Since its now the offseason, Tomorrow the team is coming in and beginning the offseason, so i'll start the talk.

Priorities...

1. Re-sign Jamal Lewis. First and foremost. I think we give Jamal a front loaded 2-3 year contract. The back side can be loaded with incentives. Jamal has been amazing. We need to give him what he's due but protect ourselves in case he doesnt maintain. but he shouldnt go anywhere.

2. Decide on DA. My thought would be to give him the highest tender. BQ only makes 2 mil next year and DA would only make somewhere near 3. Thats less than most starters make. so the cap hit doesnt hurt us. Now, if someone offers him a contract, and that would mean theyd be willing to part with the compensation we do it and dont look back. Any kind of uncertainty would damage this team. We either start DA or BQ. If DA is still here, it should be his job to lose. If we lose DA, BQ starts hands down. but a decision needs to be made. it would be priority #1 if we didnt have Jamal.

3. Prioritize our defensive needs and wants. our biggest struggles on D were with the run D. The pass D is fine. We have 0 starters with more than 4 years of experience. When Leigh Bodden is youre most tenured DB, youre young. with McDonald's emergence, we've shored up our secondary. Adams, Jones, Pool make good safeties. Our priorities should lie in 2 areas:
Pass Rush and Run D. We could use a person that Peek was supposed to be. If Peek can be that guy then maybe itll make spending easier. Run D, we need an additional DL. Shaun Smith could very well be our starting NT for quite a while. Robaire Smith is very acceptable. Im fine with him staying there, its the other DE spot that needs to be fixed. As good as Roye was, hes not anymore. Kelly and Fraser should be cut. If Purcell and Pittman can be players that are in our future, we keep them, and then we only need to get 1 solid DE and 1 DT for our system (unless Leonard is good). If Bobby Hamilton can be ok, then we could have a decent lineup. we could also use an ILB to become a starter. Whether its Dra (who played very well at the end of the year) or DQ (who's had a spotty year) or Leon (who hasnt gotten as much run as he could), one of them can be a starter. If we can draft or sign another or one can step up and become a capable starter, it could save us money.

4. Evaluate coaching staff. Chudzinski has been very very good all year. A little boring at the end of the year, but in all. Its been a magnificent season. Grantham however. Boy i dunno. Towards the end of the year it was better. And against SF we didnt fall into that sad prevent secondary. is he/we improving? Did Romeo do all that much to improve us? I was talking with my dad a dolphins fan about how Parcells might want Romeo. And if you look at it. We improved talent on the offensive side and we improved. Our defense didnt. Our offense got better with a new coach, and so did our special teams. Our defense kept the same coaches and didnt really improve at all. So what did Romeo really do? He still has made in game blunders and we know about his challenge record. So is Romeo the reason for our turnaround? I dunno. My guess is not as much as he couldve. Chudzinski absolutely made us better. The offensive staff should be retained. Romeo and the defensive staff need to be given a close critical eye. I only say Romeo because if Miami is interested in Crennel, and we could land the #1 pick. Maybe, just maybe itd be worth it? Who knows, thats something that could be evaluated. Also, if that is, the only way I allow that, is if we think Chudzinski could be our head coach. Then and only then.

Well the priorities are very broad and could be itemized more i suppose. But I think those are the 4 things that we most need to do and look at, at this point.

what do you guys think. What are your priorities for the Browns?

In a RARE Pre-Game Interview on WTAM with Savage...He said that the "Obvious" would be Defense...BUT we will add a piece to the Offense if something's available...

Turner RB SD
Berrian WR Bears
Johnson WR Cards

And I agree with him...We gotta do something at RB...Whether it be Lewis and a draft pick for future replacement or FA Turner...And we can definately use a Quality Wideout to go with Brey and Winslow...Jurevicious is just becoming too much of a ? every week...Age is catching up to him...Winslow's talent has overshadowed this need...But putting a dude with some SPEED out wide will open this offense up even more...

And Carter ain't that dude...

We're in great cap shape...It don't matter what we do with Anderson...We will once again be a primetime playa in FA from Day One...And as of now there's some serious upgrades available to us at the 2 most important areas we need to fix in order to TAKE a game like Cincy and seal a playoff spot...And not need this BS help we needed...

