I don't believe this was posted, but yikes....

Jed Wills "Business Decision"

Also, if someone has a link that has more info than MKC's TMZ-headline style article, that may help.

He can't leave town soon enough

Not a surprise at all.

Players know the tape is going to show up. That is why it is surprising that a player like Wills has gotten so many chances.

It is one thing to get beat. That is bound to happen when you play so many snaps. It is another when lack of effort is so clear.

When you are a first round selection. You have to bomb to get benched because that is a big investment.

I don't want to watch Wills play again.

To be fair, he didn’t say he was a healthy self-scratch. Guys make decisions about playing and their own subjective injury status all the time. He’s hardly alone on any team as far as that goes. But it’s definitely a poor choice of words and makes it appear he isn’t mentally tough and willing to play through stuff the way other guys are. You need a tough SOB at LT and he’s not that.

I remember back maybe a year or more when KS said Jed was learning how to play with pain.

The difference between pain and injury is in most cases the difference between playing and not playing.

It is almost impossible to play football without dealing with pain. It is a violent game and nobody escapes.

It is a personal decision. Wills who at his best struggles with consistency. I got to a point when I would watch him that I knew he would give up on a play.

He has made his money. It might be best to just give football up and go do something else. I don't think his heart is in football. That is ok. You pay a price playing football and the bill comes due as you age.

His business decision might be right for him.

I agree with you. The article is low on usable info and could just be more muckraking like MKC likes to do... but it does fit a narrative that's been building around Wills for a while now.

I'm not quite as down on the guy as some on here. I'd like to see the LT spot get locked down and him battle with Conklin and maybe even DJones for RT.

I hope they make a Business decision and De-Activate him for the rest of the year. Dont know if his $$ is guaranteed but not active on gameday usually means a different paycheck. A Berry needs to start his homework on Oline coach/Scheme and what KS really wants to do. We need Oline man real bad. This is the worst Oline we have trotted out for a long time. Dont know if Joe T has any input But they might inquire.

Wills would get the same pay next week as he did last week. You might be thinking of PS players getting promoted to the roster for game days.

You are 100% correct. If possible I would be fine with sending him. It is a business decision. For a guy to not play as much as he has and when he has played it has been very poor with mental errors and holding calls. For Andrew Berry it should be lesson learned, if you want a Left tackle, You better draft a real one and not a project. Winning franchises don't blow 1st RD draft picks and then trade away 3.

I always thought he played well for us last year as a depth piece and wasn't sure why we didn't bring him back.

You think this week? This soon after he was signed in a short week? I would think they would want him to get another full week of practice under his belt first at least. But then you never know.

I seem to remember players had to be on roster 3 days prior to playing for a new team, though that might have been just during the covids time.

Slide Bitonio over to LT in a pinch. I'll be surprised if Wills is active this game. Possibly moving forward.

I'd never play Wills again honestly

Tugging on that thread a little bit...

The story on Wills during that draft was that he was a RT that could potentially slide over since he blocked for a lefty. I don't remember hearing ANYTHING regarding potential want-to issues. I don't think this was Justin Gilbert 2.0

Jedrick Wills scored 9 on his first attempt at the Wonderlic, which teams traditionally have regarded as the most telling score, but he scored 23 on his second try, according to the story. Here are the list of the offensive lineman’s wonderlic scores listed.

link

The Browns draft team was aware of Wills wonderlic test score before they drafted him over Tristan Wirfs..who needed one attempt to score a 23 on the wonderlic test.

Drafting Wills over Wirfs was a "HUGE BLUNDER" for the Browns franchise and it was an indication of Andrew Berry's ability to judge OLINE talent. Let us not forget Berry's attitude for judging OLINE talent.

...remember, "TACKLES ARE TACKLES"...?

I'd rather play at 1 on Sunday anyways - TNF on the road sucks

Yeah, but you're losing national exposure. It's a kick in the nuts for the players.

You know the decision was made before last night's game. I wonder if they regret it after last night's game. Let's hope so!

Given the performance of Winston and how the offense looks with him.

I don't see how we go back to DW. I can't see it.

The receivers are open. 497 yards passing with 4 touchdowns. I know pic sixes.

That is not the point. DW looked inept by comparison. He was horrible when he played compared to Winston.

Imagine DW now. What will happen in camp next year? Quarterback competition?

They may call it a quarterback competition but DW will not be the starter. Outside of DTR at this point we don't even know who will be in camp.

One thing is certain DW will not be in camp with the label as "the starter."

With JW as It stands now, I feel we can move the ball on anyone. Give JW another good WR, a better LT and an improved running game and he will be even better. Of course, I do acknowledge the INT's but what choice do we have right now. The medicine may taste a little bad, but the end result is better health for the O so to speak.

Nate Zegura works for the Browns.

He knows what he said will be looked at by the Browns.

There has to be word inside Berea that DW is toast.

He would have never made a statement like that.

If I may suggest try their bacon flavor. It doesn't taste quite like bacon but it goes great with eggs.

I agree 100%. My issue is that the 'powers-that-be' had to know that way back in OTAs...the players as well. What they did was inexcusable and worthy of being fired for it. Whose bacon were they trying to save? Jimmy's? Calling the difference in play and effectiveness like 'night-and-day' is a gross understatement.

SKi kept saying DW 'gives us the best chance to win'. If he meant that, he should be fired immediately. If he didn't mean that, why did he continue to do/say that?

Every time I try and cut these guys some slack, that ^ pops into my head immediately.

The Company line was dictated.

DW is the starter. He will be given every chance to prove himself. There are 230 million reasons.

That was handed down for Halsam to Berry to KS. DW is to play.

He had to fail completely. He would probably still be playing.

Now that Winston played. The hand writing is on the wall that DW is no longer the starter.
