Honest question...

He would be our best get, right?

Yes.

I am firmly on the DTR train, but I can get down with Tannehill. There's obviously some collusion going on. But Tannehill on this team the rest of the way. Sign me up. Just play solid and don't turn the ball over.

I completely agree. Even if you're on the DTR train, I think having a vet QB on the roster is a must if you're serious about this season.

If we remain in contention with DTR as the starter, you simply CANNOT be 1 hit away from PJ throwing the ball.

probably not entirely, no, but Vrabel did just announce right before Week 10 that Levis is their starter going forward, so Tannehill is the backup now. That likely doesn't sit well to begin with, then there is now a definite need on a real contender team... if it does pan out to be what it seems like, then I would expect that someone from his camp heard from someone that heard from someone that the Browns could be interested in signing someone like him should he become available.

Browns is the Browns

How many other teams would have the option to pick up Tannehill before he fell to us down the waiver wire?

1. Players with less than four (4) years of service time (“non-vested” veterans) are “waived” and are subject to waivers. The normal waiver period in the NFL is 24 hours, but for the final cutdown to 53, the waiver period is shortened and ends at Noon on the following day (instead of the normal 4:00 p.m.). So, if another team wants to claim that player, they must do so by Noon on Sunday. If multiple teams place a waiver claim on the same player, the player is awarded to the team with the highest waiver priority (draft order during the 1st couple weeks of the season; the reverse order of the standings after week 3). If a player goes unclaimed, he clears waivers and is a free agent, free to sign wherever he can find work.

2. Players with 4+ seasons of service time are “released.” These players, known as “vested veterans,” do not pass through waivers and are free agents immediately, free to sign with any other team.

These rules apply until the trade deadline (presently the Tuesday after Week 8 of the NFL season). After the trade deadline (until the start of the next league year in March), all players – whether a vested veteran or a non-vested veteran – are “waived” and subject to the waiver process.

3. Injured players with 4+ seasons of service time can be immediately placed on Injured Reserve (IR).

4. In the past, prior to the final cutdown date, injured players with less than four years of service could not go onto IR without first passing through waivers. A 2018 NFL By-Laws change has made it no longer necessary to place non-vested veterans on Injury-Waivers before placing them on IR. In the past, the need for Injury Waivers caused teams to risk losing the player to a waiver claim and on occasion some teams took advantage of this to poach players. As such, teams would often continue to carry the player on the 90-man roster until the final cutdown in order to not risk losing the player. The new By-Law solves this issue and non-vested veterans can now go directly onto IR without having to first pass through Waivers.

Tannehill was playing pretty good ball before getting an ankle injury in the 3rd qtr of his 6th start vs the Ravens on 10-15-23...

How many teams not in the playoff race need a QB and would claim Tannehill at his price tag?

that Tannehill news was from a fake account though

Lamar’s backup, Huntley, would still be better than Kenny.

Yeah, I thought about that... and the fact that DTR has a fighting chance as well.

I think you mean a punchers chance.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

A punchers chance to be better than Pickett? I guess, but then so does RGIII.

In boxing a punchers chance means someone that's facing long adds still has the chance of lucking out. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that fifth rounds rookies that have started NFL games during their rookie seasons have pretty long odds against doing well. Not that it's impossible just highly improbable.

Off the top of my head I would say Gardner Minshew had a good rookie season (I think he was a sixth round pick. ) Sam Howell is looking good for a Sophmore. So yes I agree that it's a long shot but then again how many College QB's play five seasons in a pro style offense play 50 games in college? Hope the kid can make the Browns look great for drafting him.

I will say it again. He was sitting there in the fifth round for the Browns to draft for a reason. Hopefully that will end up being a mistake other teams made five times. But once again, those odds aren't good.

Rodger Staubach - 129

Joe Heismann - 99

Mark Rypien - 146

Matt Hasslebeck - 187

Brad Johnson - 227

Rich Gannon - 98

Mark Brunnell - 118

It does happen. Sadly I'm 65 which means I don't have enough time left in my life to look up and post all of those which would fit your example that failed. naughtydevil

Oh dear Lord man. I'm talking about how long and how many late round draft picks which for your example that failed. For every Roger Staubach there's a hundred drafted that late which failed. So while your examples certainly happened, the odds against that happening are ridiculously high.

If he is released, there is not waivers to go through, and being released, there is no set price. If he wants to play for us a league minimum the rest of the way, he can choose to do so.

At this point I don't think he is chasing money.

Is it Time to lock up Geron Christian for next year???
I don't know his age , don't care if he's 34, but
He played 2 solid outings at LT in div matchups

Probably ahead of James Hudson, slightly, maybe,

You can never have too many really really good Offensive Tackles.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I'm pretty sure if he is released, he will have to go thru waivers. The exception for veterans only applies prior to the trade deadline.
