Hello fellow dawgs.. Couple of quick questions for those who know anything about the Apple iPhone. I really want one but do not want to pay $400.00 if I don't have to. I have been looking on ebay but have noticed that most are "locked" or are described as: Apple iPhone 4GB firmware 1.1.2 ACTIVATED/JAILBREAK (Upon On Your Request)

I have AT&T and would like to just buy the iPhone and pay the extra money a month to get the iPhone base package..

I just don't want to get stuck with some thing that is not going to work.. If I get one on ebay described as above, can I just put in my SIM card from AT&T and use the phone and all the features and software of the phone??

I don't know but, when your dealing with something like that, you might be better off to pay the 400.00 and get something that has not been tampered with. You'll get your 400.00 out of that device. I'm not going to bother telling you about it's features, as I'm sure your aware of everything the iphone has to offer. Pay the 400.00 and avoid the anxiety, you know?

That's what I am thinking but I have always had good luck luck with ebay.. I bought my son's Wii off of ebay and I have purchased many things.. It's that I just do not know enough about the iPhones to buy one from there and was hoping to get some insight.. Thanks for the feedback..

Your "goodluck" goes up when you buy from a guy that has high rating compared to someone who has none or little..thats just a general tip for ANYTHING u buy n ebay...

Also, i don't think i understand your question? It sounds like you want someone to tell you it's okay to buy on ebay...but then you say u have bought stuff before and it was fine...so i don't get wht ur askin...

Are you asking what the difference between locked and unlocked phones? if that is the case, then it's very simple...the locked ones work on the carrier they were programmed to do so with....for example if tmobile phone is locked that phone cannot be used with any other services unless it's unlocked(obviously the phone also has to have specs required for the other carrier...)

That was pretty much my questions as well as fimware?? I am not sure what that means?? Also, I was reading that if you have one version you can't upgrade to the most recent or the phone won't work. I have no problem with ebay I just don't want to purchase a phone and then not have it be what I thought I was getting..

Don't take my word for it 100% but the way I take it is that the phone is not unlocked, meaning you can't use it on another network other than AT&T. If it were unlocked and you upgrade it to a certain firmware, it may be turned into a paperweight, so to speak.

I Phones using Apple Firmware version 1.1.0 & 1.1.1 , can be unlocked. I have a buddy using his Iphone with T-mobile .The new firmware with version 1.1.2 (the type AT&T put out), has not been cracked yet.... If you can get a phone with the old software I can get it unlocked for ya....but getting the phone is easier said then done. You can usually Identify if its got the old software from the Serial Number on the box of the phone...Ill have to dig and see if I can find the Serial # range, when I do Ill post it and then you can start the hunt

sorry I didnt read the first question correctly. If it is unlocked the YES you can just switch SIM cards. As far as I know though noone I know can unlock version 1.1.2 . If you can get one that the seller will guarentee is unlocked I would take a shot on e-bay. try to find a power seller or someone who has an online store. they are usually the most reliable

If you really want one, I think it's probably best to just break down and buy one from Apple. I sunk 400.00 in to one and to be honest, I don't regret it at all.

You might save 100.00 up front but in the long run, if you do have a problem, that initial savings is going to pale in comparison to poor customer support from the seller or potential product replacement (or lack-thereof).

You'll use the iPhone so much that the initial investment really isn't that large to be honest with you. Tracking stocks, surfing the internet, google maps (which is amazing), listening to music, watching movies, etc. It's a great product and worth every penny IMO. I would just purchase it directly from Apple and have the peace of mind of being able to break the seal on a new box yourself.

Mine is 8GB. They actually discontinued the 4GB models I believe.

You'll have to manage the music on your iPhone, depending on how much you have. It will hold somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,600+ songs, depending on the size of your files. Right now I have 800 songs, 1 movie and a few TV shows and I'm only using about 5 GB's.

I don't know if I even know 800 songs let alone have that many on an iPhone. It seems 8GBs is more then enough. It is easy to download movies and TV shows? Wear do you down them them from??
