It's not about record! It's about how the team performs on the field. Are they improving? Are they doing anything better today than when the season started? Has there been any progress as a team?

If there has been, I sure as hell don't see it.

You realistically expected us to get BETTER as the season went on and we added more and more players to the IR off of an already inferior squad?????? We've lost starters on both sides of the ball to injury and mental illness, fired the Offensive Coordinator, and you expected them to show improvement on a weekly basis???

That's ludicrous!

This team was gutted last year......gutted. It's going to take time to re-build it, and we will have the cash in 2007 to make great strides in doing so. You want a new guy to come in and spend all of that money not knowing what is truly needed, when we have a guy already here that has been working towards that goal (and knowing we would have the cash next year, that was part of the damned plan when they gutted as they did) and KNOWS what is needed????

Change for the sake of change is never good. It's unbelievable that so many people think that firing the guys in charge will magically make everything all better......give them a fair shake.

j/c:

Well..........at least the prediction I made two years ago is right on track. LOL.....some of you---and the Browns---are so predictable.

A few points:

---Mo was most certainly a scapegoat. The offensive talent either sucks or is inexperienced. Hell, some are a combination of both. Our offense actually looks worse now. And no...I am not blaming Davidson. He inherited the same crappy talent that Mo had to work with. It's not fair to judge either guy.

---I don't think everyone hated Mo. It was two or three guys that had a problem w/him. Guys who got called out by Mo for their [censored] play. Poor lil' babies. And believe me.........I have a better in than most of you as to how the players felt about him.

---I didn't want RAC hired. I wanted Grimm. And I really don't know if he is a good coach or not. But, I can't judge him because he hasn't been given adequate talent.

---I do know that he is as good as gone. If not after the season, [the plan was to keep him for next year as of 2 weeks ago] the mob will be out in full force early next year. There is no way this team will win and RAC will be run out of town.

---Savage hasn't gone about building this team properly. Drafting Leon is his signature move and symbolizes everything that is wrong w/the Browns.

---With that said, I don't want Savage fired either, even though he deserves more blame than RAC. It amazes me how people get hit over the head by a hammer time after time and still don't learn. Changing philosophies every couple of years leads to consistent losing.

---I got news for you guys. The Browns are in the same category as the Raiders, Lions, and Cardinals. The Brown's franchise under the Lerner family has become a joke.

---If we are going to make more changes.........I wish that Junior would sell the team. He is a moron and swindler. He has damaged this once-proud franchise tremendously. I know he won't sell, but I had to get that out there.

---Hmmm........a couple of other things. Belichick was a good coach when he was here. People hated him because he benched a washed-up Kosar. The only weakness Bill had was dealing w/the media. I told people then that he would be a great coach. And it makes me sick when people say he suddenly "became a good coach after he left here." [censored] clueless.

---I hope the Chargers win it all this year. I never wanted to see Marty leave. Remember running him out of town, geniuses? Wasn't that the year after you ran Byner out of town?

---Between the idiotic moves of the owner and some of the slimy fans, it's hard to even root for the Browns.

---I bet I will make a lot of new friends w/this post.

I'll ask again...what type of coach do we need at this time.
I don't care if we should keep RAC ...I am certain his die has been cast.
We all would love an experienced professional H. C. but what personality type should we be looking for???

I don't care if we should keep RAC ...

And I don't care if you don't care. So, I will explain again:

It wont' freaking matter what type of coach we bring in. We simply don't have enough talent to win. Furthermore, our system hasn't been in place very long, yet we will need to develop a new system...a new philosophy...a new influx of talent.

Let's take a look a recent history. I could take it back further, but I don't feel like typing all of it.

We had Palmer. He was the QB coach and I think OC for Jax. We were going to be exciting. He was going to mentor Timid, just like he did Bledsoe and Brunell. Damn....we didn't have enough talent and we ran him outta town.

