You really can't blame the Colts for resting their starters.

They didn't care if they won or lost the game.....it had no bearing on anything whatsoever for them.
People are acting like we were purposefully wronged by them.......the Colts don't care one way or another!
It's OUR fault we didn't make the playoffs, not the Colts......

I said it a week ago that we have nobody to blame but ourselves. Yeah, it sucks that Indy didn't give 2 spits about the game and just layed down, but they did what they felt was best for the team. Can you blame them? I would have loved to see them actually try, but we shouldn't rely on another team to help us out. If we did ours job, we'd be in the playoffs.

Your right Shep its not the Colts fault we didn't make the playoffs, it's our own for not taking care of business. But if the NFL is going to allow teams to not play their starters for games then why even play the game at all, why not just have the team like the Colts forfeit their last game, then none of the players risk injury. To me its about pride and wanting to put on the best possible show for the fans who are the reason the game is played in the first place.

Yep i'm serious. Nothing against the Colts but the reason the games are played are for the fans and if i'm a coach or an owner i'm going to go out and play my starters and give the fans the best game possible.

Guess that's why you'll never be a coach.... the coach plans to win it all, that's his job.. especially when you are one of a couple teams considered to have a chance to do it...
And oh by the way, the Colts fans looked to be having a right swell time in the stands to me... knowing they would go into their game in 2 weeks as healthy as they can be.

I respectfully disagree. As a fan, I want my starters healthy for the games that matter -- the playoffs.

They did play to win the game. Just with their backups. Apparently you didn't see Peyton on the sideline coaching the whole game, trying to help Sorgi (who is awful), pull out a win. They tried to win the game, they just aren't talented enough, which is why they are backups.

The Titans might actually be the worst team ever to be 10-6 and to make the playoffs.
They WILL lay an EGG against the Chargers next week. I look forward to that.
38-6 Chargers. Book it.

I'm sure they were happy about their team being in the playoffs, but i'd bet that if you asked those fans about the game they just watched most of them would say they were disappointed.
To me what the Colts did is no different then a team tanking the last game of the season to insure themselves a better draft pick. You play the games to see who's the best and to give the fans a show and to me that means you play every game like it counts.

If I were a Colts fan and I had gone to that game, I would have expected my team to probably lose since a lot of the starters weren't playing (particularly Manning). I wouldn't care though, because I would understand that those players need to be healthy for the playoffs.

This isn't a rock concert -- it's football. The coach does what he feels is best for the team.
The Colts earned the right to rest it's starters in their last game of the season. They aren't the first team to do that, and they won't be the last. I'm sure you're aware of that.....it seems to me that your problem lies in the fact that you're disappointed that the Browns aren't playing in the postseason.....and while that's understandable, I think you need to put the blame where it belongs, and that's with the Browns. Their season ended the day that they lost to the Bengals.

As i said earlier its the Browns own fault for not making the playoffs and i do not blame the Colts. I just think its cheap when a team doesn't go all out when playing a game. If it were reversed and the Browns were the ones who did it i would be disappointed in them too.

Just so I have this straight, is your problem with
a) Dungy resting his starters
or
b) The second string not playing well enough to beat the Titans (who were playing for the postseason)

To me you treat every game like it counts whether your in the playoffs are just finishing out the season.

Okay, so game day is here....Manning breaks his leg in the middle of the 3rd quarter.
After the game, Dungy thinks to himself:
a) That was stupid for me to allow him to play.
or
b) That's okay, at least we put on a show for the fans. To hell with the Superbowl anyways.

2 years ago my wife got my son and I tickets to the Cavs at Wizards game on Easter Sunday.. the Cavs had their playoff spot locked up, the Wizards were still playing to get into the playoffs, LeBron had tweaked an ankle but could have played... LeBron didn't touch the court, Z and a couple others saw less time, the Cavs got blown out early but made a decent run at the end to make it interesting... but lost. I was disappointed I didn't get to see my favorite player or my team win, but I certainly understood why.

You play the season to make the playoffs and win the superbowl... winning individual games is something you do because it usually helps you achieve that goal.. sometimes in the last week or 2, you have a team that benefits more from resting it's starters than it does winning the game.. that's just life.

I disagree, if you are playing back-ups and getting a feel for next year, and the players are playing hard, then I don't have a problem with it.. if you mean tanking as in, playing with no effort or actually letting the other team win, then I do have a problem with it... I saw the Colts play very hard the whole game, just without their stars....

Their second string QB did go all out. So did the rest of their 2nd stringers. They were high-fiving it, and celebrating good plays. What more do you want?

Their players may have played to win, but Dungy did not and coached this as a preseason or scrimmage.
Total run plays from Colts: 9
If the game plan was assembled to win considering Sorgi would QB over 2 quarters, then it makes sense to put the game in his hands? I didn't think so. Alvarez never did either.
We blew it the week earlier, but call this for what it was.