Haynesworth...Doubt he sees FA
TOMMY KELLY...Oakland...MY #1 Defensive Priority...
Briggs...LB
Dansby...LB
Suggs...LB

If we do this systematically...We can enter the 08 season as a potential FAVORITE to Take the AFC North...This team will have ARRIVED...And it don't matter who the QB is...Simply due to the OL we field and the Weapons we have obtained...Along with what I expect to be a MAJORLY improved Defense against the run...

A Tommy Kelly and Dansby/Briggs upgrades this run defense immediately...

U then turn your attention to the draft...This is where being in a 3-4 defense is a benefit to us...And what we do with Anderson is HUGE...With over SIXTY QB's starting for 32 different teams this year...A PREMIUM is put on QB's...At least 7 teams had their #1 start all 16 games...The rest were either injury related or just flat out CHITTY QB play...SOMEONE will pony up the 1st Rounder for a big arm experienced DA...THIS IS HUGE...

Your Draft Options just took a major hit for the betterment of this team...

Day one of this draft...Or should I say 1st 3 rounds since the 3rd round is on day 2 starting this year...U make your 1st rounder COUNT for immediate help...Whether it be at DL or LB...If we're in the middle of round one and this Kenny Phillips dude from Miami is available...I look real hard at him to upgrade the FS spot...That may come as a surprise to many other than VERS...lol...But he's an Eric Turner CLONE...And if he's the BAP on Savages Board he must be considered...

6'5" and 300lb Defensive Tackles can be had in the 1st 3 rounds...Tackles that move to the 3-4 END spot...Signing a Kelly and grabbin' one of these Tackles EARLY will improve the DL rotation...

6'4"+ and 260lb Defensive Ends can also be had for a 3-4 OLB spot...Look no further than a Tapp or Dummerville...These guys are too light in the ass to be 4-3 Ends...But they r PERFECT for 3-4 OLB's that can put pressure in the backfield...

This is gonna be a great off season...Savage will right the ship defensively...I have zero doubt...

Lewis, 1 year, Anderson back-up, he wont like that.. He got pulled for 1 series and whined about it.. HE WONT SIT..

Defense, front line needs changed, TOTAL OVERHAUL.

Punter/Kicker, need to start thinking about that..

Have to keep Harrison, Vickers, Sorenson,

Travis Wilson, ummmm, hit the road, top of the list..

What ever else..

Tuff season ahead dawgs, not going to be a walk in the ;park next year. And Anderson is NOT the man to lead us to the SuperBowl.

Quinn sure looked good.. It was nice to get a glimps of him.

Be safe guys, happy newyear

Lewis, 1 year,

I don't envision Jamal signing another 1 year deal. He signed this current deal to show that he still had gas in the tank, and to set him up for his next contract. We have to be careful with this one.....I would give him a 3 year deal with an option by us to void the final year. Make it based on incentives, as this year's was...

Did he whine about it? (I'm asking not to be an argumentative ass, but because I didn't catch this???

He knows what the score is......he will sit if we pay him to sit and he loses the job to Quinn.

Zastudil and Dawson are both signed through 2010 and doing excellent jobs. There is NO NEED to start thinking about that.

Serious upgrades on the D side of the ball are needed.......

I have read on here that a poster saw that Maurice Carthon might be tops of coaches available that Parcells has a relationship with. John Clayton named a couple other names I cant remember right off hand. I remember when the Browns came back, Parcells said that he wasnt interested but said that Palmer would be a great choice. Im sure Palmer will have some part in that organization.

Lets say that Parcells top priority is to get Romeo. Tampa had to give Oakland what, 2 first round draft picks, if not an additional later round pick? Didnt the Jets give the Patriots some draft picks for Parcells?

Now, I dont see Miami giving up the first pick for any coach with all the holes they have. But Parcells was hired to turn things around ASAP(Daniel Snyder) which dont always work in the long run and alot of times in the present.

But things could be interesting if Parcells wanted a couple pieces from the Browns(Crennel, DA or Quinn), they have the picks to give up in return. Of course for any name just mentioned, they would have to give up more then a 1st round pick. That 1st round pick, if owned by the Browns, would most likely be Glen Dorsey. A player that will be better then Ngata. McFadden will be the 'sexy pick' but the defense has too many holes and with the Browns o-line, Lewis and/or Turner, would do just fine. Who knows how the Arkansas boy McFadden can run in cold weather.

