Of course she should, she also shouldn't be drinking or sneaking cigarettes after the football game on Friday or driving too fast or looking at internet porn... but kids do it, most of us did some of it.. well all except the internet porn since there was no internet when I was 16.... , the vast majority get away with it, some don't. Some die in crashes from drinking or driving too fast or both and we talk about how irresponsible they are.. when most of us did it to some degree or another... some get pregnant... She's a kid, a kid who had very bad role models to look up to for the last 5 years as she developed her identity... Imagine that, she thought that sex was a way to get what you want.. who would have thought that Britney Spears sister would think like that... 
I'm not saying that any of this makes it right.. just saying that kids make mistakes, some just pay a higher price for them than others....

Thats exactly right DC. I think part of the reason kids make mistakes, is "adults" talk to them like they are the only person that made a mistake. I've found that when I talk to my children about the consequenses of their actions, they respond better. Wagging our finger, and saying shame, shame accomplishes nothing.

Most parents don't TALK to their children, though, they do exactly like you said and dictate. Kudos to you for talking....I'm sure it makes a huge difference.

Sorry, but your attitude, and those similar, are part of the problem in this country. No, this isn't the "industrial revolution" you speak of - this is called life. Like it or not, having kids at 16 is a bad thing. I don't care if she's a millionaire or not, it's a bad thing. To say "it is the norm" is to put this country back even further. Like it or not.

You can talk to kids 'til you're blue in the face. They are gonna do what they wanna do. You can try and teach them right, and hope that they listen. That's all you can do. If a kid wants to have sex, they will. Nothing you can do about it. They will say they are going to the park with their friend, then meet up with a guy. Do it, be home in a half hour. Parents are naive to always think their children are 100% angels. Some are, but most are not. Teach them right and hope that they listen to you. Somebody should have told that boy to put one on before having fun, with Zoey 101. 
How in the world can you fix something...

just clickin,
I wonder if she didn't do this on purpose. I mean from what i've heard she's always idolized Britney and wanted to be famous like her and since she has her own tv show she is mildly famous and now that Britney's a mom maybe she sees that and thinks that at 16 she's mature enough and wants to become a mom too.

I think you are part right.. perhaps a bit pessimistic on the whole thing, but partly right. Kids are going to make mistakes, what you hope for as a parent (or at least I do) is that none of those mistakes are lifelong or permanent mistakes.
However, a large part of the problem with "talking until you are blue in the face" is that kids only hear part of what you say. They are far more likely to do what you do than what you tell them to do... You can preach to them not to drink and drive, you can preach not to speed, you can preach not to gamble, you can preach the evils of porn... but if you drink and drive and speed and gamble and they find porn on your computer... all the preaching in the world isn't going to overcome that... the do as I say and not as I do method of parenting just doesn't work all that well...

You're making my point for me. That's what I'm trying to say, the biological clock in a human says "start reproducing when your body starts to change in different ways."
Just because our culture says "Don't get married and have sex until you're in your 20s or 30s" doesn't mean the biological clock of humans for reproduction, like any other animal, changes.
I'm actually surprised at how similar wild animals act when it comes to breeding in the wild compared to humans when being social with the opposite gender. Yes, I've been watching way too much Discovery HD Theater over winter break.

You are right in saying that 16 year olds shouldn't be having sex.
You are also right in calling her a slut if she was sleeping with more than one guy...I had heard that she was dating him for 2 1/2 years, but if she sleeping around during that time, then yes, that would make her a slut.
But she's not a slut just for having sex at the age of 16 if she was indeed monogamous.

Well I have my own issues with a 16 year old girl dating the same guy for 2 1/2 years... for goodness sake, she should be hanging out with friends, being a young girl, not tied to some guy 4 years older than herself (if he is in fact 19 now)....
Also, yes the word slut typically refers to a girl who has multiple sex partners, one night stands, that kind of stuff... so maybe "slut" isn't the best word for a 16 year old girl who only has sex with her boyfriend... but there should be another word for it, because it's still not right.

While society has come up with this magical number of 18 that makes you legally a adult , bilogical nature says a different thing. It is a struggle between what your bodys clock, that is controlled by hormones, and what is " scocially acceptable". In every other form of animal when the female become fertile they start reproducing.

When I was 16 (yea, back in the dark ages) I wanted it...
As I got older and finally got it, I realized that when I was 16, I wasn't ready (of course, when I was 16 I thought I was)
Nothing has happened to change my mind about that. I still don't think 16 years olds (generally speaking that is) are old enough to be responsible for the consequences.
But for some reason, most of society today is more tolerant of 16 year olds dressing like thier favorite teeny bopper TV and music stars... You know, a little slutty looking. and sometimes, the behavior goes along with that. (no, it's not just the cloths.. it's the attitude I'm speaking of)
So no, I don't think the rules have changed at all,, we just let it happen.. We tolerate it more today than My parents would have 40 years ago. When I was 16!
