I'm not one to stick up for Perfect usually, but nothing he said was incorrect. Given how Trump handled himself immediately prior to, during, and especially toward the end of his presidency does not remotely give me any hope that he would try to turn things around. He had some solid people in his cabinet (Mattis) who resigned because they could not work with him. Mattis was then replaced by a Raytheon executive. Literally appointing the fox to run the hen house. And even that guy (and I can tell you Defense Contractor Executives have no souls) talked about what a disaster Trump was. Trump also did not like to be checked by people in his cabinet that did not pledge undying loyalty (Pence, Sessions, et al). All signs would point to him setting up a cabinet the next time around that would be "yes men."

Given how Ukraine has gone and all the smoke I have mentioned with Russia, combined with how the MAGA wing currently treats the Ukraine situation, all my rational thoughts point toward the situation in Europe becoming a disaster under his presidency.

I have zero faith that Biden is there mentally. None. I am in the unenviable position of vomiting in my mouth, though, to vote for another administration of Biden over what I think will be an even worse Trump term than the one before. After the debate performance, though, I think Trump wins this election cycle. I don't see that turning around. I'm down about it, though, quite considerably. If that does come to pass as I suspect, I just hope that some people see it for what it is, rather than trying to exorcist-twist their brains into somehow justifying it. That's neither here nor there, though, at this point.

If Biden decides to drop out. Who ever is nominated Goper’s will say is a worse candidate than Biden. Watch.

Lefty main stream media is pissing me off with their BS soft coverage on all the crazy crap Trump says and does daily. Meanwhile they are pushing a narrative that dems want Biden to drop out… BS. This is the centrist left establishment not wanting the most progressive POTUS of my lifetime to get an unleashed second term. All indications are that Biden soundly defeats Trump in November. The polls are being used like clickbait to make it seem like a nose-to-nose photo finish horserace. Meanwhile 54% of Americans think Trump should not be ALLOWED to run again. 54%.

How is Biden "the most progressive POTUS..."? Dude is a posterchild of establishment politician... and the only thing they are going to "unleash" him on would be a bowl of warm (not hot) oatmeal.

But how much of that 54% vote? No matter what they do I'm not voting for trump. I believe most of those on the left who want biden replaced as the candidate would still vote for him if he's not. I believe they simply think there are other candidates which stand a better chance of beating trump and I'm not sure I disagree with them. Their main goal is to beat trump.

But no matter how you slice it, the biden White House is embarrassing themselves at this point. Just today in a press briefing Karine Jean-Pierre kept stressing that jet lag due to European flights played an important part of biden's poor performance in the debate. The problem is biden hadn't flown back from Europe in something like 12 days. They really need to stop shooting themselves in the foot.

The only candidate that measures up imho is Gavin Newsome. But it’s a dead issue. Biden has already said he won’t drop out and I think, at this point, that is best for dems.

Look at the legislation he passed and the things he’s tried to fix with presidential powers. Much more progressive than the others. Not to the left of Bernie, but still progressive.

There's no way the party could run Newsom. Should anything happen between now and November, Kamkla would be president. If you honestly think the party could overlook Kamala who could become president at any moment, I believe you're severely underestimating the backlash that would cause.

Newsom is just as scummy as Trump, and he has the bonus of destroying the state of California. What sane person would vote for him. He would ruin this country more than its already ruined.

How many felonies has Newsom been convicted of again? When did a jury find Newsom sexually assaulted a woman? I think our definition of scummy are different.

He has his share of infidelities, ex wives and mistresses. If you feel that's ok, I'll take note.

I was wondering about this while listening to the debate. If Biden were to step aside and they bring in someone new, that person would be better able to deflect most if not all of the most damaging criticism Biden has been taking. It's a logical disconnect from the past 4 years. A new person wouldn't necessarily be on the hook for inflation (which may be the dumbest topic of these debates, but I'll save that for later*), but they would be able to look forward to say how they'd fix it. Similarly, they wouldn't be on the hook for 3'ish years of inaction on the border and then the GOP tanking the bipartisan bill on their watch... but they could say that they would start that process anew to finally fix a broken system.

I dunno... I have my opinions and I know not everyone shares them, but my gut tells me that all but the most hardened MAGA-folks are fine with a viable alternative to Trump. The bar is not that high.


* The whole argument over who is responsible for which economy and/or inflation is so mind-numbingly dumb. Macro trends are like the Titanic. They are set up long before a president takes office and are so large that the office has little influence in the short term. So Trump preening about how good he was doing is actually him giving props to his predecessor for setting him up so well. Biden helped set the stage for inflation by continually leaning into ridiculous spending when he took office, but again that train had already left the station with how we had dealt with COVID in the previous term.

Newsome would be a shining example of many of the things that are wrong with Democrats. I would laugh and be sick if that is who they would turn to... but he hasn't tried to undermine/overthrow a legit election (a pillar of our democracy). So he's got that going for him.

Well, if Joe drops, that’s not automatic and it will ignite the bigot vote for the right. If Biden opts out, the DNC would be an open convention. Kamala, Newsome, and whoever else gets a handful of votes would have a chance at becoming the nominee. There is no rule saying it has to be Kamala. Hell, even though I think she’s made a good VP, I’m not at all sure what a Harris presidency would look like. She’s far more center left imo, and I don’t know if she could even get the votes.

We’ll see, but my money is on Joe riding it out.

Did the black community and women vote for her in the 2020 primaries? I think her days as a prosecutor hurt her in the black community, not that she would have no support, but I think there would be fall off from Biden’s support. As for women, they would vote for her over abortion rights, but I’m not sure how well loved she is by women in her current role, they didn’t back her heavily in the 2020 primaries. Hillary had way more support from women.

I tried to make that same exact point in conversations before. I tried to compare it to the housing bubble that burst under Bush, but it falls on deaf ears. Can’t own the Libs by saying stuff like that.

Honest question - What makes you think she’s a good VP? To me, she appears to have done nothing at all. You almost forget she’s there.

The problem for the Dems as I see it if they move away from Biden is money. President Biden has already raised hundreds of millions in support. If he drops out, he can't just shove that money at some other candidate. I doubt anybody jumping in now is going to be able to raise enough money to run a campaign.

There may be some financial checkers that can be played but is going to obstacle filled. It's going to be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