The number one priority this offseason will be to figure out how we are going to even win 6 games. With the NFC East and AFC South next season, we are going to have tough, tough road ahead of us.

We will likely be playing:
Titans (playoff team)
Colts (playoff team)
Jaguars (playoff team)
Pittsburgh twice (playoff team)
Dallas (Playoff team)
NY Giants (Playoff team)
Redskins (Playoff team)

Sweet Jesus, we may not win 2 games next year if we don't find a way to stop the run!!!!

Im not so sure about Briggs after last year. He held out because he was upset at Chicago for tagging him and he couldnt go aftre that huge multi-year payday. So what does the self-proclaimed "as important to this team as Urlacher" do when he finally does come back? He gets into his car drunk, wrecks it, leaves the scene, and never did have a story that added up. He also never showed this year that he is anywhere near the player Urlacher is, who consistantley makes game changing plays year after year. And like last year, this was basiclly a contract year for him and I never really heard his name all year. I know the Chicago players probabley wanted him back and him holding out might have been a distraction to the team. Is Briggs the type of player that has the fire to play top notch football after he gets paid a contract big enough to set him up financially for life?

If Chicago spends alot of money on another LB this year, I see them going after Suggs over Briggs. I personally would rather have Suggs play for the Browns then Briggs. If Suggs gets signed elsewhere for some crazy Nate Clements amount (we just saw yesterday that signing the top available FA CB isnt going to turn your season around. Over $100 million? ), then I wouldnt mind bringing in Briggs for a fair market amount. I do believe that he saw the dollar signs that Clements and Adailus Thomas signed last year and will be looking for those numbers again this year. Maybe thats why he held out, because he knew that he had players around him that made life easier for him and he wanted to get that big pay day while the gettin was good.

I do like what Tommy Kelly did in Oakland. He is by far their best tackler. He is the perfect team player. He is more about team then trying to market himself. He definately has the respect of his teammates. But where does he fit in the 3-4? My first GUESS would be in the middle where they already have high priced Andra Davis (has anyone else seen him on the sidelines alot lately giving high fives to defenders coming off the field?), the young 2nd year D. Jackson (man, this guy has some quick lateralle movement. He would be a great 4-3 LB), yound 2nd year backup Leon Williams (good size and speed, can play multiple LB positions and makes the most of his oppurtunities), and RFA Chaun Thompson. Thompson does anything asked of him. Specail teams, comes off the bench to play any LB position and has started in the 4-3 and the 3-4. Valuable backup experiance that knows the players and the schemes. Actually, Thompson had more sacks the last time he started in Wimblys OLB position then Wimbley had this year. It was close anyways.

I'll take your word on Dansby. I havnt really seen him play this season.

How about Frank Okam out of Texas. He is 6 foot 5 320 lbs. and runs a 4.9 40. He was a third team All-American this past season. He is probably better suited to play end, but he could bulk up and be a nose.

U then turn your attention to the draft
I know you meant Phil but this is the first time I haven't really looked at the draft at this point..but I will..
We're going to need a stud DE...one to take Roye's place and a ILB...one that puts DAVIS on the bench...dude can't fill a hole if it was made with donut batter

Tough to disagree with your list.

(1) I would start with coaching evaluations, that will then determine who is best to bring in, should some coaching changes take place. I am not implying RAC is gone, I doubt we let him go and hope we don't for continuity sake and because the players play hard for him. His gametime decisions need to improve, getting a better quality control (i.e. replay reviewer would be a must).

(2) Then resign our own potential FA's, starting with JL and DA (either long-term or the high tender). Friedman, N.Dorsey, Chaun Thompson, Fraser, Holly, and Kelly. Some of these won't stick to the final 53, but I want them for depth in case of injuries during camp(s).

(3) During FA work the Defense the most:
Get a run-stuffing DE/NT (my 1st choice is Corey Williams of GB), get a second DLineman, a OLB, an ILB, and perhaps another safety, for special teams and better depth.
For the offense I would like to see Justin Smiley brought in (spent most of this year on IR, but is a natual RG, as depth to Tucker and/or to push for theástarting spot.
Also bring in a good 2nd/3rd WR to push for JJ's 2nd spot if the newbie can get it, I think teams could have left Carter uncovered and not gotten hurt this year. I like Drew Carter from Carolina; not because he was a OSU player, but it doesn't hurt that he was and is a local boy, would probably be cheaper than Bernard Berrian from Chicago. Berrian would be my 2nd choice though.

