If he did create the handle. I could care less.
DW has a clear mission. Play winning football.
The Dallas game was the exact opposite.

Nope. Nothing in there says that this was a case that he knew of prior to this and would need to disclose. It's just a simple statement denying the allegation, that's all. I was inferring, Prp!

I love that our QBs have a tendency to come up with pseudonyms
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Considering how long we've been bad and saddled with poor staffs, This one has the most drama hands down. They way they handle players, drama, and injury reporting has just been horrible. Seems like several times a year we are talking about something around that.

I posted a video on facebook of the Browns entering the stadium. I then added: "In my best Bob Uecker voice: This, Browns fans, was one of the highlights of the day."
My uncle replied: They ought to put DW on the U.P. list: Unable to perform." Kind of how I feel.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Considering how long we've been bad and saddled with poor staffs, This one has the most drama hands down. They way they handle players, drama, and injury reporting has just been horrible. Seems like several times a year we are talking about something around that. When it comes to PR and handling the organization’s public image it’s hard to give the Browns any credit whatsoever. A little bit of first with the worst and last with the best. The statement from Rusty Hardin was as good as it gets and totally expected. Denying everything wholeheartedly was the only answer Deshaun Watson could have give under the circumstances. So far as expected. Then we come to Stefanski who in his press conference said that there was no consideration of sitting Watson and that he was not previously aware of the new allegations. "We are 100 percent focused on Jacksonville, 100 percent focused on going on the road against a good football team, trying to find a way to get a W” The word tone deaf comes to my mind. Out of sync with reality. Why mention that “we are 100% focused” bla bla bla? Honestly? If that’s the case then tell us when you’re not “100% focused”? Because to come up with such an obvious statement he just fuel many’s belief that he has no idea what to say or what to do in these situations. His team lost in a horrible way against the Cowboy’s, his play calling was disastrous and his QB had probably one of his worst game ever. Is his main solution then to “focus” and that ‘there was no consideration of sitting Watson” when your quarterback is accused of serious sexual assault and recently had a player rating of 9. Nine Stefanski. Nine! A professional HC who doesn’t seriously evaluate the most important player on his team after such a horrendous game must be stupid or a lier. Once again the Browns tries to put there head in the sand and pretend as nothing had happened instead of take the Bull by the horns and deal with the uncomfortable consequences. They could have easily benched the number 4 against the Jaguars based on his bad performance at home against Dallas and buying themselves some time how to move forward. Yes. It would have fueled outside speculation’s but it would also gained them some respect from women, the neutral's and the national media. Public image Andrew Berry! Have you ever heard of gaining goodwill by reacting to the reality? It’s not illegal to bench bad players. You simply can’t perform that bad without consequences even if you’re coming thru a family tragedy and are mourning and mentally low. If Watson himself or the coaching staff feared that it would affect him to the extend that he couldn’t mentally handle all the pressure, it was after all the first game of the season and on the national TV with Tom Brady as the commentator, then he shouldn’t have been on the field. As soon as he stood in the huddle with his offense line there’s no excuses.

I think if he stinks up the joint in Jacksonville, they have to bench him, maybe by halftime.
Also, the latest allegation is a further distraction for him, to put it mildly. If he hasn’t shown much improvement by the second quarter of the Giants game at home, the fans will be very freaking angry.
At the time I understood - reluctantly - the reasoning behind the trade, but Baker’s numbers with the Bucs, compared to what Watson has served us, is an embarrassment to the fans, Stefanski, the FO and the owners.
Watson better get it together fast.

At this point with DW I would be happy if he played the way Baker did when he was here; a healthy Baker that is.

But he has shown that he CAN be a good NFL quarterback. He’s just not showing that anymore. Hello, DTR!

Nevermind Enjoy your post counting ! I never said Baker was a Super Bowl winner ... and honestly I think Baker is overrated for his career with us. But he's certainly better than Watson. Neither will have brought us anything of consequence.

With Baker we had a guy you wanted to cheer for. A dude that you could feel like actually gets us. A dude that puts on war paint in the locker room and goes out with a take no prisoners approach. In 2020, he looked like he was knocking on the door of 'elite'. 2021 and the injury started a downward spiral that ended with him being a spoiled brat.
We traded that for a dude you could not cheer for, at least not at the outset, and someone who has given you very little to cheer for since. A dude who has always looked complacent. A dude who clearly looks like he was 'satisfied' once the big paycheck hit the bank. A dude whose game has looked like chicken-fried-shizzle in almost every game he's played here.
This goes way past "careful what you wish for"... last year it felt more like wishing for what could have been. Baker behind center last year, or hell, right now, I feel like we'd be having much different conversations.
And having fun having them. Because personally, I've never been this checked-out leading up to a new season. Sunday I was at a party -- barely watched the first half and did not even care to tune in or check the score when I got home. Straight back to the days of watching the first quarter and already knowing the result. Good times.

