Since the other one is locked, I will kick this off.

I don't have any news but rather a question. One of the highlights of the summer used to be training camp tweets. We are like on day 5 of training camp and there is literally nothing here or on the OBR. Is it because they are in Greenbrier? Is it because Stefanski runs one of the softest camps in the NFL? I am perusing other team's boards and they are 5, 6, 7 pages deep on camp tweets. And they are actually doing 11 on 11. What are we doing?

Why no tweets?

Last year in Greenbriar there was little coverage as well. I don't think the practices are open.

When they go to Berea it will change August 4th.

That’s the weird thing. Normally there’d be a thread aggregating all of them. I always liked that as a one stop shop for training camp coverage.

The City of Cleveland is making its pitch to the Browns to keep the team on the lakefront. The City of Cleveland proposed a $461 million deal to keep the Cleveland Browns at its current site Thursday morning. According to the city, the investment is meant to upgrade the stadium without impacting city services.

I agree that this is a perfectly accurate description of what the city is doing.

Here's an article on the proposal...

Cleveland unveils $461 million pitch to keep Browns Stadium on the lakefront
These are the first details of the proposal that City Hall has aired publicly. As the Browns are weighing a possible move to Brook Park, Cuyahoga County is staying on the sidelines for now.
by Nick Castele August 1, 2024

Cleveland can muster $461 million for a $1 billion renovation of the lakefront Browns Stadium, Mayor Justin Bibb’s office said Thursday afternoon. The announcement offers the first public look at City Hall’s pitch to keep the Browns from moving to nearby Brook Park and building a new, roofed stadium.

The proposal is short of the Browns’ ask on the lakefront. The NFL franchise told City Council members last year that it was looking for the public to take on $500 million to $600 million of a renovation that could cost $1 billion of $1.2 billion.

City Hall had previously set an internal deadline for the end of the first quarter of 2024 to come to an agreement in principle with the Browns. Now, in a letter to team owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam, Bibb is asking for a response from the Browns by Aug. 12.

In a news release, the mayor argued that building a new venue elsewhere would hurt Cleveland’s downtown.

“Losing the Browns would harm Cleveland and all Clevelanders,” Bibb said in the release. “Lower spending downtown would negatively affect tax revenues that provide essential services for a city in need. It would close businesses, cost jobs, empty out storefronts, and make our downtown feel less alive.”

The city is proposing to pay for a renovated lakefront stadium using admission tax proceeds, revenue from the Cuyahoga County sin tax, existing reserves and game day parking revenue.

The public share of the Browns’ proposed $1 billion lakefront renovation wouldn’t have to fall on the city alone. Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne’s office did not endorse either the city’s deal or a move to Brook Park in a statement Thursday afternoon.

“We are hopeful that the city of Cleveland and the Browns come to a resolution. We have not been a party to their negotiations,” the county’s statement reads. “Ultimately, the administration believes that all stakeholders need to come together to discuss a long-term vision for not just the Browns but also the Guardians and Cavaliers.”

The backbone of Cleveland’s proposal is a $347 million funding stream made up of admission tax dollars and $4 million annual payments from the county’s sin tax collections. Parking revenue from the Willard Garage and Muni Lot would generate an estimated $94 million for capital repairs and improvements.

The city would waive the Browns’ $250,000 annual rent payment, but ask the team to pick up the costs of insurance and property taxes. Those come out to $1.3 million a year, the city said.

Cleveland’s news release did not include any comment from the Browns. The team has not yet said whether it will take the city up on the deal.

All in agreement here. This is to show the people of Cleveland they tried to keep the Browns.

I saw where the offer is based on a 30 year lease. What a joke. So in another 15 years we will have to renovate again which at that point will cost how much more?

If the Browns go with a new dome, they may still need some renovations but we are talking on a 15 year old stadium v a 45 year old stadium.

I saw this article about the Browns getting Brandon Aiyuk.

https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/arti...or_brandon_aiyuk_trade/s1_16697_40697159

I am not buying this.

It would cost big in players to make the deal then cost big to absorb the money needed.

I do not see it.

I’m also not buying it. I’m guessing it would either cost us cooper plus some more capital OR we’d have another dead 1st round, maybe 2nd in the draft next year. If we had jeudy, cooper and aiyuk that would be nutzzz. I’d seriously question if Watson would be able to get them enough touches. But defenses would really struggle to know what to defend. Especially when you factor in all our other weapons.

I know it sounds strange to say but there is such a thing as having too many weapons and too much expectation that you can use them all. Somebody languishes. We’re pretty stacked as is. I would MUCH rather swing a trade for a high caliber trench player, either OL or DL. One upside to getting him is that it would mean they have their #1 WR in house for the next 3 years. Cooper, assuming he’s not gone in the trade, would walk next year and that’s that. I love cooper but he’s 30 this year and seeking a big pay day next year.

We may add or delete players from the bottom of the roster.

But I do not see the Browns picking up a $30m player. They reworked Cooper's deal and left the door open for an extension.

They signed Jeudy and extended him. Spent a second round pick to get Moore.

We have Njoku who also catches a lot of balls. We like to run. Tillman may break through this year. I don't see the value to the offense overall .

Like you said there are only so many touches to go around.

We have playmakers on offense. Sure it sounds great but it is not practical.

I try to think it through and find a deal to be made and I cannot get there.

This article explains how a deal of Cooper for Aiyuk would work.

https://www.cleveland.com/browns/20...ean-for-amari-cooper-mary-kay-cabot.html

In the end this is about the Niners and Aiyuk. Pay his price or move him. At 26 with the leverage he has in his numbers and age. He wants the money.

I am not certain the Browns would do this deal. I think they love Cooper. He already is a fit.

His price is set. The last question is about age. 30 versus 26 and would the Browns invest in Aiyuk when they finally have a first round selection.

I still do not think this deal goes down.

Aiyuk is a talent no doubt but for the first time in forever we have our team pretty much all set. AC is a big part of it and a good fit as a player and teammate. I would keep the status quo. JMO

If this deal had legs it would have happened before they paid Cooper.

If he is the same player he has been. He will get an extension after this year.

It sounds enticing but it is not practical.

I agree. I don't want us to trade away another 1st round pick. I missed drafting in the 1st even if our track record isn't the best LOL!!

Production versus cost.

Cooper last two years.
1160 yds in 2022
1259 yds in 2023.

Aiyuk last two years
1038 yds in 2022
1342 yds in 2023

There is very little difference.

Why give up picks and Cooper and pay $30+ for years to come?

Cooper will make $20. Next year there will be options.

I do not get long term in Aiyuk when it would cost Cooper and second rounder.

I view Aiyuk as a luxury that we quite frankly can't afford (and probably don't NEED, especially with the addition of Jeudy)

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

One of the factors would be Cooper is 30 and Aiyuk is 26. Not saying it is THE factor, but you'd lock up Aiyuk for the next 5 years and Cooper might be gone after this season. I'm not saying the Browns should do this or will, but there are long-term factors involved if the Browns were seriously considering this.

Great episode. It will be easy to root for this kid. It will also be interesting to see how this pick turns out. Seems evident that this was the choice of new OL coach Andy Dickerson, this was his "I want this kid". A lot of times something like this would make us cringe (or maybe even swear out loud), but those were the dysfunctional Browns of the past. This "family" approach is great as long as you have the ways and means to sculpt a final product. I feel like we do, we'll see what happens.

He was a really good player at an elite college at a position that is somewhat harder to bust at than most. I think the odds he works out are good.

I am not eager to get rid of Cooper. I know the age and contract situation, but I wouldn't want him included in any deal.
