You know in this past game where we won against the Bills. I was just watching as the game ended and like all Browns fans started to breath again. And I'm watching DA take that last snap and quickly pop up from the kneel and start running gleefully to the side lines with ball in hand.
He was jumping up and down and then the kicker...on his way out he takes a running start and slides head first in the snow. I just thought that was so great and DA is so much part of this team.
I thought us going into our most important game of the season - a win clinches us a playoff birth and also is the first double digit win season for the expansion Browns. I thought it was just time to bury this deadbate at least temporarily and give DA his due for the 13 starts he has made this season and for what he hopes to accomplish in our last two games and more!
The deadbate? Sign him, Trade him, Tender him...thats for 08. This is 07 and this season is turning into something magical. DA is our starting QB, right here, right now as we try to embark and make a little Brown's history.
I'm not going to talk about feet, technique, arm, but I will talk about his character. Right now at this moment he is the leader of this team and what it stands for. Like the team he has risen from the ashes of Expansionism.
You just don't see too many QBs come running out on the field jumping up and down to greet and applaud their FG kicker making a bigtime kick. Well actually I've seen one other QB show that same boyhood enthusiasm...Favre throughout the year.
DA has been able to take what he has got and achieve success with it and along with it has risen the success of the Browns.
Time for - at least this dawg - to put away the deadbate and just exhalt the young kid to further successful exploits.
Seize the moment - for the 07 Browns are forever yours. Take this magic and burn the memory of this season forever to all the young Browns fans who are now just discovering what Browns football is about.
Oh and a little side bar. Thank you RANDY, Thank you SAVAGE and Thank you RAC

DA is growing on me...even if he can't throw a ball in stride, I think it's now possible that Phil deems him the QB of the future and gives him the big long contract.
you had a good run Hank.

I was a skeptic at the beginning of the year. And I have to say, he's winning me over. The kid keeps winning, and he seems to have the a good grasp of what our players can and cannot do. He's not forcing the ball (too much) and he is managing the game pretty well. It will be a exciting post season and off season. I'm looking forward to watching him in the playoffs.

I can't believe how much we have seen him grow this year before our very eyes. DA is the man and I hope we re-sign him. I can't wait to see how he will come out firing next year. Give him an off-season to evaluate himself, work on his short to intermediate throws, work on his other flaws and I think we just might have one of the premier players in the NFL right on our roster. No matter what happens this off-season this has been one magical season. THE SEASON OF DREAMS!!

Couldn't agree more! No matter what happens this off season, I want to thank DA and all of the 07 Browns for this magical season. It has been better than most of us could have dreamed it would be. I love his enthusiasm! He does remind me of Farve with it from time to time. Let's keep it going Brownies.... we're not done yet!!!!

I know draft picks are draft picks.
but, man...He's so good. He is the Cleveland Browns. He exemplifies the Browns persona, and fits Cleveland Browns football.
I dont want him to leave

Good post.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw him sliding in the snow.
That gets back to what I was talking about with draft picks.....here and now is where it is at....forget picks and all the other stuff and just enjoy what is happening.
DA is a big part of the team, and with respect to BQ, I bet the guys on the team don't want DA going anywhere. He is a leader in the locker room and is a guy who keeps people loose.
As you said......you never know, he might not be here next year for several reasons. But this is now....I am damn happy the guy is our QB.
Go Browns.

And that is all I was asking anyone to do...give the kid his just due...give him some credit for what this team has accomplished with him at QB.
He is not perfect but he is not as bad as some make him out to be. He is "our" starter and he's not half bad..actually, one of the better QBs the Browns have had.
How real Browns fans can dis their own QB, who has done more than decent job, is beyond me.
Try to enjoy this season, because we don't know what next year will bring.
Anyone claiming they do know what next season will bring is a fool and those that believe those that make the unbelievable predictions for next season are even bigger fools.
It's the here and now we Browns fans should be supporting...not next season because you just know so and so is going to make the Browns so much better.
I support all our Browns and don't like to see "anyone" talking ill of those players busting their butts.
Yes, it is time for everyone to support DA and stop thinking about visions of sugar plumbs dancing in your head.

I like the thread...don`t like to argue about players.on a general note....I don`t play NFL football..So I don`t feel I can question too much on a players abilities.... One thing I would say...Is I notice he seems very comfortable in the huddle...and after a turn over ...He grins like oh well....lets keep on playing.... Imo...he is a leader on the field...no matter what strengths or weaknesses he has.... And I would have loved to have slid across that field myself....

