http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7621108?MSNHPHMASources: Ravens fire Billick after disappointing yearDespite his insistence that his job was safe, the Brian Billick era in Baltimore is over. Sources: Ravens fire coach Billick The team fired their head coach Monday, FOXSports.com has learned, capping an extremely disappointing season. This comes one day after FOX Sports reported that the players and other employees informed team owner Steve Biscotti that Billick had completely lost the locker room and could not win them back. Billick was hired as an offensive guru but during his tenure it was his defenses that won for the Ravens, especially their Super Bowl title. Over time Billick was unable to get his QBs to star and his offenses stalled year in and year out. Earlier this year he proclaimed that he had been given the vote of confidence from Biscottit but that was never confirmed and was obviously not true.

I have been waiting on a link for this story. Got a call about an hour ago letting me know he was gone.
A bit surprised as I thought they would give him one more year. However their offense has been so bad, plus the losing streak they had didn't help.
Wonder who they go after. Hopefully they keep their mitts out of our staff.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

I'm not happy about this!!!! I wanted Billick to stay forever. We beat them twice this year because he couldn't generate O. Darn.
Now let's hope they whiff even worse on their next coach!

Ravens | Team fires Billick Mon, 31 Dec 2007 10:36:46 -0800
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Baltimore Ravens fired head coach Brian Billick Monday, Dec. 31. Billick was originally hired as an offensive minded coach but during his time as coach the defense was more of a factor then the offense. Players and employees said Billick had lost the locker room and could not win them back.
Losing the locker room is a deathnail for a coach.

I heard on ESPN radio this morning that Baltimore management was polling the Ravens players, asking them if Billick had lost the players support and if so, could he get that support back.
Guess the players poll was "NO"...WOOF...mac

As long as Ray Ray keeps aging while not realizing it, this could continue their unraveling.
The only painful thing - Troy Smith looked decent. Man, I don't want to see him succeed in Baltimore of all towns!!!

Chud could be promoted to assistant head coach...that might help.

I have to admit I was glad the Ravens won yesterday, as it dropped their draft pick and I had hoped it might keep Billick around. With Neuheisel gone, and now Billick, I wonder if Rex Ryan gets the promotion or if he gets signed somewhere else. Ogden and McNair look like they are on their way out, and with only 5 million in cap room, they wont be active in FA.... ahhhh Ravens in turmoil.

Hopefully he wants to stay and finish what he started.

looks like Baltimore is going to rebuild then. Should be interesting to see who is at the top of their list for Head Coaches perhaps Ozzie still has Marty on speed dial. He actually would be a good fit for that team IMHO.
If you need 3 years to be a winner you got here 2 years to early. Get it done Browns.

This is perhaps the first step in getting Suggs here. With a new coach on the horizon for the Rats and a potential rebuilding, this may be to Savage's advantage to jump on the Suggs train.
I can't see him wanting to stay around for a team that is going to begin rebuilding. He's going to want to play for a winning franchise.
It'll be even more curious as to who they hire for a replacement.
And the next head coach is ......

I did make a comment on another thread concerning Savage's priorities...retaining our best coaches and looking to improve our weaknesses in the coaching staff would be the first priority Savage would face.
Hopefully Savage is handing out bonus checks to the coaching staff for a job well done.... ....WOOF...mac

Not saying it won't happen that someone comes after him, but I have the feeling that Chud wants to be here and my hope is that he takes over for RAC at some point in the future..

Here's from ESPN Quote:
Owner says Billick will not return as Ravens coach ESPN.com
Updated: December 31, 2007, 2:13 PM ET Comment Email Print Less than a year after signing him to a contract extension through 2010, the Baltimore Ravens on Monday fired coach Brian Billick.
The dismissal of Billick was confirmed to ESPN's Chris Mortensen by owner Steve Bisciotti and to ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli by an assistant coach and a front office official.
Billick, 53, compiled an 85-67 record in nine seasons. The Ravens, who won the AFC North championship in 2006, struggled to a 5-11 mark this season, a year that included a nine-game losing streak.
In his second season with the franchise, Billick led the Ravens to the Super Bowl XXXV title in 2000, but never got the club back to the title game.
Only a few weeks ago, Billick proclaimed that he would return in 2008, but Bisciotti, who does not speak during the season, made no statement to that effect.
At his day-after-game news conference on Dec. 11, with his team wounded by seven consecutive losses, Billick declared that he would be back next season. But a team spokesman, when later contacted by The Baltimore Sun, would not confirm that Bisciotti had told Billick his job was safe.

