Go, Tribe! Wahoo!

Yesterday I wondered "What will 'Not-the-Tribe' wear as a legacy throwback uni for any special MLB promotions?" Not sure what works.

First time really watching Condon last night. Was super excited, even called the daughter down to watch him bat. I know I know he now has 37 HR’s on the season, but I hate his swing, lol. It looked really long to me. Had trouble on the sliders down and away striking out in his 2nd and 3rd at bats.

If it was me I’m still taking Bazzana

NC State had some really good hitters as well. First time in awhile I’ve watched a college baseball game in its entirety.

Made one big mistake but otherwise he pitched a great game. Maybe Vogt left him in too long.

I think he did too. I was begging him to take him out after the De La Cruz strikeout

An 8-0 win and now 8-0 at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario. Had a wonderful view of Kwan banging a dinger off the foul pole.

Tragedy struck in the 5th when my parlay was wiped out when J.P. Crawford was ejected from the game negating any chance of him recording a hit in the game and my parlay hitting.

Kwan on a 13 game hitting streak!

Back to the ballpark on Friday.

Guardians promote Angel Martinez; place Gabriel Arias on family medical emergency list

By Paul Hoynes, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Utility man Angel Martinez had a great spring training, but his chances of breaking camp with the big league club were ruined when he fouled a ball off his right foot.

Things were further hampered when Martinez broke the hamate bone in his left hand a few days into his minor league season. On Friday, however, the Guardians recalled the switch-hitting Martinez from Class AAA Columbus after placing fellow infielder Gabriel Arias on the family medical emergency list.

Martinez, 22, was hitting .333 (20 for 60) with four doubles, three homers and 11 RBI in 17 games in two tours with Columbus. He went 4 for 4 with two homers and four RBI on Tuesday for the Clippers.

After hitting .389 (7 for 18) with one homer and five RBI in spring training, Martinez opened the season on the injured list because of his bruised foot. He was activated and optioned to Columbus in April, but after playing just three games suffered a broken hamate bone in his left hand that required surgery.

Martinez, like Arias, can play all over the diamond. In Columbus this season he started games at third base, second base, shortstop, center fielder and DH. Manager Stephen Vogt told reporters before Friday’s game the thing that stood out most about Martinez from spring training, though, was his smile.

“This is a kid that is just happy all the time and he had a great spring before he got hurt and we’re happy he’s here,” Vogt said. “He’s earned it and we’re excited.”

Vogt said Martinez is another versatile player who keeps Cleveland’s roster flexible.

“The versatility he brings to both sides of the plate, he can drive the ball, he could play six different positions on the field,” Vogt said “It’s always exciting.”

Cleveland signed the native of the Dominican Republic as an international free agent in 2018. He has played in 410 minor league games at five different levels. He is the son of former catcher Sandy Martinez, who played 218 games in the big leagues, one with the Indians in 2004.

Martinez, who will wear jersey No. 1, said he benefitted tremendously from watching his father’s career in the big leagues as he grew up.

“Knowing that he’s been through all these stages that you go through and becoming a minor leaguer and being supported and getting the help you need, I feel that’s kind of a dream come true to have somebody who’s been through what I’ve been through,” Martinez said via Guardians interpreter Agustin Rivero. “I know he’s my unconditional support and kind of like my superhero in a way.”

Teams are allowed to place a player “experiencing a family emergency or the death of a loved one on the Family Medical Emergency list with permission from the commissioner’s office. The player may spend between three and seven days on the list, and during that period, his club may replace him on the active 26-man roster.”

Arias has not played since June 12 against the Reds. He’s hitting .214 (27 for 126) with seven doubles, two homers and 11 RBI. He’s struck out 43 times and walked five.

He has started games at second, third, shortstop, left field, right field, center field and DH.

Good move. All teams need that guy who can fill in at multiple positions and play at least average defensively. If they can hit in the .270 range, you have a valuable asset. Sometimes those guys can save the day when a regular gets banged up for one reason or another. It also gives a manage more opportunity to rest players.

Baseball is a long season played in hot conditions as the season moves forward. Giving guys a few extra days off late in the season pays dividends.

Tristan McKenzie is broken. His fastball is constantly finding the middle of the plate. I will not be surprised to see him show up on the I.L.. The Guardians cannot keep trotting him out there. Hopefully, Gavin Williams is activated in the next few days.

The team seems to do a great job developing pitchers so I am not going to try to tell them what to do, but unless they are trying to get this kid comfortable throwing a specific pitch without fear, a bump up to AA might be in order for the 2nd half of the season.

Guardians Send Down Promising Starter to Make Room for New Pitcher
July 7, 2024

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Guardians made a notable roster change, sending starting pitcher Logan Allen to Triple-A Columbus despite his standout performance of nine strikeouts in their recent 4-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Progressive Field.

The decision to option the 25-year-old left-hander came just one day after his season-best appearance, as Cleveland aims to make space for the newly acquired right-hander Spencer Howard. Howard, who came over in a trade from San Francisco, has a record of 1-1 with a 5.63 ERA across seven games this season, including two starts.

Throughout his 18 starts with the Guardians this year, Allen has posted a record of 8-4, but with a slightly elevated ERA of 5.67 and a WHIP of 1.546 over 87 1/3 innings, striking out 76 and walking 35. This followed a previous season where he went 7-8 across 24 starts with a 112 ERA+. Despite leading the team in wins tied with Ben Lively, Allen’s ERA+ is 29% below the league average at 71.

According to Manager Stephen Vogt, it was a difficult decision to send Allen down, especially considering his significant contributions to the team’s performance this season. Vogt expressed optimism about Allen’s potential to improve his consistency and execution in the minor leagues.

“It’s an opportunity for Logan to go down and get some consistency back,” Voget explained. “We’ve seen it where he’ll have one outing where he is out there, efficient, filling up the strike zone, going six innings. Then he’ll have another where he struggles, throwing a lot of pitches and battling to find the strike zone.”

This adjustment aims to give Allen a chance to refine his delivery and work on extending his innings and maintaining control more consistently. Vogt has faith that Allen will work diligently to return to peak form.

Allen is the second pitcher from the opening day starting rotation to be sent down following Triston McKenzie’s option to Columbus earlier in the week. This move underscores the team’s strategy to build a rotation of peak performers.

As for Howard, the team is still finalizing plans for his integration into the starting lineup. “Spencer just got in the building today, so we haven’t had much time to sit down with him given the short day,” Vogt stated. Further details on Howard’s role are expected in the coming days.

The Guardians continue to tweak their roster as they navigate the ongoing season, striving for the best combination of talent and performance.

The only thing I can figure is the teams needs a middle reliever who can go 3-4 innings at a time. In a blowout, you don't want to burn up 3-4-5 of your 1 inning guys. We have to start protecting them for the end of the season and playoff run.

I don't know if Spencer will be any good in that role but time will tell.

As the trade deadline approaches I am hoping the Guardians make a move.

This is a good ball club with a legit chance to make noise in the playoffs. A couple good moves and they could have a real chance to win a World Series.

It is frustrating with Dolan as the owner.

Maybe if they draw well; he will open his purse.

Both that and bananas.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Yup, someone even went and created a whole product out of it with a bunch of other stuff added in.

Basically, ya just need some electrolytes in your body if your muscles are cramping, and pickle juice is a good vehicle for that. Just a few ounces is enough, for whatever reason.

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
