Being that the SF game and our subsequent home playoff games ( ) will be cold, I was wondering if anyone had any input on how to keep your toes warm during the game. I had posted something like this on the old board, but I don't remember a lot of the advice.

You need some boot that not only has insulation, but good vetilation. When you feel your toes just starting to getchilled..wiggle them, stand up and keep the blood moving.

Stuff some of those hand warmer packets in your shoes and put on a couple pairs of socks especially wool ones. Throw some boots on and you're good to go.

I had those "toasty toes" on. Also, my boots have that "thinsulate", and I wear silk socks under wool socks. Still, toes get cold. Craziness!

Like shotty mentioned, you need air around your feet - don't put on 4 pair of socks and cram your feet into boots/shoes that aren't big enough. If you do, you are guaranteed to get cold feet/toes.

Feet warmers (those little pouches that are chemically activated) will help short term, in my opinion, but I have not come across any that last. Why? because those also need air movement to keep the reaction going. Stuffing them in shoes/boots minimizes their effectiveness in a huge way, in my opinion.

Best thing? Keep moving. Not just your toes. All body movement generates heat and helps. However, when it gets too bad for the feet, walk out and walk around a little bit. It helps.

Silk socks don`t absorb moisture...thats where you went wrong...Don`t laugh..this works......I put menthacin on my feet....it`s for muscle soreness....gets hot as heck...don`t use icy hot...

a nice pair of warm boots and avoid wearing cotton socks because they hold in the cold.

Might want to look into a nice pair of thermal hunting boots.

Dude...I am a expert at that

First.....use a foot powder.....then a light cotton sock to wick moisture.....then 2 pairs of heavy, real wool socks.

I have a pair of electric socks...they work great.

For foot wear...a pair of 800 grain thinsulate boots is my choice that is impregnated with beeswax.....I heat the new boot in a 175 degree oven for 15-20 minutes, then apply the bees wax....it is sucked into the open pores of the leather......it lasts forever then.

If you don't have the boots or the electric socks...you can buy foot warmers...packs you place under your toes inside the shoe..you can buy them at any sporting good store....they last about 5-6 hours...they work in a pinch....but whatever you have, you have to be dry....at least coat your shoes in beeswax to repel moisture....and that light layer sock to absorb moisture(sweat) is important.

The advantage of the battery socks is you can regulate the temp by plugging and unplugging the things....the packs can get a bit warm and the only thing you can do is to take them out.

I just bought another pair of the socks for my son....$24....battery extra...the battery usually lasts about 6 hours non stop....probably all day since you will probably unpluf a few time throughout the day.

A soldier is only as good as his feet...take care of them.

On buying boots for cold conditions....buy them big for sock room..I normally wear a 12....I go with a 13 wide to allow room for the socks.

And remember....use wool socks...If you don't pay about $12 per pair, it isn't enough wool content.

The thin silks can help, but I would go with Thorlo socks instead of plain old wool. It's also very important that your boots aren't too tight. Once I got off the super tight Ski Boots kick, my feet were infinately warmer. The hot hands work, but they make your feet sweat a lot. When they wear out, you get cold wet feet.

Real fans wear moccasins, no socks, and don't whine about it.

The only thing I would add is don't get all "geared up" in the house too early. You don't want sweaty feet before you even start out.

I made a mistake when I was 15. We played football all the time and my feet would get cold. One time I used plastic wrap over my socks to keep moisture out. The problem was that it also kept moisture in! My feet got sweaty. Wet toes + 10 degree weather = frost-nip. That plus the Browns v. Minnesota OT game at Muni in 1989 and I never had good circulation again.
Now my toes change color and I lose feeling in 35 degree weather.

That is why I say use a good foot powder and a lighter wicking sock under the wool..

And then those real fans spend the entire game away from their seats, right?

That's the key, right there. Good foot powder will prevent the sweating. If your toes/feet sweat, it's over.