NRTU... I've been a Browns fan since the year before they got Modell'd and tracking games in the UK ain't easy (thank you Sopcast) but the most positive thing I have to say about DA. I never feel we're going to lose. Regardless of the score, regardless of the defense. I shout to my wife as we're 14 down early in St Louis "we're still in this game this is gonna be good". She ignores me lol. He has such intangibles, worth more thany any combine or wonderlic. He has flaws, god, his short passing is horrid at times but he has 2 of the most important qualities. Belief and confidence. Go Browns and go DA. We're yours

If he "due" is a big fat raise and a long term deal, then I suspect the Browns willbe giving him that this off season.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

I want him signed also Eo,, but time to do that is probably at the end of the season.. I would think that unless we offered up everything including the Kitchen Sink, he'd probably still wait to see what happened in the off season..
You are right about him being part of the fabric of this team.. I loved the way he came running out on the field to offer congrats to Dawson on the last FG..... it was actually pretty funny.. but in a good way.
SO yeah, I'm all for signing him, but more towards when the time is right rather than now.. Just a thought.

Hope I was rather clear that I wasn't opining about 08 on this thread so I hope that "also" was in agreement with another poster and you were just telling me.

Nice to see a thread that supports DA. Guess it just took a 9-5 record in playoff contention and a Pro Bowl selection. He's not the starter, but just getting there is a MAJOR showing for what DA has done, regardless of what others on this board may think about him.

What has impressed me the most has been his 4th quarter play.
A number of sucessful drives with the game on the line.
No int's
Say what you want, but when the game is on the line he has come through.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

I've already given him his due, but this is a nice thread. It's that 9-4 record as a starter thing.. that's what I like to see from a Browns quarterback...and he's been a big part of it.

Talk about 180 degree turnaround in my opinion of him. Since the day he took over he's done nothing but impress with his command, impressive drives, big plays, third down play, TD to INT ratio, number of TDs and so on. Someone mentioned last minute drives, there too he's been impressive, and in the red zone. It's been a long time since we've had a real offense and with DA & Chud at the helm, they're breaking records, have clinched a winning season, are thick in the playoff hunt and are a half game out of first place. What more could a fan ask for? From worst to first, if you weren't cognizant of all the hard work to get there you'd truly call it a Cinderella season, mainly because DA seems to have come from out of nowhere.

I love watching Anderson play. The only problem I have with people on this board is the fact that very few actually realize that DA has improved consistently.
Maybe he improves more...maybe not...that's a discussion for the very crazy off-season
Go Browns!!

I'm going to respond to your post without reading any replies so please forgive me if this is just rehashed stuff. I posted in a gameday thread about DA and the way I feel he has been treated. It goes along the same lines as your post here. This might be his only year as a starter in Cleveland but he has done something that we have only seen once since 99. He has lead a team to the brink of the playoffs. He by no means has done it all by himself, but he is the leader of one of the best offenses in the NFL. This is not the same as Dilfer winning the Super Bowl. Dilfer and that offense hardly scored, he just didn't make the mistakes to lose games. DA is making a difference. I will worry about what we will do with him after the season is over, but for now I will sit back and enjoy the ride. Thanks for a fun filled season and congrats on being picked a Pro Bowl alternate DA.

Coming out of training camp, I was very unhappy when many posters were talking of dropping Anderson... and keeping Frye, Quinn and Dorsey... I'm glad to see the year play out and have Anderson be a very big part of a WINNING SEASON for the Browns. No matter what happens in the off season, Derek Anderson is the QB of a winning Browns team... Go Browns

I think you know how I stand on the DA deadbate EO.. That said it's hard not to credit the guy for his solid play. No question in my small mind that DA has been a huge part of the success of the Browns this season. Perhaps his finest performance has yet to come?
Maybe just maybe he continues to lead this team on their magical run and we make some real noise in the playoffs??? I would be shocked to see it, but then again I am still in shock about how things have gone for us this season anyway, why not just one more SHOCK???
If I could I would tell DA great job young man great job indeed. He is young has gottin better thru the season and is closing in on some pretty impressive stats that where put up by some pretty good football players. It's been a great ride and DA deserves a big helping of credit, for the GREAT job he has done..

Dammit Eo. Why do you bring rational thought to the message boards? What are we going to complain about now? DA has done some wonderful things here, I'll give him that. Kudos to him and the team. I still have my reservations about long term, but that is for the off season. Go Browns!!!!