(4) Then the Draft:
Unable to project if a team signs DA, or if we sign him long-term, which imo would be the best because of the fact that 64 starting QB's were used this season.

With our first gone I focus on depth more than impact players. Typically they are gone in the first round and early second. However we can still find one when our pick comes up in round 2. I get the best DL I can, unless an unbelieveable value drops in our lap. I would select another WR, an ILB, an OLB, another DB perhaps, and of course another OL (never ignore it, even when its as good as ours currently is).

(5) Getting everyone sÓgned on time and into camp to get started on winning the division and not relying on anyone but eachother for making the playoffs and winning the SuperBowl!

Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital.
Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

Savages first order of business will be addressing the coaching staff..retaining the best and looking to add to our weakest areas.

Now is the time that teams are looking to pluck away your best assistant coaches and Savage must protect against losing those coaches who helped the Browns improve.

Savage's job is to build the Browns into a Super Bowl winning team...

And Savage is a long way from being finished...there is a lot of work to do personnel wise with a focus on the defensive side of the ball.

Savage will be waiting for his phone to ring...

There are teams that need a "starting" QB and regardless of how good DA was for the Browns this season...he is an asset that could be used to help "build" this team..this franchise.

With no first round pick, Savage will be listening to those teams that enquire about Anderson.

Savage "must" do what is best for the Browns and if that means trading Anderson to get the Browns back into the first round, so be it.

Note...you could change the name from Anderson to Quinn for all I care. The Browns are fortunate to have two potential "starting" QBs in Quinn and Anderson. Though depth at QB is nice, the Browns overall team needs tip the scales in favor of a trade, IMO.

Savage has already started to shape the QB depth chart for next season. Savage secured the Browns backup position when he signed Ken Dorsey to a 3 year extension last week. Dorsey knows this offense and has played a critical role in helping to develop both Anderson and Quinn. Ken Dorsey can run this offense and is fully capable of filling the #2 QB position.

I seriously doubt that Dorsey signed a 3 year contract to be the Browns #3 QB.

1) Sign Jamal - 3 year deal if he will go that route
2) Tender DA at 2nd round. I never really liked DA - ate a little crow this year, but I don't believe he is the long term answer. Throw a 2nd round tender at him and see if anyone jumps at it. If so, say thanks and move on with another 2nd round pick.
3) focus on defense - first - do we have the right people coaching the d? second focus very hard in FA on the defensive front 7. focus very hard on the defensive front 7.
4) add a couple years to Crennell's contract
5) 3rd WR - sign DJ Hackett from Seattle (i believe he is urestricted this year)

#1 Sign Chud to a permanent contract where he would have to give up his first born son and provide 2 first round draft picks if he were to leave.

#2 Sign DA to the highest tender. Having a quality backup is essential these days, but if someone is willing to give a 1st + 3rd then I'll take it and we can sign an older FA.

#3Sign JL to a 2-3 year deal similar to this years incentive heavy contract. If he won't sign for that go for Turner.

#4 Best FA DL available either a nose tackle or end. I think Shaun Smith could be a decent starter at either, and R. Smith at the other end.

#5 DL depth. We need more than 3 people that can play.

#6 OL depth. I don't think Bently will ever be what he was. McKinney has had recent injury problems. With our OL's injury ridden history we need 2 capable backups that have the talent to step in and start.

#7 OLB opposite Wimbly. Peek hasn't cut it. Willie hasn't either. FA is an option but I think we could draft one and let Willie mentor him.

#8 Safety depth. If Jones goes down I see the secondary falling apart.

#9 Cheerleaders.

May I ask why you think Carter can't be the 3rd WR on this offense?

I don't want to hear about drops, because he hasn't dropped a single pass while here in Cleveland (although it was only like 10 passes thrown to him all year).

Maybe you have some extra info. on Carter that I'm not aware of...route running, off-field issues, what?

So- the post season is here, and the Browns are couchside, watching the games with all their O&B fans. Sad, in a sense... but let's face it- when the Browns were 0-1 after losing a home opener to a division rival to the tune of 34-7, NOBODY could have predicted that our team would go 10-6. Even if they did, they could never have predicted the way in which we got there.

What a roller coaster ride! And how long has it been since Browns fans could tune into a national sports show, and see their team in the highlights EVERY SINGLE WEEK of the season? Funyear to be a Browns fan, it was.

