I WAS on the Turner bandwagon early in the year but now, not so much. Save the bucks, draft a RB (if the front office feels the need) and use the big bucks on defense. Oh...and re-sign J-Lew to a 2 year deal with a 3rd year option.

I like Turner ... always have .. but no way is he going to be worth what they tender him for .. I would give up AT MOST a 3rd rnd pick for him .... REGARDLESS of what happens with Lewis ...

hes an entirely different back than Wright and MUCH BETTER as an every down back .. he is very strong and also is fast when he gets going .. not much of a reciever .. there is NO COMPARISION of those two .. like night and day ...

just another example of why STATS ARE FOR LOSERS ... throwing up there #'s and making any type of a comparision is just not even touching the tip of the iceberg ...

most we should give up for him is a 3rd ... AT MOST ...

Isn't Turner an unrestricted free agent?

No need to give up any picks.

I WOULD be hesitant to throw big $$$ at him though. I like the idea of JL, JH, and JW for another year.

We have lots of other, bigger issues.

Well...a guy will miss tidbits like that when he's got everyone - except himself, of course - on his vaunted "ignore" list.

U see I fully understand that even clueless wonders have value sometimes, therefore I put no one on ignore ...

Thanks for the info WSU ... U all ready contributed more than U did in all of 07 ..

I don't dislike Turner...but when we had not a sniff of a good RB (sorry Rueben's 1,000 yard hiccup didn't do it for me) for so long Turner and Marion Barber III looked like superstars.

I love Lewis as our RB - he was a great leader as well as a perfect AFC North RB - I would love to have him here for another 2-3 seasons.

If we go with an NFL player - I hope we go after Taylor of the Vikings. Savage was hot on him and he is very skilled. He would have been the leading NFL rusher this season if it wasn't for the simple fact the Vikes got a stud in AP.

We also should be able to get something decent in the 2nd day of the draft unless we hit paydirt and somehow get a shot at McFadden.

I still maintain that if he gets serious and drops 30 pounds putting him just around 270...I want Javorski Lane (probably a 4th round pick) to learn under Lewis.

Resign Jamal, put money into the D-line, a #2 WR & some LBs... let Turner go to the team most willing to overpay him. JMHO

And I was useful to you without calling you names, putting you down, or somehow determining that you know nothing - or are yourself a clueless wonder - simply because you didn't know that one little thing...see how that works?

Easy...huh?

Now you've seen it applied to you personally...next...you should give it a try.

I'm pretty luke warm on Turner.

Lewis ran very well this year and with the big hogs up front, we don't need to sink a big chuck of FA dollars in to a RB.

Look for a small college guy, I better make sure I whisper this ........ Xavier Omon.

Watched the guy play in I think it was the Division II Championship game with Northwest Missouri State. Think the guy could be a real sleeper in the draft. Maybe a 3rd/4th rounder?

I'm with you Tab. I love the way Chester Taylor rushes. He would be useful for our team, if any RB would be. Jamal Lewis for a couple years would be fine though and we wouldn't need Taylor as we have Wright and Harrison whom are useful as well. Re-Sign Jamal, put money into the defense if anything.

I'd rather spend our money on D-Line and LB. I felt Jones and Pool progressed throughout the season and neither needs to be upgraded. Our CBs show a lot of promise. Now we need D-Lineman and a solid OLB/ILB.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I would be incredibly frustrated with a Michael Turner signing because none of it makes sense to me.

You're signing a guy who will be 26 at the start of next year for what is likely going to be a 5 year deal for a lot of money despite never having seen him as a feature back. Look at how well it worked for the teams who recently signed backups from another team to feature them.

LaMont Jordan got a 5 year $28m deal at age 26. He has spent 3 mediocre years in Oakland and has never been healthy because he can't handle the workload.

Chester Taylor got a 4 year $15m deal at age 26. He was so average during his first year that the Vikings went out and spent a first round pick on Adrian Peterson. Only after they did that and Taylor was allowed to return to his old platoon situation did he blossom.

Can he excel carrying the increased workload? Can he stay healthy during a year where his carry totals jump significantly? Will he be a $5m/year+ player for every year of his contract when RBs typically decline after Year 3 in that deal? All these are questions that come up when signing a guy like Turner, none of which you want to be stuck holding the bag on.

If you want a RB - draft him. IMO, running backs have too short a lifespan to sign to a long-term deal anywhere other than after the draft, especially if you're talking about paying starter's money to an unknown commodity.

Thanks, but no thanks, Turner.

I hope Savage reads your post.

Well stated.

I am also becoming leery of a Turner signing. I just hope Lewis doesn't become complacent with nothing left to prove. (of course, if we sign him)

I say forget about Turner. Sign Jamal for two years. and stick with Wright and Harrison. This group proved to be effective this year, and should only get better. The Oline took a while to get better at run blocking, but it started to come together well at the end of the year. Pumping big bucks into the backfield is a waste IMO.

We have a lot of cap space, and hopefully it will be used on the defense. I really feel the offense should be left alone, except for a true #2 reciever, and investment in Olineman, something that should happen every year. If anything, most should see what a difference a quality Oline means. We have a relatively young line, and investing a pick or two each year could keep us from regressing in this department.

Those who think the only way to improve the defense is to trade DA, forget our cap space. IMO we should give him the high tender. If he stays great, a quality starter or backup for about 2.5 Million. If someone gives up the draft picks, we could bring in a veteran backup on the cheap, and invest our 1st rounder on a quality Dlineman.

I don't think the Browns even TOUCH the RB position...

1) Lewis
2) Wright/ Harrison
3) Harrison/ Wright

I don't throw big bucks at Turner ... not even close ....

I would try and re-sign Lewis but for VERY REASONABLE $$$ .... and if we can't come to terms with him then and only then would Turner hit the radar ..

this position is going to be very interesting to see how it shakes down ... VERY VERY INTERESTING as we know we need one ... and I have no clue what the market will bear when it comes to Lewis and Turner and then of course there will be some "surprises: around the league ..

U guys could be right ... but we have no clue what Lewis is going to ask for .. and my guess is hes going to want 3 years worth of SB ... hes going to want a 3 or 4 year deal .. so he will get it but he will also know he may only have worth for 2 years so hes going to want the SB to be a big one .. he ran hard and looked alot like his old self minus a gear ... but thats still pretty damm good ...

the $$$$ and years is where this is all going to get tricky ...

We've got bigger needs.

The RB market isn't the greatest this year so Turner will be the pick of the crop. Expect a bidding war.

Turner will cost too much for 1, and there is a bumper crop of good running backs coming out this year for the draft. Phil's scouts will be on top of that! JMHO Go Brownies!!!

"Chester Taylor got a 4 year $15m deal at age 26. He was so average during his first year that the Vikings went out and spent a first round pick on Adrian Peterson."

True they went after AP...you take the best player available not need. And RB is a very sharable position. But "So Average" - Wish we had a "So average" RB all those years as he ran for over 1,200 yards. That was an offense with absolutely NO PASSING ATTACK!

Of course you got to evaluate...do we have a Jordan? Or do we have a Priest Holmes. Savage already loves his running and pass catching abilities.

PeteyDangerous... This will probably be Lewis' last contract. He might price himself out of our interest in him. 07 is over...now its 08. $$$ will win over the fever of being a Brown in 07. I expect him to turn down our offer and test the market. Is there another team out there that will offer him more? Will we not wait and go elsewhere like a Turner or Taylor? Also don't forget Fred Taylor - always loved him as a runner and he had a great season.

JMHO