Very well put......I've tried to do that all season,
Before the season I was one who out of the QB was hoping Da would get cut....Just goes to show ya why I'm here behind my desk and Phil & RAC are the ones making personnel calls for the Browns & not me...LOL...
I may think I know but in the end that is all I know

"Guess it just took a 9-5 record in playoff contention and a Pro Bowl selection. He's not the starter, but just getting there is a MAJOR showing for what DA has done"
Its a feel good thread but still ya can't get it right...lol
He is not there yet - ProBowl. He's an alternate and has made nothing and has been selected to nothing. If one of the ProBowl QBs opt out - he's then part of the process. There are enough positives out there not to fabricate ones
ClayM57...I wanted CF, DA n BQ to be our 3 thinking that CF would be the starter and we would have this same magical season and we would trade him and keep DA as the backup for BQ. But there was a time or two when I thought he would be cut. I had no clue that the FO n RAC liked and believed in DA as much as they did. All I had was the pre-season games.
The kicker for me was going to the Jet game and seeing him warm up. I was in awe of his throws - how perfect they were. Of course if we can ever find a way to prevent Mr. Hyde from surfacing cause Poof we went into 7 on 7's and then 11 on 11's and a different DA emerged. But still I can see what RAC, Chud n Savage saw in DA to keep the competition open as long as they did.
Oh and for all the Humpers in the future deadbate. Let me just throw you a bone. Its the RAMS game...That was DA's best game as a NFL QB...I don't know about stats but by form and technique - I hope he gets back to that form in this last run of 07.

I have that game DVR'd and watch it occasionally for a pick-me-up. DA was amazing in that game. 99 yards passing on the opening 3rd quarter drive including 2 3rd-and-long conversions to JoeJ.
My favorite moment of that game? When DA threw that bullet to BE in the back of the endzone (with perfect man coverage by STL) and hearing commentator Steve Burlien say "Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?"
That was the moment when I thought DA had finally "arrived."

I Love the kid's attitude and winning ways. He just seems to have fun when playing the game. But if most of you in this thread agree that he deserves his due, is that a long term deal or a high tender? I agree that we should keep him as QB. As that is the one position that you want depth at. Personally, I hope that he gets the high tender. Then he gets his due regardless.
I don't think any team gives up a first and third for him and he remains a Brown for next year. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess.
Oh and EO, Props to your thanking of Randy, Phil and RAC!
And the next head coach is ......

I'll play..but I've never been to play nice.. For him to come in and play the way he has after Frye got deep-fried was admirable.. I'll give him him props for not playing the way he did in preseason.. And not getting discouraged when he makes a mistake..he comes right back..

What really turned me to DA was after the Ravens game, when we was running all over the fields, and went up to Stover and said,....Were going to over time boys......To me that was a cocky, fun way of saying it ant over lets play some more football.
Also with all he's gone thru in the last few years, he could of stood back and say I told ya so to the FO, & even teammates, & expecially the media, but instead he's worried about the teams ajenda, & even though his teammates are happy for his success, he seems just as happy if not more so for thiers... ....I can see why they wanna go into battle with him...

I agree EO. He definitely has a lot of Brett Favre in him.
Here's a guy that's just happy to be out there playing a game and that's really refreshing for me. Chest bumping BE after one of his great catches, sprinting out to congratulate Phil after that incredible kick, running around with the football after the game and sliding head first in to the snow before going off the field.
The more people want to discredit what he's done, the better he and most importantly the team plays.

Wow what a love fest. It is so cool to see how a piece of crap that so many felt should have been cut in the preseason has all of a sudden turned into the golden goose. And guess what should we lose the next two games and Anderson be one of the factors in those losses, all of a sudden he will be back to being a piece of crap. We as Browns fans seem to over rate and under rate our players based on wins. There are a few on this site that rate them with there eyes and knowledge but when they do they are belittled for being bias and ungreatful. I personally will say this, Thank You Mr. Anderson for a season beyond my expectations. Do I believe you can do this year after year and reach the ultimate goal of a Super Bowl Championship! NO way!
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

I like QBs that win ball games, I find it a very persuasive factor in the equation. This thread isn't a love fest, just a tip of the cap to Anderson for having a very good season as a winning Browns QB. He might bomb vs. Cinci & SF, but so far in 2007 he's done good.

I agree 100% but I hope your not one that will turn coat if things fall apart and you know there will be plenty.
I'm just the kind to take a stand, and I'm thrilled as hell about what he has done this season. Do I think he can lead us to the Super Bowl? In a word NO!
Will I be happy with a playoff berth and a first round loss? In a word NO!
It's just me, no more last or second best. You know second is the first loser right?
