Actually some of his fellow soldiers from his unit ( including his commanding officer) are questioning him. I think that this all started with them.

And some in his unit support him. I suppose it's a question of which of those people you choose to listen to and support to form your opinion on. A "big story" is stolen valor....about a guy who for his own good---a new concept for some---- retired after 24 years of service--- his stolen valor- he embellished his record- stated he retired as an E-9 vs E-8...what an outrage- he was absolutely unreplaceable- he alone was to keep his whole unit safe and well oiled. He was replaced, his unit did well, AND he got elected to Congress. All the belly archers- including a preacher= ain't he a great Christian debasing a fellow soldier- they are ALL underachievers who seem jealous of his accomplishments in MHO.

Stolen valor when the top Rep candidate is a convicted felon, civilly convicted of rape, faces how many inditements, and is still talking about the 2020 election he didn't lose, he didn't support an attempted coup, stated he'd get Mexico to pay for wall, his buddies stolen "Build the Wall" moneys, he stated wall was almost/ or was finished and yet today as an ex-President of USA billionaire he lies about everything- taxes, build sq ft, and sells= shirts, hats, action figures, steaks, sneakers, trading cards, on and on....VERY PRESIDENTAL....and best of all- has Republican Party paying his legal bills cus he put family running the Party.....now HE is really filled with honor and valor----- the biggest JOKE of our lifetimes. Walz retired two months before his unit received official orders for a deployment to Iraq in 2005. To retire at that time he had to have previously filed the paperwork which is sometimes done months in advance although I have found no record of how long before his retirement he had filed the paperwork. Any National Guard member can retire at any point after 20 years of service.

To claim that such allegations and attacks concerning his service in the military are not to undermine his service is to blindly ignore they are. Vance claims they aren't but anyone with eyes and ears knows better.