I agree that Watson is cooked, and this will ultimately go down as one of the worst trades in sports history. This should not be juxtaposed against, "I understand why the Browns made this deal." Results are the only measuring stick in the NFL. Nothing else matters. You either win or you do not. With that being said, I do not think Baker would have ever worked out here. This sums it up nicely, imo. Logan Roy (Succession on HBO) words are applicable to the Browns franchise. ***NSFW*** Logan Roy

Think the last two posts are 100% spot on. Not everyone was fully on board with Baker because he rubbed some the wrong way with his attitude on the field. And not everyone was reluctant to cheer for Watson - he had some fanboys here and elsewhere who all thought we were getting a top 5 QB and didn't care about anything else. But broadly Baker was easy to root for and identified with the city - Watson not so much.
And the tweet from Milk's post - "It couldn't have happened here" - also agree with. I mean maybe there is a path in some bizarre world, but I think taking his lumps, eating a little humble pie, bouncing to a 4th team ... all helped make him better. And lets not get too far ahead of ourselves on judging how good 2024 Baker is - he's played one game. If he's close to that performance week in and week out then we can maybe have more confidence that he's truly turned a corner. Although yeah, regardless if we see some of the inconsistencies from him we've seen before - I'd take him in a heart beat over DW and what we've seen since he joined the team.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Let me know when we are going to discuss the real problem.
Watson can not read a defense. He missed so many wide open receivers last week it wasn't funny. Some he never saw, and other he was way off with his throws. That has been his M.O. since he came here.
Unless or until He can read a defense and get rid of the damn ball none of this other mess matters.
I AM ALWAYS RIGHT... except when I am wrong.

I agree GM. He can't read anything beyond one read ... then he bolts or clutches the ball. It's been apparent for 3 years here

Just a quick question for an off-the-top-of-your-head answer. How many times did he unload the ball and avoid a pressure sack? Seems he took a lot of sacks and held it too long regularly. Admittedly, he had pressure, but he clenched; he had enough time to do stuff other than freeze and be sacked

Football can be strange.
Look around the NFL. Browns, Steelers, Giants, Patriots, Raiders, Broncos, Vikings, Falcons, Bears, Saints, Panthers, Cardinals.
Look how these organizations are all struggling to find an answer at quarterback. All of what has gone on to get to where they currently are.
Draft picks, contracts torn up, money spent, futures clouded.
The Niners take Brock Purdy after nobody would draft him. And he balls out. I mean in a big way carving defenses up.
Brock Purdy signed a 4 year, $3,737,008 contract.
DW and some of the others are making ten times more. And are delivering ten times less on the field in performance.

It’s a crapshoot Bone just like going to the casino or betting on races. I do agree that this is starting to feel like one of those 5 win lost seasons. Sad because we have too much talent to waste on a season like that.

Agree 100%. And yes, that was the only path for Baker.
I'm not wishing Baker was here. I'm mostly talking talent-specific, having someone crafted from that mold and cut from that cloth. I should have been more clear.
And I say this to address mgh as well. I'm not looking at the box score from last week to make a judgement. Baker became Game Manager+ last year. We watch Watson and spend half the game screaming "what the #^$% are you doing??". You watch Baker make a critical mistake and all you can do is shake your head -- because it's part of his DNA. You know what it is and it's part of the territory. Same as Joe Flacco, so much so that I was surprised nobody made the comparison last year.
Nobody cares about an INT when you're up by 17. Nobody even cares when it's close... they see his demeanor, they watch him smack himself in the head on the way back to the bench, they see the emotion -- most of us actually sympathize. ALL of us know he'll go back out with a vengeance. Instead we have a guy that would have the same look plastered on his face if he just threw his third pick-6. Disinterest.
It's hard to stomach right now.

I wanted Baker to make it in Cleveland. It didn't work out.
I understand the Browns as an organization making the move to get DW. I do not fault them.
But here we are. Set aside the off field stuff. I expected DW to be really good on the field.
Right now he looks like he does not belong in the NFL. That is something that I don't think anyone saw coming.
I am at that point where I am hoping he gets suspended and the Browns can get out of paying him.
I hate feeling that way. The thought of quarterback shopping is disgusting. Even if Winston or DTR won games. Unless that solution went bonkers and one of them became a real solution. It would mean getting in line at the draft for the next Great question mark.
I don't have the seasons to wait. I have been waiting since Bernie.
It is hard to imagine DW right now becoming a great quarterback in Cleveland.
2024 is a week old. This makes me sick. I wanted to enjoy this season.

When teams have to respect your ability to pound the ball down their throats, QBs look a lot better. Even more when the guy running inside has shown the ability to take a dive to the house. SF led the league in EPA/rush last season. Shanahan's scheme is good. CMC is a top talent. Losing Chubb really hurt and still does. Hopefully we find a way to run inside effectively. As solid as Jones was last season, run blocking was not his strength. By the numbers, running into a loaded box isn't the analytics way. But, when guys are dropping out and you've got undersized guys in the A gaps, maybe it is. Unfortunately, Shotgun isn't especially conducive to A gaps runs generally. Muddying the read makes things hard for the QB. When the D is running disguised coverages from unusual formations, it takes time to decipher. Our OL didn't provide a ton of time. Unfortunately, it looked like we were just trying to get ready in general, while they were actively preparing their starters for us. Or at least they predicted what we were going to do a lot better than we did them.

Exactly what I meant by time. I live in New England Boston sports territory. Some people were born became Red Sox fans and never saw them win a World Series. I don’t like the Red Sox at all but I did feel sorry for those fans. The same thing might be happening to us Browns fans.

One question I have. Some posters are saying DW can’t read D’s. I’m not debating that but why was he successful in Houston those couple of years. He had to be doing something right. It showed he’s capable. That’s no doubt what made us trade for him. Could he have just lost it overnight? I remember Rick Ankiel a pitcher for my Cardinals who all of a sudden couldn’t throw a strike and some fielders who couldn’t throw to first base anymore. Maybe it’s not the same thing but I did think of it.

I’m adopting the 9ers this year to make the season more tolerable.
Not giving up on the Browns but will have a rooting interest for both.

I do remember Jake Delhomme seemed to have lost it quickly after we acquired him.
