Mayfield got "healthy" after he left here. His last season as a Brown he played injured most of the year. That was in 2021. In 2020 when he was healthy he threw for 3563 yards, 26 td's with 8 int's with a QBR of 95.9. The Browns were 11-5 in 2020 and made the playoffs. How much has he "improved" since then?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I do think he got slightly more out of Brissett than anyone was expecting. If what we saw was the average from Flacco, then he shouldn't have been waiting by the phone for us to call.
Also, if that offense is such a cheat code, then everyone w/o a FQB would be running it. I do agree with you that the shine has worn off on KS being some kind of miracle worker... but he's done his best work and way overachieved when he's had limited QB talent. Brissett did have Chubb, but Flacco didn't. I never said it was a cheat code, just its a QB friendly offense, and no flacco didn't have chubb, but we still had a decent running game because the oline had callahan. This scrub dickerson took the same oline and turned it into the worst in the NFL, plus Flacco was Old but was a former superbowl mvp. While he was good for a few games, the reason he was waiting on the couch showed in the playoffs, he was careless with the ball. I'm just saying whether or not KS is the long term answer, he's is def. not a QB guru, his offense has never been great. Highest I think its ever been ranked was 14th, so hes not some offensive guru despite having a healthy Baker, a top 5 RB and a top 5 Oline for most of his tenure.
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. -John Wayne

When did he have a great QB to make an offense look great? All you can do is judge him by the players he has to work with. And try as you will to deny it, he got the most out of some mediocre QB's.

I do agree with you that he's not some QB guru.
I do think the issue is that he needs the right QB for the offense to hum. Not necessarily the most talented QB, but just one that can throw accurately and on time and isn't severely limited by arm strength. We've gotten close to finding that guy just by going to 2nd tier FA, so I guess I'm more hopeful because of that.
That said, if Chubb doesn't return to form and/or the Oline doesn't recover after some talent infusion, then we're really screwed.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I don't think the Browns will be in a good enough position to draft the top quarterbacks in this or the next draft.
Berry and Stefanski must take a page from Philly's and Green Bay's draft book to get a quarterback.
In this draft, they must focus more on the defensive and offensive lines. This will make it easier for any young quarterback from either the draft or free agent.

You make excellent points Cousins free of full of stuffing influence got into the top 5 QBs Mayfield right now is playing on the same level as Mahomes and Brady. Mayfield has also won a playoff game with without full of stuffing Full of stuffing has not won 1playoff game without Mayfield furthermore Mayfield has his 1 Team 1game out of playoffs Another point full of stuffing has never coached as either a head coach or a assistant Coach a qb to the same level as Mahomes or Brady. Just the fact I can make that argument shows how much they have developed sense they left full of stuffing influence.

Trade or cut Chubb, bring in the jugs machine at QB and an teen madden operator with a wireless controller AND PASS EVERY DOWNZ!
In our predicament, we need to keep the QB spend low. Try out some retreads, keep Winston, cut DTR, draft one or two prospects any round this year if you see a developmental guy, go into next season with two vets, two rookies and make your run. The rookies should be PS stashable early season, same with a retread if allowed. I think that is best case scenario this next offseason.

Those who want to live in denial can do so but the numbers don't lie. The result of an incompetent leadership.

You can say incompetent personnel decisions. That I can understand. They have not lost the team, though. I don't think leadership is the problem.

In 2020, his last healthy season with Cleveland he had 486 pass attempts. In 2023 in Tampa Bay he had 566. Tampa Bay doesn't have a Nick Chubb. That is the difference in total passing yards for the season. His actual completion percentages were almost the same. In Cleveland 2020 his completion percentage was 62.8% in 2023 in Tampa bay it was 64.3%.
When you pass 80 more times in a season you should have more passing yards.

The Baker pick set this franchise back 10 years. Could have had Josh Allen. Instead, we are watching the Bills in the playoffs. Berry tried to fix the mistake a QB with Watson and it did not work out.

Yeah, making the playoffs his last healthy year in Cleveland was such a setback.

Baker is long gone.
Watson is on the roster and will remain because there is not much else that the Browns can do with him. Most likely the Browns will add competition.
Winston is a free agent after this year and DTR is on the roster. DTR will remain and be given a chance to compete as a starter.
If Winston is brought back. It will be as a quarterback to compete as a starter. There is a chance that if Winston plays great the remainder of this season that he could be considered next year's starter.
I would guess that the Browns will draft a quarterback. Sam Darnold is a free agent. He might be a consideration as a free agent.
The draft will be approached the same as in the past. Meaning search for value picks through BPA.
I do not see KS leaving. Berry more than likely remains. However, there is a possibility he could be removed. If not there will be staff changes.
The Browns are back to that place that they seem unable to get out of. The search for a franchise quarterback.
Looking ahead to Spring and next year's Training Camp. There will be a quarterback competition which means you don't have a quarterback.

