not be further from the Truth.,

Look around, who is siding with Putin.....Biden? Obama? Democrats? NOOOOOOOO REPUBLICANS ARE. they want what Putin has, total control to run rough over us.

If thats what you want, move to Russia.

Yes. Total POS. And it’s hilarious. I hope they elect him speaker. It will probably finish their party. He’ll move forward hard with Trumps lies and agenda to destroy America from within. And dems will call it all out until 24. In 24, they will lose the house, the Senate and the white house for the next 12 years or more. All because of Jim Jordan and Donald Trump, because they are too stupid to realize the world hates those men. Told y’all, popcorn time. I fear the funding measures for the government, Ukraine, and Israel will suffer if he’s speaker. But the Senate GOPers have already said they are done with the Trumpian BS and ready to lead, while Dems will never let that agenda fly. So Jordan will be nothing more than a nightly sound bite and a highly mocked speaker, worse than McCarthy. Jordan and MGT are basically the same numbskull idiots in different wrappers.

Yup.
That's pretty much his only bona fides.
Sadly, that's all we seem to require from "our elected leaders," these days- and all they need to become household names in the news cycle.

Bro- this jughead hails from my home town's district. Even though I moved away decades ago, I still keep in touch with what's going on on my home turf. I've been knowing about him for years.
Were it not for Ohio's obscenely gerrymandered electoral maps, this unworthy doofus would have never been part of America's daily discourse.

I'm going to say his biggest accomplishment was not being molested by Richard Strauss.

Well Jim Jordan does want to gift Ukraine to Putin by cutting off arms supplies from the U.S. And obviously since he thinks our president is a communist he not only doesn't support the U.S., he's anti American.

Thank god the woman survived.

Morning Joe had a really good idea on how to neuter the Jordans/Gaetz and MTG of the world this morning.

Have the R's that don't want to vote for Jordan, (I heard there were 55 and now under 10) to go to Jeffries and either nominate him or if you can't have a D as the speaker of the house-go and bring in somebody like Liz Cheney or somebody else that isn't a maga and work with the Dems and nominate them and elect them to throw it in their face.

And yes, if republican members vote for a Liz Cheney or Hakeem, they are going to get mean tweets and hannity is going to cry on the air-but then the new speaker completely ostracise the far right members-throw them off of every committee, take away any role they had.

and it will never happen with this house republican group