As I look back, the single biggest change happened when Phil Savage signed Eric Steinbach and drafted Joe Thomas. In less than a month's time, he managed to set a foundation that allowed many other things to flourish. As a result of the OL upgrades, our offense went from perennial punchline to media darling highlight machine in just one offseason.

So here's the reason for my post:

We've all discussed at length what this team needs on D to make it jump ahead like the O did this year. It's no secret among us, and we know less than Phil. Let's assume that Phil is going to attack the D situation this offseason much like he did the O last year.

What's your predix on what he'll do? Dude has surprised me every single offseason. He's signed guys who were totally off my radar, he's made draft day moves that have left me scratching my head. Most of his moves have made sense to me, later on.... but I'll freely admit that I don't ever want to play a game of chess with him. Mate in ten moves. Truth is- he's one dude who's moves I can't predict.

At present, we don't have a round 1 pick. We have 2 marketable qb's who could be used as trade bait. We have guys whom we could re-sign or replace. We have at least 3-4 big upgrades that are absolutely necessary on D. Any number of tweaks that could be made as well.

Dawgs... this is a predix thread. I'm not interested in what YOU'D do as GM... I'm asking you to pedict what you think Savage will do. That's what could make this one fun, and a bit out of the ordinary. If there's a way to archive it and revisit it in April or May, we could give a virtual beer to the poster who comes closest.

Hey... it's going to be a long offseason. I'm just trying to be creative here. Go with it, OK?

first act of business:
-resign Jamal Lewis
-and to figure out what to do with DA (tender, long-term contract, trade)

Free Agency:
since our o-line was addressed last year, this year will be all about the d-line (and linebackers). Some free agent targets should be Terrell Suggs, Albert Haynesworth, Lance Briggs. However much money can buy.

-Terrell Suggs is a freak, he is big and quick, could play both end and linebacker, and is only 25 years old. He could provide a pass rush, and that could help free up wimbely from the double teaming. The one bad thing is that it might be extremely hard to pry him away from Baltimore, especially considering he's only 25 years old.

Although i have my reservations about Haynesworth's character, i still think he would be an amazing upgrade at DT, and i think our team has strong enough leaders to keep him in check.

Lance Briggs is a great linebacker who can stop the run (which we desperately need). He has been overshadowed by Urlacher in Chicago, however still put up at least 95-100 takles a year for the past 3 or 4 years. I think he has great potential to leave chicago after they franchised him last year and never gave him the contract he thought he deserved.

i'm confident Savage will do the right thing. I will admit that i was pissed when we took Thomas 3rd overall ( i wanted A.P.), but boy was i wrong.... Thomas was huge for us this year. It turned out to be the right choice. So with that said, I have all the confidence in Savage.

Like a previous poster... first act----SIGN JAMAL!!!!!

After signing Jamal and placing the highest tender on Derek, begin addressing the defensive side of the ball.

We begin by contacting Haynesworth's agent and telling him offering a number he can't refuse. We land Albert as our DT or DE for the future!!!!

Next we throw around some more money at either Dansby, Briggs, or Suggs. Preferably Suggs so we can get him out of the division. We need another outside guy and I think he is the best one available. It would be wondeful to get both he and either of the other two to sure up the inside, but with the money put into Suggs and Albert, we have to save some for the draft picks because now we have a 1st and another 3rd after making a deal with either the Bears, Vikings, Chiefs, or Panthers. I don't see Parcells giving up #1 overall for Derek Anderson unless we add more to a deal. As much as I would want Asante Samuel in FA too, he will want Bailey/Clements money and Cleveland can't be too frivolous.

Next we enter the draft looking to add depth and fill holes.

In the 1st round... depending upon draft position and what we've addressed in FA to this point.... I think the Browns could take an ILB (Laurinaitis or Connor) if Briggs or Dansby wasn't brought in. If Suggs wasn't brought in...look for an OLB (likely a college DE such as Gholston). Either way I think our first round pick will be a LB!!!! Unless, Parcells goes retarded and gives us #1 overall for DA and a few extras.... then we have to get McFadden!! I love Lewis, but imagine DMac in a Browns uni for the next 10 years. This would really please the disappointed AP pimps of last years draft.