Is he the next coach of the Miami Dolphins?

Is anyone truly surprised by this move (well, maybe other than Billick! LOL). Only thing that surprised me was that they did it already! I wasn't sure how quickly they'd pull the plug on Billick's career as a HC (at least for the Ravens).

Billick Relieved of Coaching DutiesDecember 31, 2007Mike Duffy Printer friendlyEmail this storyIncrease font sizeDecrease font sizePrevious ArticlesRSS
Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti will hold a press conference today at 3:30 p.m. that head coach Brian Billick will be relieved of his duties.
“This is the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make,” Bisciotti said.
Billick was told of the move late Monday morning, one day after the Ravens ended an unprecedented nine-game losing streak by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-21.
Billick, who owns an 85-67 record after nine years in Charm City, then met with his assistants. Bisciotti made sure to meet with the players at 2:00 p.m., followed by team employees at 2:30.

Chud has done a nice job for us this year, but it's hard for me to believe that teams are going to really chase a guy who has only one year of experience as a coordinator. We all got so excited about Grantham, and this year, a lot of people really wondered if he should be let go. And (hopefully ) Chud's love of the Browns keeps him herÙ for a while. Can't say I'm surprised Billick was fired. That Rats team fell apart early. I still just love that so many "experts" predicted the Rats to be a Super Bowl contender, even though many of us realized that their stars were getting older and more injury prone, and the number of huge egos on that team would cause problems.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Yeah, but I don't necessarily see Baltimore with the weapons on offense that we have (barring some offseason signings, a ridiculously good draft, etc.) They're going to lose their HOF LT, their QB situation is a mess, and their receivers certainly don't scare me.
On the other hand, we had a top 3 pick WR who is a Pro-Bowler this year, a stud TE (which the Rats have in Heap, I will admit) who could have easily been a Pro Bowler this year, a QB who did well for us this year and a first round pick waiting in the wings, a RB who put up over 1,000 yards, and an OL that did a great job this year with a rookie pro-bowler LT.
Also, let's not discount the fact that we have a return man who consistently sets us up with fantastic field position, which makes it a lot easier to score.

Well, we can talk about the Rats' O as much as we want, but we have to remember that their D wasn't exactly striking fear into people's hearts like in years past, either. We put up points on them. If Suggs walks (to us or someone else), Ray Ray ain't what he used to be. Reed and McAlister are tough, but the days of the Ravens having such a scary defense are over, IMO.
But, don't get me wrong, they're still a good defense. But they have a lot of work to do for their offense and will more than likely have some holes to fill in on their defense, big holes. Also, who knows what type of defense they'll be running. They might not necessarily have the right personnel right now if a new coach wants to bring in a new system.

Not that I want this to happen at all,, but try this on for size.. Chud becomes the Ravens head coach,,, we High tender DA,, Chud tells Ozzie,, get me anderson, give up whaever you got to get him... They give up a 1st and 3rd pick, we give up DA... then we snag Suggs in FA.. Chud takes over, they lose horribly, Chud is fired and is back with the browns inside of 13 months.. Ahh, come on,, you know I was kidding right

My first reaction days ago on the speculation that he would be fired is that I really wanted him there...we knew what to expect and we matched up well against his coaching.
But still I have grown to dislike him so that my first reaction upon hearing of his firing. was one of glee or more so
I just have grown to dislike him as much as the Ravens. They sort of went hand in hand.
Now that I had time to reflect on it for a couple of hours...My thoughts go to that of fear. Fear that Oz will raid our cupboard. Actually Marvin Lewis probably would be the best coach for them...but I'm afraid of them going for Chud.
My son a big time Cowboys fans thinks that "A" team will go after Garrett.
I doubt if Parcells sniffs at him.

I don't think Billick is a bad coach. I can't stand the guy, but I think he knows what he is doing.
I also think that it's a tough business. The guy had a really good winning percentage, won a Super Bowl, and won 13 games just a year ago.
Damn............it is a tough business!

Rex Ryan is a pretty damn good football coach and I never celebrate a coach getting fired.
Glad to see their team struggling, but I don't rejoice at another man's misfortune.
