Topline Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday afternoon to share his excitement about President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Health and Human Services department—stunning many of his followers given that RFK Jr. is seen as one of the most controversial picks so far in the incoming administration and marking a departure from the governor’s past criticism of Kennedy.

Polis said in a post on X he was “excited by the news” of Kennedy’s pick and hopes “he leans into personal choice on vaccines rather than bans” and takes “on big pharma and the corporate ag oligopoly to improve our health.”

Polis seemed aware his support would draw backlash—which it did almost immediately as X users replied asking if he was hacked and calling on him to delete the post—and shared a number of quotes from Kennedy that he said show why he’s excited about the pick, including one about leveling the playing field for drug costs.

About an hour after his initial post, Polis made a follow up tweet in which he clarified that while he supports Kennedy and a “major shake-up in institutions” like the Food and Drug Administration, “science must remain THE cornerstone of our nation’s health policy.”

Polis also clarified in the follow up that he and his family are vaccinated and he “will hold any HHS Secretary to the same high standard of protecting and improving public health.”

Kennedy responded to the initial post thanking Polis for his support and said, “I look forward to working with you.”


Chief Critics
Other Democrats were quick to criticize Kenendy’s selection. Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., said on X he thought picking Kennedy was “f***ing insane,” adding: “He will destroy our public health infrastructure and our vaccine distribution systems.” Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., said on X that Kennedy’s selection “could not be more dangerous,” noting he will be dealing with “life or death issues” and “there's no telling how far an anti-vaxxer & fringe conspiracy theorist like RFK Jr. could set America back in terms of public health, reproductive rights, research, & more.” Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said Kennedy’s “outlandish views on basic scientific facts are disturbing and should worry all parents who expect schools and other public spaces to be safe for their children,” NBC News reported.

Polis had been critical of Kennedy’s beliefs in the past. Kennedy is well-known for his controversial views that include fringe conspiracy theories, like alleging that COVID-19 targets certain races, mass shootings are linked to prescription drugs and vaccines can cause autism. In August, after Kennedy joined Trump’s campaign team and said he wanted to “make America healthy again,” Polis responded to a video of Kennedy on Fox News saying, “Not sure how bringing back Measles and bringing back Polio makes anyone more healthy…” Despite Polis’ past criticism of Kennedy, the governor said in his Thursday post the pair agreed that vaccines should not be mandated and worked together in 2019 to block a Colorado vaccine mandate.

“If as a country we follow the science we would also be far more concerned about the impact of pesticides on public health, ag policy on nutrition, and the lack of access to prescription drugs due to drug high prices,” Polis said in his tweet defending his support of Kennedy.

One day before Polis praised Trump’s selection of Kennedy, he teamed up with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker founded Governors Safeguarding Democracy, a group created to “fortify democratic institutions.” Polis said that the rollback of “any threats to our democracy that come from any president or from foreign powers” are a focus for the group, Axios reported.

Kennedy is such an inspired choice. The dude is incredible and so glad he's in the administration. He wants to make America healthy again and bring attention to chemicals in food. A lot of stuff in the US food supply is outlawed in Europe and he wants to fix this in our country. What's not to like? Don't you want healthier food? Don't you care???? Vaccines do not cause autism. Vaccines aren’t killing people a couple hours after they are taken. American Samoa listened to him and vaccination rates dropped significantly. Measles then killed, iirc, 83 people including kids.

You are spending far more time keeping up with my post count than I am. But I welcome you as a fan. For a poster who spends so much time defending trump I didn't believe a further explanation was needed.

Like most things, they really wouldn't be terrible in moderation, but the problem is that the average American diet does absolutely nothing in moderation and the food product manufacturing industry exacerbates that.

Omega-6s and the resulting inflammation is a very real issue that affects a large percentage of the population. If you eliminated the inflammation being caused in the American populace as a result of processed foods, drugs like Ozempic and the others we're inundated with commercials for would likely be relegated to being entirely unnecessary. I would even wager that entire categories of chronic illnesses would decline dramatically or disappear altogether.
Processed foods and America's addiction to sugar are a greater health threat than anything else in this country.

To me, there are priorities. Yeah seed oils may be bad, but kind of like you hinted at the end there, things like easy carbs and the age old energy in vs energy expended in Americans are a much higher priority.

It's not even that... if I thought he was even remotely interested in addressing the issue of the American diet, I could probably get behind him (even including the nonsense). Mark my words, he's going to try to address our food industry cutting corners by deregulation... which would make no sense.

Food industry gets away with putting all that crap in our food because they are allowed to. The standards to which the US holds them is significantly lower than Canada, Europe. Raising standards via regulations on a large industry is NOT something I see a Trump admin doing.

Obesity, heart disease, diabetes, many chronic pain issues, ADHD and other childhood conditions where medicine fails, etc. All conditions where diet changes provide relief or at least slows the progress. I had to learn most of that the hard way, which makes me as close to being an expert witness as the outhouse has ever seen.
