JMHO, Stolen Valor "issue"= ain't it funny or sad- depending on your lens- always as the who, what, where, when, why, how......VD Vance accuses Tim Walsh of "stolen valor"--VD spent four years in the US Marine Corps and deployed for six months to Iraq---in his book, VD admits he never saw any fighting,,,,,but he was in a combat zone so that makes him MORE heroic than Tim.....Vance was a Marine enlisted combat correspondent- he would fight the enemy with his pen, paper, maybe a camera. He had four years of service and really NEVER was in danger. Tim Walsh, enlisted at 17 in National Guard, spent 24 years in service to his state and country AND decided to retire....and pursue POLITICS....he trained using guns and cannon lots more than VD Vance did.....bottomline- both VP candidates served in the military---one for a lot longer than the other. If you compared rank, medals, service, and "valor"---neither should badmouth each other- both served. Politics- both now will twist the truth and try to make each other look worse to the voters. Ain't they grand.

I'm just wondering what you expected from a Captain Bone Spur clone? They Swift Boated John Kerry over his service when he ran. Trump attacked John McCain's service by saying, "He's not a war hero. He's a war hero 'cause he was captured. I like people that weren't captured, OK?" This is a pattern we should have learned to expect. John McCain was more willing to give his service, his life and his dedication to this nation than the lot of them and they spit in his face. Now they want to make a man who with his felony record couldn't even get in the military the Commander In Chief of the military. Ronald Reagan must be rolling over in his grave.

What's more, Walsh put in for his retirement before his unit even before his unit was alerted they were going to be deployed.
That's before they were notified, and before they started their pre-deployment stuff. I believe the date he put in for retirement ended up being a full year before his unit shipped out.

Yeah, it almost seems like a pointless you-know-what measuring contest. Perhaps those who served can chime in and give their perspective to the whole thing, but this seems like a nothing-burger. Walz has been clear about the fact he did not see combat, and Vance hasn't either.

"1. They are trying to 'Swift Boat' Tim Walz. 2. Walz served 24 years in the Army National Guard. 3. Vance went to Iraq as a 'combat correspondent', or military journalist. He did PR for the Marines. 4. DONALD TRUMP HAD FAKE BONE SPURS TO DODGE THE DRAFT!"
EVE, your hero never had bone spurs and has called military personnel "suckers and losers"- and the convicted felon wants to be dictator/ no President.
Eve, thank God every day you have better people/citizens protecting you every night. And Trump isn't fit to be a military member, let alone President.

So, Walz was in the national guard? Where did he serve? Or was it just weekends.
This whole "served" thing is over rated, in my opinion. Where did Trump serve? No where. Where did Biden? No where. Where did Obama? No where. Where did Clinton serve? No where. Reagan? No where.

Walz deployed in August 2003 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The Minnesota National Guard told CBS News the battalion supported security missions at various locations in Europe and Turkey. Walz was stationed at Vicenza, Italy, at the time and returned to Minnesota in April 2004.
Anything else?
Trump had "bone spurs".

This whole "served" thing is over rated, in my opinion. I realized that maybe you thought I should be somehow obligated to address the second part of your post. So I will. Since you feel it's overrated maybe you should inform J. D. Vance that he shouldn't be attacking his opponents military service since he is the one who brought the whole thing up and is making a big deal out of it.

Amen----Vance the real warrior with his pen/pencil writing PR dribble in the way, way, way back lines in Iraq. What a stud.
Both served honorably- one for four years, the other over 20 years and retired after long, dedicated SERVICE. What a concept.