Berry tried to fix the mistake a QB with Watson and it did not work out. If anything set us back, it was the Watson trade. Also, keep in mind we had Hue Jackson when we drafted Baker. Allen took some time to get going. I have no doubt in my mind that Allen would have failed here in that tenure, with all the instability in coaching we had from 2018-2020.

Denver is still in cap hell, though it won't be quite as bad next year. And we've only had one 1st round pick in the last three years. We were lucky it came up in a class that was deep with QBs. It's taken us the better part of a decade to find the franchise guy.

He will demand a similar contract as Baker. Minimum 3 year $30M/season contract. Why shouldn’t he? Current leadership has totally destroyed this organization and I have zero interest in supporting failure. Zero. As long as Berry and DePodesta are on the Browns payroll I will criticize them until I die. Idi*ts.

Criticize all you wish.
Waste of time because it changes nothing.
Darnold could be an answer. I don't care about the money if he can play.
I want to find solutions that fit what we have to work with not pipe dreams of change that will not happen.
After the season there is free agency and then the draft. Like most teams close to a third of the roster changes.
If the record is going to improve. We have to find talent where we can.

If drafting Baker set this franchise back 10 years, signing dw to a guaranteed contract like he got, with all the time he missed, set this franchise back multiple decades. One was suspended, stunk when he played, got hurt multiple times, and ..........well, stinks as a qb as we can see what an average to below average qb has done in his place. The other has/is taking his team to the playoffs. Yours was one of the dumbest posts I've read in quite a while.

I think everyone is aware of the history of how we got here.
Darnold will go where he has a chance to start and agrees to the money his agents negotiate.
Prior to this year he signed backup money.
I am not a cap manager nor GM. Darnold will get what a team is willing to pay.
Fair market value will set the amount.
When we drafted Baker. My first choice was Darnold then Allen. I thought Darnold would be a good player.
When guys like Darnold come into the league very young with little experience. It is so important to go to a team that will help a prospect learn.
Darnold told Adtiti that Shanahan taught him a way to read a defense that he had never been taught last season when he was with SF.
I could see Darnold becoming a late bloomer. He is only 27.

I think Darnold stays in Minnesota unless he gets bowled over with a huge offer. He and the team are familiar with each other, Vikes seem to always be in the mix and why would Sam want to go to a new, unfamiliar situation?

As you say the market sets the price. Andrew Berry set the bar when he paid Watson. Stupid is as stupid does, as Forrest says. Darnold will not be short of options after a season like this so we can stop dreaming.

You are telling me agents are going to advise players not to come here? Cleveland has given out the most money in the league. That’s one of the top reasons a player chooses a team. Only sticking with this situation, if Darnold doesn't want to come here....fine go after another player. We aren't the only team that has been told no by a free agent.

Actually, your post is the dumbest I have read, I said taking Baker over Josh Allen set this franchise back 10 years. Watson was an attempt to right that wrong. It did not work out. But this FO was stuck with Baker and new they could not win with him and was desperate. They saw Burrow and the Bengals passing them while they were attempting to pass the Steelers and Ravens. They were desperate and made a bad choice. At least we are not stuck with Baker. That was a good move.

But, genius, we ARE stuck with a lot higher cost at qb, and that higher cost has gotten us nothing. Hell, a 1 year rental qb, last year AND this year have out performed the $230,000,000.00 man. Period.
And Baker is balling.
Drafting Baker didn't set this franchise back, at all. Going after dw, paying what we did, and tossing in 3 draft picks, however, did set this franchise back many, many years. Period. Then end.

That’s why the Browns have to pay premium to get mediocre players and $230m guaranteed to get Watson. Maybe you see a pattern here. Too much, often bad timing and mostly it ends up as a disappointment. Attractive organizations rarely have to overpay to get the player they searching for, does the coin drop down now?

Wow, yea, I’m stoked we’re not “stuck” with a QB who’s rocking 24TDs vs 9 Int’s and five games over 300yds in 11 games total. The guy that wanted to be here, who’s teammates loved him and was at the helm when we had our only playoff victory in like 291 years. Think about how hosed we’d be this year, or last year for that matter when they beat the Eagles in the playoffs, if we had that guy. sheesh, I’m glad we recognized that we needed to “right the wrong” of missing on Josh Allen by running that clown outta town.

