1. He’s being honorable
2. He’s done with the Dem party
3. He’s getting ahead of a whistleblower

Either way this is a VERY HARD letter to write.

Stopping more Americas from dying based on crazy Covid conspiracies is not, or at least should not be considered some liberal plot. But then again I guess if not allowing more American deaths could be made political your ilk have certainly done that. That's what putting party over country looks like. The FBI isn't an arm of the Biden administration. Until trump came along and FBI director was appointed by who ever was president and remained so through administrations of both parties for a minimum of ten years. But since things haven't gone your way you have once again created a boogie man that doesn't exist.

Not really.

The letter states pressure was put on Meta - and they decided to remove some content.

Meta did not "work with" Biden/Harris to censor Americans ... they did not work with Biden/Harris at all - Meta did not remove all the content that was requested - Meta said they felt the pressure was wrong and they wish they had been more outspoken about it. I am certain Meta "censor" content every day which can be framed to sound sinister - but I'd warrant Truth Social also does the same.

In a separate incident - the FBI warned Meta about potential Russian disinformation. And they say as a result they 'demoted' coverage of a story about Biden's family corruption from the NY Post - and afterwards said they shouldn't have.

Neither case is working with Biden/Harris. I'd hope every social media organization monitors and reacts to some posts online and retracts them if they feel they are harmful. I'd like legislation in place to hold SM platforms accountable for false narratives that are put on SM that result in real world suffering, injury, loss of income etc ... With that said, even though I assume Trump's administration similarly put pressure on SM platforms during his term, it was wrong for either administration to push for censorship if there is not legislation in place to do so. Personally I find the FBI getting involved and providing faulty and incorrect information to Meta more concerning than any of the rest of it.

As with every social media outlet they have terms of service which you agree to when you join. Included in that is their ability to restrict content, and even ban you if you continue breaking the terms of service.

That is not what the letter says at all and is patently false. During a health emergency where over 1.1 million Americans died FB decided not to allow conspiracy theories and fake cures be posted which they felt might help increase deaths from the virus. That isn't "working with the Biden administration".

The FBI isn't a part of a presidential administration either. It's not my comprehension that's an issue here. It's not my fault that people are trying to falsely state that FB worked with Biden.

No one has figured out how to handle this.

If false information is being spread through a media platform like Facebook or Instagram, it is due diligence of the government to notify the media platform that false information is being spread. It should be the responsibility of the media platform to moderate that content.

The challenge is defining the difference between false information and a difference of opinion.

You can call the notification pressure or censorship if you wish, but you have to communicate the issue somehow. It's easy, and somewhat lazy just to say that any government communication to a media platform is pressure or censorship.

But it is the difference between speaking in generalities and the specifics of each occurrence.

I think the big mistake on various posters thoughts was that they assumed what the specifics were, when the letter only describes generalities.

i.e. don't jump to conclusions when you don't have all the facts.

Edit: And a media company such as Facebook/Instagram should work with government entities (not just Biden/Harris) when false information is contained in its content. That is reasonable, and the same would apply to the prior Trump/Pence administration.

FB, Twitter, all SM was pressured by the White House to put the kibosh on anything COVID that didn't end in "stand in line, get your shot, do it for grandma". They called any language that supported their narrative "science!" any one that didn't "far-right conspiracy theories of a madman!". Problem is, both sides of the aisle were mere opinion, conjecture and hypothesis... but only one received any scrutiny.

The govt was asking him to demote content about COVID-19 during the pandemic. It sounds like in some cases they followed through with the govt request. That's not "working with" the govt. If you're going harp on reading comprehension, please tell me how "repeatedly pressured our team for months.... expressed frustration with our teams when we didn't agree" amounts to "working with the govt".

It also sounded like (correct me if I'm wrong) they didn't even censor anyone. At least the letter doesn't explicitly say so. They didn't say they censored anyone over the COVID stuff (and the context around that leads me to believe they largely didn't), and they said they only demoted the stuff related to the (not) Russian disinformation campaign on the Bidens. Might be splitting hairs here, but demoting posts isn't the same as censoring, as they're leaving it out there to be found but it's not jumping up higher in people's feeds. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this last part.

I'm not trying to downplay the important debate behind this letter (free speech vs content moderation in social media), but the Twitter clown you linked and his talking points from the letter are demonstrably wrong.

Ultimately the media company has the right to accept or reject any report of inappropriate content.

There's a clip out there of Zuckerberg responding to a question in one of these hearings, and he basically said (I'm paraphrasing here) that if a politician or influential person is putting lies out there, then he wants people to see that (to see this person is a liar).

I agree with that idea, I just don't think the execution has made it a reality.

I never said that anyone who questioned anything didn't care about the lives of others. Even though most of them were based on nothing but pure suspicion with nothing to base them on. So whether intended or not, that's the end result. Undermining the only thing we had to help slow the cure of Covid. But what a responsible social media corporation wouldn't do is try to undermine science based on false or unsubstantiated claims in the midst of a health crisis that was killing Americas in such huge numbers. And yes, those promoting fake cures if they didn't care about American lives they certainly weren't putting that first on their priority list. Sadly most of those things were being pushed for purely political reasons to undermine the administration at the time. Party over people. People were even selling fake cures for profit.

I will say he was compensated by the organization he worked for for his time developing the vaccine, But then we all get paid for the work we do. And the compensation was far less than many reported when trying to smear his name.

You were definitely correct about what he said in the first video. But at the same time the vaccine did show that most people would have much less severe symptoms if they had gotten the vaccine.

In the second video it's simply the longer the virus went on the more they learned about it. So such recommendations changed. At first they were telling us to wash our hands, surfaces and even wash our groceries. So if you mash up a video showing quotes from when it first broke out until later those quotes will contradict each other. Any mask was better than no mask but the effectiveness certainly varied. And in case you missed it, not everyone agrees on what measures should and shouldn't be taken. Also some of these quotes are isolated one liners with no context as to what question they are responding to. One example..... What question was Faucci answering when he said, "The people who weaponize lies are killing people"? Because no matter where the virus originated from, the answer to that question would not have any impact on how many people were killed by the virus. So his answer doesn't seem to follow the context of the video in that case.

No one is going to read an explanation based on science and fact when the alternative is simply to say "Fauci lied".

On a side note I have the vaccine and seem to get Covid once a year. Granted I have not gotten the vaccine after the initial three shots, but the first time I got it was shortly after getting the vaccine.
