I'm saying nothing like that. Just pointing out that raising the minimum wage, specifically for fast food workers, to $20 per hour is reckless and stupid. Especially considering this:

But for fast food workers it's $20?

You see, the way business works is that higher costs are passed on to the consumer across the industry. You do understand that's how this works, right? Or are you suggesting Californians will simply stop dining out? Thanks for the economic lesson though, I had no idea how business works, especially food service. I would have never figured that out after three restaurants, two bars and a large catering company.

I'll go next level since your foodservice acumen is so on point. You know the #1 consideration of consumers of food at every level, from fast food to fine dining? Perceived value. That can be 'purchasing' the perfect anniversary at $100 per plate or calories per dollar (some psycho-analytical spendthrifts actually crunch those numbers and comment on them).

What is the perceived value of a taco?

So, yes, businesses raise prices when costs get higher, but now a taco may lose it's perceived value when the prices have to go up 30% to overcome the axehole tax imposed by Gavin. One exclusively for fast food businesses for some ungodly, unexplainable reason.

I just gave you a lesson in how costs are passed on to consumers and as such prices will be reflective at all restaurants in California. It's really that easy no matter how hard you try to complicate it.

I'll ask you again. Are you trying to claim that restaurant closures in California will be at a higher rate than the rest of the country over the next few years? Because if not their minimum wage has nothing to do with it.

Obviously if you don't understand how price increases work you're not qualified to give me any lessons about concrete.

It is how it works. Now if labor was the only cost of business you could blame it all on that. When I was in business the taxes you paid were based on the profit you made. Unless of course you're really rich. Then exceptions began to apply.

Maybe so but I’m betting the restaurants that close were ripping off their employees and cutting corners in food prep and food purchasing, so good riddance. Restaurants can’t find enough employees so this should be a god send to those restaurants that are popular and serve great food. Also Red Lobster is closing or auctioning off locations. Mostly in Florida and California. No big loss either. Red Lobster is a poor restaurant in general IMO.

You do not live in California, and you may not realize that the cost of living here is significantly higher.

That is one of the knocks against the minimum wage. The cost of living varies from city to city and state to state. I checked one of those on line calculators (Forbes) and the factor is 1.73 between San Diego and Youngstown/Warren. So $20 dollars and hour in California is the same as $11.56 where you reside.

gas, housing, taxes, for most items, it is more expensive here.

That does nothing to explain why the minimum wage was raised a hefty 30%, in one move, amongst all the other costs challenges (and believe me, especially right now, food service has more than most)... but only for fast food workers.

While the minimum wage remains at $15 an hour for everyone else.

I believe the answer is that the politicians do not raise the minimum wage every year, so there is catch-up required. I also know that some chains were already above $15 simply because that is what they needed to get employees. It did not affect In-N-Out, a well known local burger chain, as they were already above $20.

Any yes, it does target larger fast food providers, 60 or more restaurants if I recall.

There has been a lot of debate in California about this, but I have no real opinion other than the fact that real minimum wage varies with location.

Rubio's is good, but has always been a bit pricey.

Newsome has long embodied that champagne socialist California Democrat vibe. That would likely explain the exception.

It does seem entirely plausible that the Government should have incrementally raised rates to be where they should but then later over corrects or does it all at once.

I know that from experience within. It’s either 1. Do nothing for a while and then go “Oh crap!” and try to do everything at once, or it’s 2. Try to be proactive but continually do the wrong thing and then go back and redo it right.

Yeah, picking on food service with that kind of hike makes no sense to me. It should have been the opposite, everything but food and put them on the incremental scale. Owners on all levels need to know what's coming and would give their first-born for it to be within some kind of scale that affords them some breathing space. Food cost has always been volatile, right now it's more out of whack than your far-left ideologies.

I still have more than a few friends in the game on all levels... owners, purveyors, distributors, brokers... some of the stories I've heard are 100% insane as far as the supply pipeline and ever-changing costs. It's like the stock market on steroids, it has been since mid-2020. And things don't just change a bit. One week 50lb potatoes are $25, the next week they're $50.

There was a democrat in California running on $50 minimum wage platform. This is how the democrats plan to beat capitalism, make it too expensive to do business and the private sector will close up shop. The mega-corporations might be able to survive. They'll kill the mom & pop places leaving even less competition.

Bottom line is, when you raise business taxes, the end consumer of said business pays for it.

Georgia court of appeals indefinitely pauses the election subversion conspiracy case against Donald Trump

A Georgia appeals court has halted the election subversion conspiracy case against Donald Trump and several of his co-defendants – a massive victory for the former president seeking to push further legal issues until 2025 if he can’t beat them altogether.

The new order filed on Wednesday from the Georgia Court of Appeals is the latest indication that a trial in the state-level Georgia election subversion case will not occur before the 2024 presidential election. The court said the case will be on hold until a panel of judges rules on whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be disqualified.

The appeals court is expected to rule on the disqualification issue by March 2025, though it could issue a ruling sooner. Several sources close to the case have told CNN that the timeline remains very uncertain.

Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee had initially allowed proceedings in his courtroom to continue as the appeals court weighed an appeal of his decision to allow Willis to remain on the case.

A spokesperson for Willis’ office said they can’t comment on the appeals court’s order at this point. The DA can ask the appeals court to fast track a decision in this matter if it chooses.

The appeals court’s decision underscores Trump’s series of successes in his long-running strategy to put prosecutors on the defensive, attack them in the public sphere and challenge them in court.

Trump and some of his co-defendants in the sprawling racketeering case have been trying to get Willis disqualified from the case because of a romantic relationship she had with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she hired to help handle the case. The defendants argued that Willis financially benefited from the relationship with Wade, who defense attorneys say covered several vacations for the pair.

In March, after what amounted to a mini-trial where attorneys for Trump and his co-defendants sought to prove their case against Willis and Wade, McAfee found there was not enough evidence to firmly prove Willis financially benefited from the relationship.

Willis’ testimony in televised proceedings put her personal life in the spotlight, turning discussion away from the charges Trump and others face in Georgia.

The judge ultimately decided Willis would be allowed to continue to helm the case if Wade stepped down, which he later did.

Steve Sadow, Trump’s lead defense counsel in Georgia, said the ruling was proper.

“The Georgia Court of Appeals has properly stayed all proceedings against President Trump in the trial court pending its decision on our interlocutory appeal which argues the case should be dismissed and Fulton County DA Willis should be disqualified for her misconduct,” Sadow said in a statement.


Florida delays help Trump as well

Meanwhile, in Trump’s classified documents case in Florida, the federal judge overseeing those proceedings has shown propensity to devote large amounts of in-court time to Trump’s requests to question investigators and his prosecutors’ authority.

That judge, Aileen Cannon, indicated on Wednesday she still appears to be willing to hold a hearing where Trump could attempt to put federal investigators under oath so his attorneys could question them, and said she’ll dedicate a day and a half this month to hearing arguments about the legality of his prosecutor.

Like the Georgia case, the Florida documents case has no set trial date.

The fact understanding the basic concept that all restaurants in Califnia will pass the cost on to consumers which places them all on an equal footing is a basic concept. Nobody has to be an expert to understand that. The fact you refuse to admit that you know this is true is a you problem. I do understand why you wish to make that my fault however.


Yes, there are over 68 thousand restaurants in California, for some reason they don't seem to be going out of business. But in your wisdom you found the exception and have decidced somehow you're going to make that the rule. Silly man.