In the next 6 rounds... I look for savage to get DL help in round 2, and concentrate on the offense for round 3 (WR and RB) This years RB class seems to be very deep so there should be some great talent left in the 3rd. Maybe Hart or Felix Jones will be left. I also like James Davis if he comes out this year. I like the WR from Kentucky (Burton I believe) along with a handful of others. In round 4 through 7 nothing but DEFENSE!!! No LB's, just CB's and DE's looking to strike gold in the late rounds.

As a last matter of business.... look at some more FA's. We'll need a backup QB and I look for Savage to pick up someone that has been dropped by a club after they sign an 08 QB draft pick or pick up a FA or trade. So possibly Grossman, Carr, Fitzpatrick, Harrington(my choice)---unless.. Chiefs pick a QB or trade for one and release Huard.

We have no 1st round pick this year. Seems a lot of people keep forgetting that.

The very fact that people forget that is beyond me...how can they forget the Brady trade????

Unless they expect to have a 1st via a trade of Anderson OR QUINN, I think they each have about the same amount of odds to either be or not be on this team next year.

Tender DA with the highest restricted free agent offer. Whether he is "the future" or not, the smart GM makes everyone think value without the bull of the tag.

Let Jamal Lewis walk unless he agrees to a favorable contract. Watch the tapes - the cut and explode is gone... He still is a downhill truck and for that Cleveland will love him - yet we are leaving suppa on the table...

FA and the draft look the same - best players to fill organizational needs. The surprise is that it is WR - S - DL

Dawgs... this is a predix thread. I'm not interested in what YOU'D do as GM... I'm asking you to pedict what you think Savage will do.

I merged it with the existing offseason priorities thread because what folks think Savage will do is where they think the priorities are. Same same.

Happy new Year.

1) bolster the DL with one stud FA and one stud draft pick in 2nd round
2) tweener OLB to eventually replace Willie McG. Mid round value draft pick.
3) safety depth. FA (preferable) or value draft pick
4) C/G draft pick in one of the later rounds for depth and development
5) bring back Jamal Lewis, Wright and Harrison good as depth.
6) bring back Anderson for depth if nothing else.
7) better FB depth
8) decide if Carter or Wilson can "cut it" as a # 2 WR. If not , look for a value pick in the draft.
9) coaches: some may leave for greener pastures (promotion). Get the best available ASAP in the offseason
10) use this season for positive momentum when interviewing coaches,FAs and potential draft picks at the combines and post season bowl games which are coming soon.

I would say secure what you have at a realistic price (LeCharles, etc.). Get them in place if playable; enough crapshoot projects 9unless unquestionable bargains). Sign Jamal; make it incentives galore and a sig bonus.
Or shop. He is a good fit; better be a Brown if he's on the Pond.

I would deal Anderson if interest is hot even after his end of year crappy play. If he can get us into the first roundm maybe a bit more, do it. But Quinn better be it. And Dorsey better be adequate.

We need to replace Grantham; review the D and techniques. Hungrier groups who tackle and cover. MAKE RAC be on that page if he is staying. And we need a belly-cutting pass rusher opposite Wimbley.
We ought to shop another placekicker as well.
Next year (again), with feeling and little forgiveness in me heart, mates!
Doc Savage, you are wanted in surgery!

Pretty good thinking.

In House:

---I think it would be smart to sign DA quickly. We can either keep him or take the first and third for him.

---I also think Lewis will sign a 2 year deal w/a team option for the third. I doubt if he sees the third, but I think he can give us one more very good year and still be effective enough to rotate w/our back of the future two years from now.

---I would probably do something w/Chud's contract. Try to lock him up as best we can.

Free Agency and Draft:

---We need at least two defensive linemen [actually three, but I don't think we can pull that off] who will be integral members of the rotation. We really need a NT who eats blockers like cheeseburgers.

---We need a FS who can be relied on to play a one deep safety. We need a smart guy who can adjust coverages. We need a guy w/good instincts. This alone will help the run defense tremendously.

---We need a pass rushing OLB to play opposite Wimbley. Of course, if he plays on that side, he is also going to have to be stout against the run. But, our lack of pressure on the QB is killing us. We have to at least get hurries. I actually think hurries are more important than sacks.

---It would be nice to get a 3rd WR. I think Cribbs should be given a look, but I am a bit miffed that he didn't get many opportunities this year. Maybe he just doesn't get it at WR???? Carter is a puss bag and Joe is getting older. We probably need to bring in yet another WR this year.