We said that we didn't want an NFL assistant. Afterall, if they were good enough, they would have been a head coach already. Let's go get a great college head coach...that's the ticket. We also didn't want a player coach like Palmer......So, we hire Butch. Then, the fans, media, Junior and Damien run him outta town.

Hmmm....now the cry is that we absolutely cannot get a college coach. And we need someone who is more of a player's coach. Butch wasn't liked by his players, the poor things ..........So, we hire RAC.

What a great move, you all said. I remember questioning the move of his hire and Mo's hire. I remember being chastised and being called names. Funny, many of the same people who were swooning over the hire are very vocal in calling for him to lose his job.

Look Ralphie...........it's nonsense. It doesn't [censored] matter what type of coach we get. A player's coach can succeed. A disciplinarian can succeed. A college coach can be a good NFL coach. A coordinator can be a good head coach. And likewise, they can all fail. A head coach has to impose his will on his players. He has to get them to believe in him, his system, and themselves. And most of all...he needs talent.

I have no idea if RAC is going to be a good head coach. All I can tell you that he does NOT have the talent, especially offensively, to compete. I know I'm wasting my time defending him, because I guarantee he won't be here in 2008. Even if he makes it to next year...he won't get another year because the Browns are going to suck again next year. And I don't give a flying [censored] who the coach is ..........or "what type of coach" he is!!!

Not me. I said 'If ya wanna play Vinney over Kosar, so be it.'. Where he lost me was when he CUT Kosar to start Todd Philcox for the rest of the year.

...and you sound like you got coal in your stocking.

we just need to keep bringing in good players, and developing the young ones...

wimbley looks like a definite keeper... he's only going to get better, i think everyone is in agreement that on top of his game, his attitude is great... savage made a good pick...

savage also brought in lecharles bentley, who by all accounts, would have made the line better, the guy is a legitimate pro bowl center... him going down is not something we can put on savage...

we're also seeing good development with sean jones, and brodney pool to some extent...

we have josh cribbs, who is one of the best return men in the game...

jurevicious doesn't look like much of a sign now, but he's a guy who can only show value when all of the other pieces are in place...

although i don't like edwards, i still think he has a lot of potential, he just needs an attitude adjustment, i don't think his trade value right now would justify any kind of trade, i don't even know what we could get for him if we wanted him out... we're stuck with him, and maybe one day he'll finally get it...

i think we just need to stay the course, and keep drafting players, grind it out, and if the right guy is there in free agency, you do it...

and to romeo's defense, this team will never do anything without a quarterback, and i think we're really starting to see that we don't have one.... i like charlie, i think he's a great teammate and he's a media darling, but i just don't see it... i think anderson can be a very reliable backup, but he's not a guy i want to go into battle with... and ken dorsey, well, he's ken dorsey...

what i want to see is more of an impact with our middle round picks...

and if we're going to load up on the line of scrimmage, i really think we should go earlier, we don't have to go in the first round, but second and third is where they can really add youth to the line of scrimmage... which we all know is where the games are won...

looking at all the players entering the draft, there are guys at almost every position, with the exception of maybe cornerback...

quentin moses, alan branch, i would love to have either of those guys on my defensive line... there are a few guys on ohio state's offensive line i'd like to have, texas has a good blocker coming out...

i'm really more worried about a coach that can develop young players, rather than a guy who can make in-game adjustments, and all of the gametime stuff... i just don't think this team is ready to contend, so the point is moot until we're ready to go... the problem is i know romeo can develop defensive players (as we've seen) but offensively i think the progression is at a standstill... and that has to change, i think we can keep romeo and still try and bring in an offensive guy, i mean, i haven't heard anything about it, but are we going to stick with davidson next year or is he strictly interim?

i also don't see a coach on the market who i think could do any better in the headcoaching position...

nice post verse.....looks to me like we got cinci-ittis

we definitly need to leave the current coaching staff alone....

he's doing the best he can with what little talent we have...man it still burns me up that bentley went down...man i wanted to run up the middle successfully....

can u imagine teams actually having to respect the run?