He deployed and carried a weapon, but never saw direct combat. Vance is trying to make that into a big deal even though... he did the exact same thing. The Don doesn't claim military service because he dodged it. One of the few times he follows common sense and avoids a shameful topic.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Republicans are questioning Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s military record after Vice President Kamala Harris named him as her running mate this week. Here’s a look at the issue: He retired before his unit’s deployment to Iraq Walz served a total of 24 years in various units and jobs in the Army National Guard. But it’s his retirement in 2005 that’s prompting criticism from some Republicans who are suggesting he abandoned his team to pursue a campaign for Congress. As he ramped up for a congressional bid in 2005, Walz’s campaign in March issued a statement saying he still planned to run despite a possible mobilization of Minnesota National Guard soldiers to Iraq. According to the Guard, Walz retired from service in May of that year. In August 2005, the Department of the Army issued a mobilization order for Walz’s unit. The unit mobilized in October of that year before it deployed to Iraq in March 2006. Advertisement There is no evidence that Walz timed his departure with the intent of avoiding deployment . But the fact remains that he left ahead of his unit’s departure. In a statement, the Harris campaign pushed back on GOP characterizations of Walz’s service, and also noted that he advocated for veterans once he was elected to the U.S. House. RELATED COVERAGE Image Pro-government fighters attack areas of US-backed fighters in east Syria. 2 killed Image A rocket attack at an Iraqi military base injures US personnel, officials tell AP Image What Iran’s attack against Israel could look like with the support of regional allies “After 24 years of military service, Governor Walz retired in 2005 and ran for Congress, where he chaired Veterans Affairs and was a tireless advocate for our men and women in uniform — and as Vice President of the United States he will continue to be a relentless champion for our veterans and military families,” the campaign said. Before leaving Detroit, where she and Walz played up their support for organized labor, Harris on Thursday responded to a question about the criticism of her running mate’s record. “Listen, I praise anyone who has presented themselves to serve our country,” she said. “And I think that we all should.” Walz didn’t serve in a combat zone Earlier this week Harris’ campaign circulated on X a 2018 clip of Walz speaking out against gun violence, and saying, “We can make sure that those weapons of war, that I carried in war, is the only place where those weapons are at.” That comment suggests that Walz portrayed himself as someone who spent time in a combat zone.Advertisement According to the Nebraska Army National Guard, Walz enlisted in April 1981 — just two days after his 17th birthday — and entered service as an infantryman, completing a 12-week Army infantry basic training course before graduating from high school. While attending the University of Houston in 1985, he was reclassified as a field artillery cannoneer as a member of the Texas Army National Guard, later serving as an instructor with the Arkansas Army National Guard. In 1987, Walz returned to Nebraska’s Guard detachment, continuing field artillery assignments while he completed a college degree. By 1996, he transferred to the Minnesota Army National Guard. In 2003, he deployed to Italy in a support position of active military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. But he was not in a combat zone himself.“Do not pretend to be something that you’re not,” Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance said Wednesday as he campaigned in Michigan. “I’d be ashamed if I was saying that I lied about my military service like you did.” Advertisement Vance enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating high school, serving four years as a combat correspondent, a type of military journalist, and deploying to Iraq in that capacity in 2005. Neither Trump nor Harris has served in the U.S. military. Trump received a series of deferments during Vietnam, including one attained with a physician’s letter stating that he suffered from bone spurs in his feet. The Harris campaign statement said Walz “would never insult or undermine any American’s service to this country” and “thanks Senator Vance for putting his life on the line for our country. It’s the American way.” What about his rank? Harris’ campaign has referred to Walz as a “retired Command Sergeant Major,” one of the top ranks for an enlisted soldier. He did in fact achieve that rank, but personnel files show he was reduced in rank months after retiring. That left him as a master sergeant for benefits purposes.

Vance "went to war" with a typewriter. Served for 4 years. Walz served over 24 years. Carried a weapon but not in a combat zone. This dick-measuring contest was kicked off by Vance and Trump (one went to Iraq cheering "the pen is mightier than the sword", and the other's weapon of choice was fake bone spurs). It's ridiculous because the ones doing the braying have no leg to stand on whatsoever. The fact that this is the best your team's got in terms of 'dirt' on its opposition must be driving you nuts. This is as weak as it gets.

It sickens me that both of you were attacked. This attack on Waltz is a big nothing burger. His comment about carrying a weapon in war is a stretch but I’m not sure he meant it that way. There is plenty of things to attack him on imo but this ain’t one.

I agree. I have no idea why they keep doubling down their attacks in these areas of focus. There is ample room for substantive attacks, but they keep going for personality attacks and stuff like this. As you can see with some, the dog whistle appears to be working, but I don't understand how this will positively sway independents to their side.

As you can see with some, the dog whistle appears to be working, but I don't understand how this will positively sway independents to their side. Because Chris LaCivita is trumps campaign co manager-he was the one who started the swift boat campaign against John Kerry-they are reliving their greatest hits to see if something sticks-

As an x Vietnam era serviceman I know what it’s like to be called names by others when returning home. It’s simply deplorable to put x servicemen and women down this way. Typical Goper ploy, started by private bone spur.

Walz never returned home from a combat zone, because he never went. But he sure lied like he did. STOLEN VALOR. SHAME.

So, Walz was in the national guard? Where did he serve? Or was it just weekends.
This whole "served" thing is over rated, in my opinion. Where did Trump serve? No where. Where did Biden? No where. Where did Obama? No where. Where did Clinton serve? No where. Reagan? No where. This is the worst, most meaningless post by you ever.. A NEW LOW. If we were talking about Vance, you would NOT feel as you do. If you remembered that Trump didn't serve. AT ALL.. I appreciate all of those that served and I don't question how they choose to serve.

Shady Vance wouldn’t make a pimple on Walz ass in military terms. Walz was command Sargent Major and the highest ranking ‘enlisted’ man to ever serve in congress. You can’t steal that Valor. And JD Vance NEVER SERVED. The man did, but his name was different. He served before one of his 3 legal name changes. Dude is a chamleon.
