Maybe this says more about me than anything, but listening to the Cleveland mayor throw that hissy fit after the announcement is probably the most satisfaction this org has given me in a long long time. I do understand that this current mayor put in more effort than many before him to get the downtown stadium pitch over the finish line... but knowing how ridiculously drawn out this process has been over however many years makes the outrage so funny to me.

That said, I'm also cheering against Haslam. Dude is acting like he's got all this goodwill he can leverage. I'm cheering so hard for his season ticket and PSL sales to crater.

If the tax-payers of Cleveland agree to give one red nickel to this owner and organization then you're crazy. Worse than a drug or gambling addict, just continually going back, hoping maybe one day it won't completely let you down.

This might be the worst run professional franchise in all of sports - and they want money for a new dome? Suckers.

I agree.

Not that I hadn't already made the decision to give up my season tickets. But this just made the decision even easier.

A crap team with a crappy overpriced dome, makes for even more over priced tickets.

This is great news.. everyone whining don't understand what this will mean for the area.. They aren't just building a stadium, they are going to build a complex to bring revenue and jobs to the area year round.. Would be surprised to see the cavs build something out there as well. We will now have the ability to host a superbowl(though we won't play in one lol) but besides it being haslam, this is all around great for the area. Cleveland is a s-hole, this will bring the ability to lure some upscale events etc to the area

I am really curious what this will do for ticket demand. I don't live in the area anymore (and haven't for a while) so apathy for me looks different than it does with people in Cleveland.

The inevitable has arrived.

I feel for Bibb. He made an honest effort to explore all solutions. I think he and the Haslams looked at all the possibilities, but none were viable options. There just wasn't a tract of land suitable for a project of this scale.

Kazy on the other hand sounds like a total buffoon. It's talk and an attitude like his that resulted in the team moving 25-30 years ago. While it is a set-back for the city of Cleveland, it will be a big win for Greater Cleveland.

Now the city has a great opportunity with lakefront property development. It will be interesting to see what happens with that. Will it be developed or be jammed up in council chambers for the next 20 years?

The Cavs have already announced plans and broke ground on a state of the art facility in Cleveland on the river. It's part of a $3.5B development project.

Also, if you think Cleveland is a dump than you've never been to Brook Park. Absolutely, nobody from the affluent suburbs has any interest in going to Brook Park.

On a related note, current STM will now have to have pay exorbitant PSL fees, the muni lot is dead, the Pit tailgating is dead and $35 city lot parking is dead.

But hey, we'll get that one Super Bowl. I'll never forget how Detroit getting that Super Bowl completely turned that city around!

Funny, I say the same thing.

I may have to keep these season tickets. Even though I knew the announcement was going to happen, it now a reality has me sitting here this morning thinking I may just keep them.

Remember the Muni Lot was dead either way. It was going away even if they stayed as part of the redevelopment.

At least for me, the Muni is better off in the memory rather than a place I actually want to go. I suppose it is age related, but tailgating doesn't hold the allure that it once did. When I go to the lot's I no doubt enjoy seeing old friends but after about 45 minutes I find myself planning my exit strategy. I'd rather just grab a seat in the club overlooking the lake and talk with my wife.

not the best timing to announce it officially, but we all knew it was coming

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I don't know one single person I speak with on a regular basis, (Browns fans) who wanted the team to stay by the lake, in a semi-rebuild, delapidated and deteriorated stadium with no roof. Maybe it's just a function of getting older, and knowing older people, but getting into Cleveland is hard, finding parking can be hard, and sitting in the upper deck of the current stadium, even on a modestly cold day, especially at night, can be miserable.

As far as tailgating, I am quite sure that there will be an area set up for tailgating. It is too big a part of football for there not to be.

I’ve been a Browns fan for 57 years never been to Cleveland, although I would like to visit someday soon, and don’t know one area from another. However, no matter what situation my beloved Browns are in at this time, the franchise has to move forward and look to the future. The current stadium is not the future and a domed stadium would be a step forward and also open the possibility’s for venues that are not currently possible like a Super Bowl. Regardless of personal opinions everyone should get behind Jimmy Haslam and make this new stadium a reality. Eventually the mess we’re in now will pass and maybe just maybe things will be put on the right course. JMO

You just gave the perfect example why you don't invest that kind of money in downtown like Detroit did.

It really shouldn't.

This stadium was thrown together in a rushed manner, without any special planning for where it is situated. It started deteriorating 10 years ago, when it needed "emergency repairs". It was only 15 years old at the time.

You are assuming the area will continue to be strip clubs, pawn shops, tattoo parlors, and crappy dive bars. In time they will get taxed out of business to be replaced with better business establishments. There are going to be 2 key points that will drive the attraction of customers.

1. What sort of entertainment generators they bring to the area.

2. Having a sound security force in place. No doubt there are seedy establishments in the surrounding area that cater to seedy people. You have to insulated against that.

That's because they invested all that money downtown. Their dome is downtown. Halsam isn't making that mistake. He is turning an underdeveloped area in to thriving new community. There will be games there, concerts there along with shopping, hotels and amenities there.

It won't be an isolated dome in the middle of a decaying city. Hopefully that helps clear things up.

What Jimmy Haslam is doing is a prudent move with an eye toward the future. Regardless the opinion of others on this board I feel Jimmy Haslam is a smart businessman and an owner who really wants to bring a winner to Cleveland. He had to have the final say on the DW deal. He took a high-risk big reward gamble that didn't work out. The morals part of it is another matter but strictly from a talent and business aspect it was a good gamble. When DW was in Houston he was considered one of the top 6 QBs in the league. Who could have seen this coming? JMO

The only place we disagree is the morals part of your post. When you decide to give up 3 first round draft picks and a huge guaranteed contract you are buying the entire package. You can't parcel out the parts of the package you want and ignore the parts of the package you don't. Watson was signed with all the baggage attached and nothing can change that. If that wasn't part of the process when signing him that was a huge error on their part. A lot of people saw this coming.

Pit I should have clarified what I meant. To me the morals part of it is important. I didn't want to see this trade made because of it. I'm saying strictly from a talent aspect I can understand why it was made. If I had the last say in it the trade wouldn't have been consummated taking everything into consideration. Remember Al Davis and the Raiders " just win baby" and they had some players with some questionable character? Didn't agree with that either.

The fact he refused to play in Houston for his entire last season there was another huge red flag. You will never arrive at the destination you wish to get to if you refuse to read the signs. Even the GPS was giving an alternative route.

I think people in our organization were so adamant about dumping Baker that it clouded their judgement. If they consulted with a reputable person outside the organization, they would have got a different opinion on the situation.

I don't have any idea as to what all went on behind the scenes. So it's hard for me to know all of the ingredients that went into making that decision.

He's already announced he will be relocating in Brook Park. At this point the people and media in Cleveland are upset about that and are just throwing feces against the wall to see what will stick.