same goes with the passing offense...can you imaging if we could do 3,5,and 7 step drops?

i can see the other teams game plan now...

on d....stack the box...

on o....run it down there throat....and if by chance they can stop our run...or if you get bored.... then pick apart there 4-5 th string cb's....not to mention our rookie safeties....and rookie linebackers....

ya know the only kind of coach we could have? one whos credetials are impeccable....i'm talkin a guy like parcells or walsh...

this way there is no blaming them...

sad thing is then someone would probably say the old guy lost it...or the games changed....or some other lame bs....

we need to leave this team alone for a few years, and let those guys do what they do....

i'm sure romeo has made mistakes, but only a fool thinks he hasen't learned from them...

take braylon for example....sure looks like he gave him a break and just talked to him....when the crap continued he talked again....then we heard how the team wanted stricter dicipline....next thing we know braylon is sitting...

then we hear about edwards and k2 politicing in the huddle for the ball...nothing wrong with saying "hey i was wide open" but not the gimmie the ball crap that appears to have been going on....

now it appears that rac may have only acted after the team spoke but at the same time something else was done

balls were thrown to cutt...that should have been edwards...

and a ton of balls have been thrown to jj lately....

now in romeo's presser he stated how jj plays hard runs good routes, blocks...finishes plays....and when he gets a ball thrown his way he catches it....rac sent a strong message....play hard, do your job, and you get the ball....not this gimmie, gimmie crap....these guys are entitled to nothing...prove it on the field...winslow i can like cause he seems to play hard, and does catch the ball....but edwards needs to shut up....

man am i rambling hehe....

heck nobody has even givin davison a chance to put in his own system....

all i can say is the red right '88, the drive, and the fumble really messed us fans up....patience.....

Attitude is everything....FEAR THE ELF!!!

---I didn't want RAC hired. I wanted Grimm
Actually, I wanted Weiss...but after he was out of the equation I wanted Grimm. You might remember my battle cry at the time...'I want the best OL coach as our next HC'. - I'm betting that we'd have a good OL by now and that would've produced wins.

We have enough tallent to win. We just don't have enough tallent on OL & DL.

I don't know if Romeo is good enough or not. I DO know that I don't care for his use of the red flag system, nor do I like allowing BE to get out of line. Now, he's not a play caller for either side of the ball...so he can't be blamed for that stuff. I don't see us consistantly calling bad plays, which is what he COULD be held accountable for.
I'd like to see him COACH the players a little more during games. When the unit comes off the field, don't just stand there and let them go by...coach the player(s) as to what you noticed during that stint.

Again, I don't know if he's good enough or not...I just don't wanna be starting all freakin' over again. Who knows, the next guy wants to go back to a 4-3 D Then we're rolling over players again...
With enough tallent, the players should be able to make just about any HC look good.

I agree with you vers, we still need more talent before we can decide if Romeo is the guy.

hopefully, randy sees this and doesn't can him.

[color:"red"]Maintain it? We get torched every week.

It isn't better.
[/color]
The D kept us in a lot of games whereas the offense didn't put up anything..thats a fact, even your eyeballs should see that.
[color:"red"] RAC sucked when he was here as our coordinator under Palmer. Something rells me he wasn't the guy who devised the patriots D and set all the schemes....I think he was in a good position that made him look good.

If he was that good, we would be a little better than 31st.

[/color]
Why is it sooo difficult to see that back in 99 and right now the BIGGEST problem is depth and a lack of talent?
If we had those and the performance was still like it is U could say that..if there's not enough talent how can U say the coach sucks?

Autumn,, I never will tell you not to have an opinion,, that's not what my comment was about,,, Opinions are fine,,, state they are opinions and I'm with you,,, your entitled,,,

That's not the case with so many on here however,,, They write as if they KNOW that RAC isn't the man to coach this team,,,, Honestly, they don't know anything of the kind,,, And if someone disagrees with them, then you hear comments like " didn't you hear me, I said he's NOT the guy to lead this team" or something to that effect,,, As if them saying it makes it so,, Get my drift,,,

I'm glad you remain my friend,,,,, I need more cute ones

I beleive that Attack,,, but some on here don't see that... or they don't want to see that.