---Savage and RAC need to get a muzzle for all the lame-brained fans who are starting a QB controversy. Let the men in charge handle it.

happy new year everybody

my toughts:

-- resign jamal. his presence made a difference and I'd love to see the browns keep him around for 2 - 3 years. I love his tough running, and as shaft said, he's a downhill truck and but we need that kind of back here. I love how he took jerome harrison under his wing to help him train. I have a feeling he likes it here and wants to stay.

-- I don't think we'll get a RB, unless miami is stupid enough to give us the 1st pick somehow. then we get mcfadden.

-- i'm thinking that everybody's favorite inactive player jerome harrison gets a chance to prove that he can carry some of the load next year.

-- i'm expecting that we'll get 2 big FA signings, briggs and suggs. we'll probably get another D-lineman or 2 similar to how we signed the smiths. that'll help the rotation. Romeo loves LBs so it'll probably push guys like sean thompson and stewart out.

-- if we get suggs, no tweener. If we don't, best pass rusher we can draft.

-- big ted and roye probably are gone. Roye is the one that hurts, mainly because he's been with the browns so long, and the browns are respectable for the first time since he's been here.

-- we'll use the 2nd and 3rd picks on the best DL we can get

-- I think Travis Wilson gets one more year. The guy needs to spend a lot of time with Joe J in the off season and learn to be a professional. all the talent, just needs a good influence to help get his mind right.

-- lock up chud with big $$$ to keep him here.

-- I think pool gets another chance (sorry Vers) mainly because he's one of savage's first picks. he's savage's sean thompson: great athlete, but doesn't seem to have it upstairs. we may get another safety if there's somebody worth picking up

-- if the ravens get blown up, then the browns pick up some of the players. we saw with Z, jamal, anderson that savage keeps in contact with players.

-- my gut says that DA is here next year, unless somebody is really needing a QB. I don't think that's a bad thing. The browns are in a situation that we haven't had in years! we have a RFA QB that somebody may want!

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I think Savage will get DA tied up so that it will require a 1st & 3rd for him.

I think he'll make good on his threat to address the D front 7 this offseason. We ranked at the bottom of the league and I'm certain that he knows we ain't winning any superbowls with that type of D.

I think PS will work hard to get us back into the first round of the draft this year...especially if he's not satisfied with what FA was able to bring us.

I've been saying right along that I like what PS has been trying to do since his joining us. He brought in Bentley right off the bat (hasn't worked out but that's not his fault - it's just typical Browns luck)

I'm sure he'll get JL signed (to the shortest contract he can - and load it with incentives - that's worked well so far).

We are now a team that looks like it's going places....with some depth...with a fan base that can't be topped...and coaches that are liked by the players. I think that we're more attractive to FA's and just MIGHT be a fashionable place to play.

I don't know if these were directed toward my post since they fell right after mine, but if you read my whole post.... I saw we have a 1st round pick after one of either 4 or 5 teams matches and we get their 1st and 3rd...

If this wasn't directed at me then I'm sorry, but I felt the need to show I do know where the team stands right now. (without a 1st round pick)

I think Savage will fix the D-line much as he did the O-line. He will start at inside ( NT ) and move out then to the LBs. He will use FA and the draft. He will not draft McFadden if we somehow get Miami's 1st rounder. I thought we all learned our lesson last year about the importance of fixing the lines first. He will probably take Dorsey out of LSU.

I could be wrong, but isn't Dorsey about 6'1" 300... not quite big enough is he?

I tell you what, with the way our season played out with being competitive and winning games and the play of the OL....It completely slipped my mind until i read your post that LeCharles Bentley was on our roster!
How cool will it be if he comes back in in any semblance of the dominant force he once was?

We will likely be playing:
Titans (playoff team)
Colts (playoff team)
Jaguars (playoff team)
Pittsburgh twice (playoff team)
Dallas (Playoff team)
NY Giants (Playoff team)
Redskins (Playoff team)

Sweet Jesus, we may not win 2 games next year if we don't find a way to stop the run!!!!

Here we go again

Last year the same thing was said about our schedule. Cincy and Baltimore were supposed to be playoff teams. Denver and Jets were. Seattle was. Arizona and Miami were supposed to be the big surprises.
Any talk of how this team will do next year due to the schedule is nonsense, IMO.