I don't know about "top money" being the biggest reason. I agree that it works that way for players who want to make a quick money grab and that is their only interest at the time. You know, players that don't really care about the sport or their future in the sport. Let's just call that "The Tale of the 230 million dollar man".
There are many factors for players. Darnold being 27 he has factors greater than a short term deal or a quick paycheck to consider. Would this FO be willing to make a long term commitment to him as the starter with a high dollar, long term contract? With the financial burden of watson on their hands I don't see how they could do that. Would Darnold take a short term deal even if the money was good? I'm pretty sure he will get offers on a long term deal so that doesn't make sense for him.
The position this FO has left themselves in, and us as well by default, is that all they can afford to do is one of two things. The same thing they've done over the past two years which is to sign a second tier QB no other team in the NFL values as a starter, or draft a QB which gives you four years on a cheap rookie contract with the option of a fifth year. Possibly both.
What they can't do in this position is get in a bidding war with other teams over what is considered a top tier FA QB. They are already too far in debt for doing that the last time. At some point that reality needs to sink in for everyone.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Look if all you wish to do is be critical why bother?
"We suck, we will always suck, Haslam sucks, Berry, Depodesta, Stefanski all suck."
The guy who washes the clothes sucks laundry soap. Why come to Cleveland? We have to pay more than any team because we suck.
What solutions do you have?
How do the Browns build from here?
Who should we draft? What quarterbacks should we have interest in?
You see I am sick of all the BS whining. Go to an echo chamber and keep bitching so you can hear yourself whine.
I want to find ways to win. I love the Browns.
If you don't why bother watching really? Become a fan of the team who wins the Super Bowl each year then you can say my team is a winner. If the team does nothing and you dislike the organization. Don't watch them.
Absolutely nothing personal. I can understand frustration and not winning can get old.
Browns fans are with them through thick and thin. That is why the stadium was full Thursday in the snow. They support their team.

The rest of what you said, sure they could afford him. However, I would be surprised if they put that kind of money into him. They can get a cheaper option that can put up similar stats.

That isn’t remotely true and is contradicting.
Hmmm... Cleveland paying top dollar. Do you have any idea why?Yes, the sentence after the one you highlighted explains it. Exactly. That is not true. Name me all these players we had to pay a premium to get the past few years.

So somehow you think they could "afford" a long term FA contract to Darnold while still paying off the vast majority of watson's contract they have kicked down the road?
So far in 2024 Darnold has put up these stats after 11 of 16 games.....
2717 passing yards. 67.6% completion rate. 21td's and 10int's.
Who is this "cheaper option" you claim can do that? No such NFL QB's exist or we wouldn't be watching Winston starting right now and Flacco wouldn't be a backup NFL QB.

More text. And some more… Good question Bone! Get rid of DePodesta no matter what. Find a new GM who knows how to build a competitive team, create some sort of healthy team culture and someone who doesn’t throw around money like confetti.
Release Watson in one way or another. His pure presence creates bad vibes. Trade away some of the older players and get some additional draft picks.
Let Winston continue another season and reward his positive attitude. Give Stefanski another season. If he can’t win more than 6-7 games in 2025 then search for a new HC.
Do something! Right now this leadership is synonymous with a failure. Nothing will change until some of them are gone.

Depo and AB are probably not going anywhere.
Honestly, IMO Depo is a part time employee who really does not have decision power.
Berry on the other does.
Berry probably remains. If they replace him then that person has to be an improvement.
I don't know who is a candidate right now.
No hurry to sign Winston. Play the remaining schedule. Take it from there.
I want to improve the chances in the draft. I know as each round ends; the odds go down as far as finding players. Later rounds players face long odds.
I feel the scouting and review of prospects can improve. I think NFL teams should try to think outside the box. Think of better ways to define and grade players based upon the data of success and failure. This is an area where Depo may find some statistical analysis that could be beneficial.
There are physical parameters for each position. Bill Parcells had quarterback requirements that included college snaps played.
I think there has to be ways to determine what traits make successful players. Or, there has to be red flags as well that spell future failure.
I believe that each position player in the draft should have "position experts" study their film.
That could include former players, coaches, scouts, and coordinators.
All that I have outlined could fit under scouting. However, there needs to be a process in place that refines how prospects are evaluated.
This is not just a Browns problem. When you look around the league and see how many first round picks fail it is astonishing.

Who is this "cheaper option" you claim can do that? No such NFL QB's exist or we wouldn't be watching Winston starting right now and Flacco wouldn't be a backup NFL QB. Yes they could afford him. HOWEVER, as i said above "I would be surprised if they put that kind of money into him." Let me be even clearer....if Darnold wants 30+ a year, then it would be dumb for the Browns to pay that price. 1. He's only had one good season. 2. A big portion of that money needs to be spent in other positions of the team. 3. Darnold put up those stats after 11 of 17 games (I'm messing with you) I can't predict the future, so I can't name who will be available, what draft picks, etc. There are a lot of games to be played, situations to happen (injuries, etc). Winston = 1,266 yds, 62.2% 7tds and 4 ints through 4 starting games, 1 half game (Bengals), and one thrown pass in the Wash game. That is one example of a cheaper option, that can "bridge" a team. My original post had nothing to do with this, it had to do with bs idea that agents won't tell players to come here. The one thing the Browns have done well is compensated their players and a few of them they extended showning faith in believing they will grow as a player (Juedy is an example).