There is another school of thought however... what happens if we do fire RAC and then hire a coach that wants the team to switch to a 4-3 D.... Now all of a sudden we have some wrong guys,,,guys that don't fit the 4-3 like Wimbley,,, or maybe Jackson,,, for sure a guy like McGinest doesn't fit,

So now, we have to start all over again,,

My guess is that no matter who we get to replace RAC, it's gonna take a little while, like maybe 2-3 or 4 years to make the team a contender...

And inside of 1.5 to 2 years, those same fans will want hm fired also,,,,

Just a thought here, but since many are trusting that the FO can make good decisions by keeping RAC, if they happen to fire him, are those same people then believing that the FO is so dumb as to blow up the entire scheme and set us back this quickly?

I tend to believe that if we're set up for the 3-4, that the organization would realize that they have a scheme in place that would require another couple of years to change around. This would result in bringing in a DC or head coach who favors the 3-4.

Now I think too many people are instantly assuming that bringing in a new coach absolutely means scrapping the 3-4. More likely "worrying" is the right word. There's nothing that says we can't bring in a new coach while madating that we keep the 3-4 while letting Grantham run it

I'm not pointing at you D, but I am saying that I think some people are shutting off possibilities out of fears which are unrealistic. "Firing RAC could mean changing schemes and setting the team back 3 years" is just such a thought. Changing the HC doesn't mean changing everything. [/color]

Toad firing Rac means that Lerner wants a WIN WIN coach NOW..and if there are only a few out there..that HC may not want to run a 34..and even under your theory that HC isn't going to STAY in that scheme too long if he doesn't like it.

Good point. For example, lets say the Browns fire RAC and bring in Cam Cameron, the offensive coordinator of the Chargers, as I have seen some people suggest. Cameron is an offensive guy, so he may be willing to let the defense remain a 3-4, especially considering he has seen how well it has worked for the Chargers. He may let Grantham stay on, or bring in some people he knows from the Chargers to help with the defense. This would not make the previous 2 years of 3-4 personnel acquisitions worthless. Just a scenario that may not be correct, but that I could see working out.

[color:"white"]Entering the 2nd full season of rebuilding (the 2nd after the teardown year) SHOULD mean an 8-8 record. That was probably the gameplan, afterall.

Firing RAC means he doesn't think Crennel can do it. That's all it means. I can't begin to see how wanting to win games RIGHT NOW at this point in the rebuilding is a problem. We're about to have a top-5 pick and two in the top-37, while also having $33 million to spend.

I'm past the rebuilding part. Now is the time to win 7-9 games. Lerner knows it, and Savage knows it. The question is going to be whether or not they can do that with RAC or not.

that HC may not want to run a 34..and even under your theory that HC isn't going to STAY in that scheme too long if he doesn't like it.

If he was hired while knowing the defense is going to run the 3-4, he doesn't have a choice. The most likely prospect is that we hire a 3-4 guy anyway, so the point is moot.

Canning RAC doesn't mean a total rebuild. It could mean different coaches to run similiar schemes, but truthfully, I can't begin to see a situation where we go into total rebuild mode just because we fired a head coach. This isn't Butch Davis being HC and GM. This is a head coach who doesn't know jack [censored] about offense and doesn't call the personnel shots. Hell, the offensive system is going to go into flux regardless. MO was a joke and got fired. Davidson got his shot. He deserved it. He doesn't appear to be ready, but that's hard to say. Regardless, we were destined for changes on offense anyway, and I don't see how we'd blow up the defense just because we fired a head coach. That's fear talking. Big changes are coming regardless of what we do to RAC. He doesn't run this team in the way that Gibbs or Parcells does. Firing him won't make a big difference in that regard. [/color]

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.
